People weren't supposed to live through what I lived through, and most of the time, I wish I hadn't. I came away from military service fucked up beyond all recognition, slinking back to my family's cattle ranch in Texas to heal, my tail between my legs.
Well, leg. Singular.
My brothers hire Hadley Parsons to put me back together again, and she's supposed to be the best of the best, tough and beautiful to boot.
I’d kick her to the curb right away and get back to guzzling beer and letting my muscles atrophy, but dammit…the woman sure knows how to get a guy’s attention. Maybe it’s her flashing green eyes, or the toss of her auburn hair, or her earnest determination – whatever it is, I’m suddenly a lot more interested in PT than I was a minute ago.
Hadley
When I walk into my newest client’s living room, I can see I have my work cut out for me. Oh, it doesn’t bother me – I’m made of tougher stuff than it seems, and I don’t mind getting down and dirty if I need to. I don’t even mind the insults he lashes out with, or his surly attitude.
Besides, something tells me this guy is worth my trouble.
Beneath the grime, I see a strong man, a handsome man – a man who’s capable of anything, who can take back his power.
I’ll do whatever it takes to get Hunter back on his feet…which is probably a good thing, because I’m about to seriously push some boundaries.
***Hunter can be read as a standalone book. For a limited time only, my first RUNAWAY is included as a bonus.
2.5/5 OW drama to the point that it makes me uneasy... ( she drugs him and has her way with him) Felt like there was a lot of characters ( his brothers) trying to be crammed into one book I felt like Hunter was never all that into her, he was always second guessing
I thought this was a really good book, up to a point. The first part of the book was excellent. I think it did a fine job of portraying the hero's mind set, both before and during his rehab. Then when the hero and heroine get together, it dissolves into a stereotypical formulaic romance, complete with break up caused by a jealous ex and lack of communication. Even the heroine changes from a strong woman to one who compromises her professional ethics by having sex with her patient, not once, but repeatedly, and also is totally willing to throw the hero over because "she loved him but she shouldn't" because he reminds her too much of her fiance that died. And then suddenly its all resolved, the end. I was really disappointed in a story that started with so much promise.
My main issue with this book is, that I can't connect with the main characters. I didn't feel connected to them, and their attraction wasn't there for me. I just didn't see them together.
There was a little bit of drama involved towards the ending (eye-rolling, because really?). And there was too much squeezed in at the end. The explanations of past events went so quickly and were on the surface, that it felt like an afterthought. But that's just my personal need for detail and depth.
The book ended rather abruptly. There is no epilogue in which the main couple gets their HEA. That's a little bit sad, because I felt that we left Hadley and Hunter too early. Their relationship was too fragile, so much could happen. Perhaps we'll read more about them in the future books of this series.
There are 5 brothers in the Corbin family – no girls and all born within 10 years... popped out as their friends say ready to work the ranch. But then their parents die and the eldest, at 18 is left with the job of bringing up the boys and also keeping the ranch going. Not so easy when the other boys don’t think they want to ranch and have other ideas – perhaps a cop, perhaps a Marine, perhaps a horse breeder and perhaps an entrepreneur. So some leave, but come back for various reasons and this book set tells why and also finds them all a romance. But in between there are trials and tribulations. Some relating to the ranch – cattle smuggling, drought and so on; and some relating to the girls they choose to fall for. Nice steady set of books with enough drama to keep a contemporary romance going.
I enjoyed the heaviness of this book. It touched on something that a lot of vets go through trying to reclaim a life that they may never be able to get back once they get home from war. Hunter seemed so real, his issues coming through the pages. A good first book to a series I want to know what's going to happen to the ranch.
The story is told strictly from Hunter's point of view, which was a change. Have you ever read a book and it was really just words, no emotion behind it as you read, that's what this was. Hunter was great but Hadley was shallow, no real personality. Maybe that's because the story was from his view. I'm reading the rest as well, it's something to kill time while I wait for the next great book.
I have to admit that I'm partial to Military Romances. That being said, Hunter's road traveled is one that I know well and have seen more that I cared to.
I love the reality that the author brought to life in her words <3
Great quick read and so worth it! Can't wait to meet Avery :)
It was so so. The main female is over the top and over dramatically characterized in my opinion and her profession wasn't very well researched for this book, so her character lacks A LOT. I liked that it was like a fuck fest on every page. there was actually some sort of story and I can appreciate that. I could relate to him on some level (got an active duty spouse) so it got me enough to give the second book a chance. I got it for free through Amazon Kindle unlimited, so at least I am not paying for it, which probably makes me more forgiving in my review of this...
This book was a cute senseless read, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The characters were largely underdeveloped, the plot was basic and predictable from the first page. I can normally get passed that stuff when I'm in the mood for a popcorn read, but this book is just missing the pizzazz it takes to be great. Don't waste your time. There's plenty of other great books in this genre.
Good writing just not a very good story. I liked the characters up until they hooked up and then the story went downhill. The characters became unlikeable and the story too typical.
I liked this book because for the most part it was pretty straight forward. The main characters are complex, but at the same time pretty easy to understand. The relationship between Hunter and Hadley is not the usual one between client and PT, she doesn't do pity, she doesn't baby him, she just starts bossing him around and doesn't let him get away with anything. Is the relationship part that gets complicated.
For the first book in the series it does a good job of introducing the characters in the family and the dynamics in the family. I liked this one and I'm looking forward to the rest of the brothers' stories.
