A Brief Look
The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, is a non-fiction book written by Susan Cain. The book is a product of Susan Cain’s research in a number of areas in science and humanities on the subject of introversion. Through her research, she discovered that being an introvert is completely natural, normal, and common to humans. She also found out that many of the great leaders of the world were introverts. Cain pushes for changes in how public institutions, such as schools and workplaces, are run; seeking more inclusion for introverts. She also advises introverts on how they can learn to function in a world that was created for extroverts.
The public has responded positively to The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. In 2012, the book was listed among the top 15 bestsellers for the New York Times.

Some nice insights backed by research into the introverted character type. Susan Cain deals with public speaking, stimulation boundaries, understanding introverted children amongst others, and how to cope in the western extrovert focused world.

Also explored are cultural differences where introversion and extroversion are valued differently.

Ultimately, I found this book reassuring and helped me understand and accept my own nature a little bit more, but at times I felt like the research findings presented were a bit too binary and I didn’t find anything particularly groundbreaking.

I recommend this book to introverts and extroverts alike to better understand each other and what we all need in terms of social stimulation and learning and working environments, and also to parents who are raising a introverted or ‘quiet’ child.

A disappointing book. I was primed to like this book, given that I consider myself an introvert. Unfortunately, the author chose to tell her own story over what should have been a good non fiction book. It also felt that she made the same mistake as extroverts often make, by putting (in this case) introverts on a pedestal instead of focusing on balancing the scales. We are all good, just in different ways.

The most useful and interesting part comes at the end of the book when the author talks about strategies to deal and work with introverts.

While there is a lot of technical jargon in this book, I absolutely enjoyed it. I relished learning all about my personality type & feeling understood. A very good read for all introverts!

the first time i read the book, i loved how straightforward the writer was. it rlly helped for the readers to actually be in the setting of the persona. however, halfway through the book bore me so much but i think it was just because i didnt relate to business concepts (there were many concepts about business in the book and i feel like most of them were repetitive already).

but, it was not until the last chapter where the feeling i got from reading the book from the first chapter ignited again! i felt like the last chapter really told my story as a child struggling to learn in the school's intimidating atmosphere despite how studious i am. when the book told a story about an introvert being overpowered by an extrovert in the sense of being able to tell one's ideas felt personal to me because ive already experienced that firsthand, especially as a child.

also, the last chapter gave me so manyyyy realizations. i couldve been adept to many things by now if only my self esteem wasnt affected during my early years in school. i also thought that i needed more parental guidance and exposure ESPECIALLY to settings where ure expected to sought out ur opinions and socialize with new people.

currently, im still struggling to express myself through words (especially in debate or in any sort of public speaking where there's a crowd) and it was from the book where i had realized that i have never ever embraced public speaking in my adolescence–in short, i didnt have any exposures because my parents didnt let me strive harder (not because they dont love me but because my parents just thought that i would be able to manage on my known) but guess what?? i still havent managed to independently develop myself. one thing that ive always contemplated when i read most of the chapters was that no one will ever do it for you (esp as a teenager approaching college) but without ur sole initiative.

so, its really important as a parent to support ur child with building their passion + exposing them to different fields wspecially where it requires gregariousness.

Quite a long book for me to complete but quite a good read. It takes about people who are quite in the outspoken world. So being quite is not indeed ignorance or arrogance or anything, it could just be a good habit of listening or a fear to talk, express or just waiting for the right time to talk.
This book speaks a lot of introverts, how they are and what they behave like. This book says that being Introvert does not mean that one cannot be successful. In fact there are a lot of very successful personalities in the world who indeed are introverts.
I sure cannot elaborate many details from the book, it is quite a read for me at least, but a few things I really am very much impressed are the details and the inputs given to go along, if you are an introvert or if you are working/living/loving with introverts.
Identifying the kids interests and parenting along is something I really loved in this book. I could recall and recollect some of the incidents about me, around me and in fact also with my kid. I wish to try implement and broaden the scope of understanding and living with both Introverts and Extroverts. As a matter of fact, I started to feel that I myself am more like those Sudo-introverts.
If you have someone who is sensitive around you, this book sure helps only that it is a long read, and for someone like me who is a snail pace reader, it takes a very long time. The book made sense to me, and I liked it but again it is specific, not something anyone would pick and read.

'Quiet' by Susan Cain is a thought-provoking book that I read while completing my undergraduate degree, and it left a lasting impression. Cain’s exploration of introversion is both insightful and empowering, offering a new perspective on how introverts contribute to society in meaningful ways.
The book is well-researched and filled with compelling arguments that challenge the common perception that extroversion is the ideal. I appreciated how Cain highlighted the strengths of introverts, from their deep thinking to their ability to lead with calm and clarity.
If you’re an introvert, know someone who is, or just want to understand the introvert experience, 'Quiet' is a must-read. It’s a celebration of different personalities and an exploration of how they thrive in various environments.

Articulate & incisive exploration of introversion vs extroversion (read as a book-club selection). One criticism I can offer, is that I have reservations about the fact that the author revealed a pre-existing prejudice/agenda in writing the book (she's an introvert who considers her characteristics overlooked & neglected by others in the current culture & she may be right; but a book based on research-based conclusions is ideally presented by a neutral party). Still, she adeptly presents fascinating information which is readily accessible to the reader, intellectually & emotionally. I like some of her ideas & strategies (for example: "restorative niches" for introverts who want to operate most effectively in an extrovert environment).

If you prefer to sit quietly on your own to recharge after a long week of hard work you might be an introvert.
Throughout your life you might have felt inadequate or somehow damaged due to your preference of contemplation vs socialization.
In this book you will find redemption. You will discover that you can be an effective leader, presenter and even social event hoster if you decide it so. But if you don’t that’s ok you are uniquely equiped to contribute to society in special ways that extroverts can’t easily.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Each of us has a bit of both in our personalities, but it seems that the traits of one or the other will be predominant. Susan Cain explores what it means to be an introvert in a world geared towards extroverts and their behaviours. A fascinating and thoroughly researched book with some surprising conclusions.

About introversion. Read your help Chris and ways I can help him.
Quite america centred and about business.
Lots of psychological studies… but thinking more openly about the pros and cons of introversion and extroversion is good.
I have a greater acceptance of the benefits of introversion.
I thought I was mostly extrovert but maybe not true… I definitely have some introvert traits too.

This novel is both excellent and interesting due to the subject matter. It deals with the social views of extrovert and introvert. There are many of these issues which are constantly portrayed in the books and real life.

Susan Cain ties in ideas with her experiences as she takes us through different moments in her life and evaluates them. She incorporates so many ideas to do with psychology and applies them to real life problems. An outstanding novel that touches on functions of parts of the brain and how they influence different personality types. Will definitely read again. Highly recommend to students of psychology.

After reading one is able to find their optimal level of arousal and understand the inverted U effect on their performance.
