Introduced at the end of Skye's Wonkenstein (2011), Potterwookiee is another weird combination of fictional characters: a small-scale mix of Chewbacca and Harry Potter. He has got Harry's glasses, scarf, and scraps of his clothing, but in Skye's kidlike illustrations, "Hairy" looks pretty much like a Wookiee. His magic spells don't start working until the end of the book, when middle-school narrator Rob Burnside needs help with an audition for a reality TV show called Average Chef.
Obert Skye read his first book at age two. He wrote his first story at age four. And he was nearly trampled by a herd of water buffalo at age six. For a short time, he lived on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where he spent time as a candy-taster. Several years ago, Obert Skye says, he discovered the existence of Foo. Publishing his story as a fictional series was not Obert’s first choice. Nevertheless he is content that the “history” is being told.

Two multi-million dollar fandoms merge together in this hilarious, middle grade illustrated novel. The second in the Creature From My Closet chapter book series, Potterwookiee is great for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and other similar illustrated novels.
After the Potterwookiee emerges from Rob's closet, the little guy ends up in a weird trance. To help him, Rob turns to the first Harry Potter book for the answer, illustrating that wisdom can be found in the pages of great books. Aside from helping his hybrid friend, Rob must also keep him safe from others and overcome the neighbourhood bully.
As a Potterhead and a fan of Star Wars, I really enjoyed this book. It's an easy, entertaining read for reluctant readers and is filled with hilarious illustrations to break up the text. Parents and educators can feel good about this clean, well-received, and most definitely fun read for middle grade readers.
This is a lighthearted book about Robert Burnside who has a problem. His closet makes weird creatures. This book takes place after Wonkenstein. It is for younger Harry Potter and/or Star Wars fans. I overall liked this book a lot.
It was kind of entertaining and some of the jokes more so. But not sure if he can pull this gimmick off again and again and again (or how many more books there are supposed to be in this series).
I have this book in my Favorites shelf because of the hilarity of it as well as the appeal of joining two very popular fandoms: Star Wars and Harry Potter. This book is written in the similar style of Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Dork Diaries- both of which are popular for the 4-6th graders. The story is the second installment of The Creature form my Closet where creatures emerge from Rob's closet, much to his dismay, to make his life more complicated than it already is.
I imagine students reading this book for fun for this book is perfect for catering to a student's imagination. The main character is relatable with his frustrations as well as we've all been scared of the monsters hiding in our closets so this story spins those monsters into something funny and not so scary after all. This is also a great challenge for students that are ready to take on chapter books as it does have chapters, yet they are broken up into illustrations and short paragraphs through out instead of just pages filled with words.
This book takes two wildly popular series, Harry Potter and Star Wars, and merges them into one tiny, smelly creature.
Robert has an unusual closet. Not only does it store all of the junk he stuffed into it, but it seems that an unused chemistry set combines with other stuff in there and spits out strange creature combinations. So is born, Potterwookiee, a combination of Harry Potter and Chewbacca, a smelly, hairy wookie looking creature with a Potter scarf and wand. And that is only the start to the problems, add bullies, an annoying big sister and little brother, a set of crazy friends, and the Flinger.
Great fun, great illustrations and the story just speeds along.
This book is awesome. It is about A kid named robert who who has a closet that creatures keep coming out of. first it was wonkenstein and now its potterwookiee. wonkenstein was a mix of willy wonka and frankenstein and now potterwookiee is about a mix of harry potter and chubbaca. he has 5 friends and goes on a fun adventure with spells, lightsabers, funny stuff, and more in this crazy, funny, and out of this world weird book that is the second in the series the creature from my closet by obert skye.
Critique of The Creature From My Closet:Potterwookiee The Creature From My Closet:Potterwookiee by Obert Skye is a wonderful book. The closet of our bedrooms can be filled with monsters. In Rob’s closet, it’s a creature that looks like Harry Potter and Chewbacca. With all of the problems in Rob’s life right now, the Potterwookiee just makes things harder for Rob. Rob goes to the library, tries to get the help of his “friends”, and finds something could fix everything. The word choice for this book isn’t precise, but for this book it’s a good thing. The book is structured like a Big Nate book, and having precise word choice would ruin the book. For example, on page twelve, the author wrote “As soon as Wonk helped me solve my problem, he went back into the closet and disappeared”. Having a more precise word such as vanished, would not fit this book at all. Keeping it casual is very good for this book. Also on page 173, the author wrote “I just stood there in shock”. Like I stated previously, having a more precise word such as “awe” would not fit this book whatsoever. The point of view of this story is also interesting as well. Rob is your stereotypical teenager. He hates a lot of things. His Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister, School. On pages two and three, Rob calls his sister “obnoxious”, and he thinks that his Dad’s a problem as he is “always happy”. Seeing the world through his eyes makes the story more relatable to my life (Except that I don’t hate everything, just a couple of things). It can also bring back memories of being a teenager if an older reader reads the book. In the end, The Creature in My Closet:Potterwookiee is a great book to read. It’s not a serious book such as the Hunger Games, it’s just a fun book to read when you have nothing else to read at all. I would recommend this book to anyone. It’s not inappropriate at all, just a light hearted book. However, this book is part of a series. If you want to understand why all of this is happening, read the first book in the series, Creature from My Closet: Wonkenstein.
Oh, holy moly! As a mom, a teacher, and a librarian, I read a LOT of children’s lit. As a Harry Potter fan, the cover of this book really caught my eye. Potterwookiee is part Harry Potter and part Chewbacca. His name is Hairy. The time I spent reading this book is time I can never get back, and my IQ has dropped 4 points. Just don’t bother…just don’t… 😩👎
This was such a fun and cute read. I'm 49 so waaayyy over the recomended age af 9-12 but trust me when I say that it worked just fine reading this as an grand old woman.. It was cute and fun and and laughed more then once.
Beeding both a Harry Potter and Star wars nerd this was a must and it didn't dissapoint
Ok. I need a breather... Ok I'm good. Now, THIS is what I call... *drumroll* THE BEST SERIES EVER! Really, I'm like, looking for a sequel for this book that features the famous Hairy outside of the series.. Wait, I'll be right back, just need to grab the next book...
I read this a while ago, me and my brother love this one! Harry Potter and Star Wars meet in this goofy book where Robert has to take care of it without it getting catapulted by his friends, throw out in the garbage or paralyzed by a screech owl! (All of those happen! Poor Robert!)
This book is really funny and I like that about it. at sometimes it could be plain. one of the best things about it is that it is very creative and it kind of reads like a diary of a wimpy kid book.
Great for the child ready to move on in chapter books from books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Funny, high interest, and a great way to find out more about some classic "creatures".
I really enjoyed this book. It was cute and funny. It’s a nice and easy book to read, but it’s still entertaining and interesting. I’d recommend this book.
This book is so good!!! It has EVERYTHING. From amazing personalities to cool made up stuffed animals! (This book isn’t even the first one in the series! I read book number two.😅)
My 8 year old enjoyed this book so much that he read the rest of it without me. I had to read the end alone because he didn't want to read it a second time during bedtime. Little jerk lol
Potter wookie Summary: Of all Rob’s problems (siblings, friends, bully at school and the cute girl next door) his closet is the biggest worry. He believes it is because the chemistry set shoved in the closet is leaking onto all those books people have given him to read, causing strange creatures to mysteriously appear. He calls it the Drip Theory. The latest creature the closet disgorges is a small very smelly cross between Chewbacca from "Star Wars" and Harry Potter. Rob calls him Potterwookiee, Hairy for short. Hairy seems to be helped by the new heavy closet door that stays shut after Hairy’s appearance. Keeping Hairy hidden becomes another problem since he can’t be carried around in a backpack. Once when he was hidden in the beanbag chair, it was accidently tossed into the garbage. Rob and his friend Trevor barely dug him out of the truck before he was crushed. Hairy’s smell is a dead giveaway wherever he is. Rob and Trevor find the way to break Hairy’s secret with Harry Potter’s “Undoing” spell, then the creature begins using powers against the school bully and to levitate the family car. When Rob enters the Average Chef Cooking Contest, Harry again helps him out. Main characters description: Rob is a straight A student who likes to read and collect thumb tacks. He is very shy and can’t stand up for himself. He has blue eyes and brown hair. He has one good friend but the rest of them are jerks. He really likes to cook and he watches Average Chef. Then potterwoookie is a mixture of hairy potter and a wookie so that’s how he got his name. he is all brown with glasses. He wears a robe and has a wand. He is very weird and he does magic. He likes to stand up for rob and he is a good friend. Setting: The setting takes place in his house, at a grave yard, at school, and at a cooking place. In 2011 Conflict: He has to stand up to a bully. The bully takes his bike and he shoves him and makes fun of him. Rob is too shy to stand up so he just takes it. He is a wimp and he can’t even talk to him. Resolution: He talks to his friends and they agree to stand up to him. So potter wookie and his friends go and tie him to a tree. Then they run to his house steal the bike and run off. He never messed with people again. Opinion: The book is very good and I liked to read it. I rate it five out of five a very good book. It is very good because it has many adventures. Also it is good because it has a good background story. Recommendation: I would recommend this to whoever likes graphic novels and adventure. or to anyone who likes weird mystical creatures. and if you like just weird in general then read this book.
This is book 2 in the Creature In My Closet series and it was just as good! The creature that came out in this book is called Potterwookie. Rob just calls him Hairy, though. He is half wookie or Chewbaca from "Star Wars" and half "Harry Potter". At first, Rob tries to keep it a secret. But when he goes to the library to see if they have books about Harry Potter and Star Wars, Jack is there. Hairy has an odor that really stinks and Jack noticed it so Rob told him what it was. When they were walking home, an owl came and tried to take Hairy so he put a spell on the owl. But it rebounded onto himself and he wasn't able to move. They scared the owl away and took Hairy back to Robs house. They find out how to fix him and then get him back to normal. Rob finds out that his favorite TV show, "Average Chef", was coming to his town for auditions. He also finds out that Janae, his crush, is also trying out. He doesn't want any competition, but his friends make everything so much worse. At the auditions they only have a certain amount of time to make a great meal with certain average items such as water, eggs, flour, lettuce, bacon, apples, jam, and peas. His mom and little brother, Tuffin, are also competing. Hairy casts a spell to stop time and it freezes everyone except for Rob and Hairy. Rob uses that time to make the best meal he can. Then Hairy stopped the spell and time was up. The team that won was... Team Burnside! But not Rob's team. It was his mom's. He was bummed that he didn't win, but excited to see that Tuffin was happy. When they got home, Rob and Hairy were laying on the bed reading when suddenly Hairy got up and started walking towards the closet. Rob new what was happening so he took Hairy and jumped out the window. He took him to the cul-de-sac and held him there. Hairy summoned a bunch of brooms toward Rob so that he would let go. While he was busy catching them, Hairy jumped onto the catapult and put a spell on the rock and made it float and then fall onto the other end of the catapult. He flung himself back into Rob's room and then Rob saw the closet door open and then close. When he got back he saw that Hairy's scarf was there. He picked it up and then put it in the drawer right next to Wonk's cane. See what happens next in book 3: Pinocula!
Chase Cook Period 1 2 Mrs. Toney May 22, 2105 Potterwookie This is a really great book in my opinion. The main character (Robert) is looking at his closet all of a sudden it opened and this thing popped out. Robert named the thing potterwookie. Potterwookie had a really bad stench. Robert gave potterwookie a bath and he didn’t smell as bad as before. All of Roberts’s friends made fun of him for having a stuffed animal. His friends get ahold of him and they want to use the flinger (a thing that they made to fling objects.) to launch harry (harry- short for potterwookie.) As they were getting ready to fling him Robert was getting worried that he was going to get hurt. When they flung him he went right through the window of Robert’s room. Robert ran all the way to his room from the neighbor’s yard and checked on harry. There is a bully and they think it is time to take care of him. They went to a graveyard and told him to meet them there. As the bully showed up harry cast a spell on him and they acted like they were dads and asked him where Roberts’s bike was. A few weeks later they were applying for a cooking competition. Roberts little brother wanted to join but their team was full of people. Roberts’s mom and his little brother entered by themselves. At the end of it they called up the winners of the competition and his mom and brother won it. The main characters name is Robert. He likes to hang out with his friends a lot. The setting of the book is at Roberts’s house. Another place this story takes place at is the cooking competition. The conflict of the book is that they wanted to beat the girls I the cooking competition. They are determined to beat them. If they do it would prove that the boys are better that the girls. The resolution is that they keep cooking. They try lots of different things at their house. That way they could know how to cook a lot better than the girls. I my opinion this is a really great book. One reason is that it’s funny. Another reason is that the book is interesting. My recommendations for this book is to people that like comics. The only reason id that this book is a comic book.
The second book in the new “The Creature from My Closet” series, POTTERWOOKIE follows the day to day adventures of Rob Burnside and what happens when his strange closet ejects another mishmash creature from books and films. Written in the now familiar style that became popular with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, the opening chapter begins with an introduction of Rob and his adventures in the first book with the creature from his closet, Wolkenstein (a mashup of Willy Wonka and Frankenstein). This time Rob’s closet releases a creature that is a cross between Harry Potter and Chewbacca. Rob calls in a Potterwookie, but calls him Hairy for short. Hairy is capable of doing all sorts of unusual things (such as performing spells) and smells kind of bad. Realizing that Hairy has been sent to help Rob with some problem, but Rob has no idea what that problem is. He reads all of the Harry Potter books in an attempt to find a clue. In the meantime, he (and Hairy) deal with the typical stuff of a middle school boy, such as friends, family, dealing with bullies, and having a crush.
Even though POTTERWOOKIE isn’t a great story (for instance, there really isn’t any reason for Potterwookie to appear or disappear), but it is fun to read and pick up on the allusions made to both Harry Potter and Star Wars. I also understand why this type of book is so appealing to reluctant readers: it’s filled with humor and life events kids can relate to. Also, the style is like a stepping stone between comic books and non-illustrated books. Even though I was disappointed by the overall story, I did enjoy reading the book. Fans of the first book in the series will enjoy POTTERWOOKIE as well as readers who enjoy Harry Potter and Star Wars.
