Amateur sleuth Charlie Davies is back again, and this time she's taking on a Russian gangster. Maybe.
Charlie's boss, the less-than-friendly Adam Baxter, has received information that local club owner Lonny Lionel is, in fact, an escaped foreign criminal - but that's not the kind of thing you can just come out and ask someone. Adam wouldn't normally ask Charlie to help him (she's not exactly his star employee), but she happens to have an 'in' - her friend is dating the man in question.
As if that's not enough to deal with, James McKenzie - Charlie's on-again, off-again worst enemy - is being strangely friendly towards her, and now her other nemesis (her former best friend, Celia) is back on the scene, looking to befriend her too. If she doesn't watch out, Charlie is going to run out of adversaries.
Oh, apart from that gangster she's spying on, who will torture and murder her if he finds out what she's doing. (If he actually does turn out to be a criminal, that is.)
When she stumbles upon a dead body at a local construction site, Charlie starts to think that this time she might be in over her head.
Not that it would be that hard - she is pretty short.
Clare Kauter writes laugh-out-loud funny books across genres, including mystery, romantic comedy and paranormal fiction. She is known for her loveable hot mess characters, dubious puns and occasional (OK, frequent) inappropriate jokes.
Clare isn’t going to tell you where she lives, because she always finds it weird when other authors do that in their bio. Why would you care? Unless you’re a stalker, in which case it’s probably better if she doesn’t give you a head start.
At any given moment she’s probably sipping tea while hunched over her pink keyboard in a super attractive posture, writing her next book and snorting like a piglet at her own jokes.

4.5 stars. This one wasn't quite as good as the first one, in my opinion, but it's still pretty hilarious. I love Charlie and her antics and banter with everyone so much! And now I have to start reading the next one like ASAP.
It took me longer than normal to read thus as I was having 11 Abcesses and 11 teeth pulled due to that. So I'd read, hurt, take pain pilks, fall asleep, repeat. The characters were cute and well written.
I can not even say a bad thing about this book or the first one. I laughed out loud at times (sitting in a hospital). I just hope the jest of the series is just as good. I don't think it will be a disappointment. (I already bought the whole series) lol
I would give this book 10 stars if I could! Charlie is feisty & sassy. Love her snarky attitude. And while she is the klutziest person out there, she is also the bravest, most loyal, & intelligent. She follows her instincts & intuition ultimately solving the case but not without causing ultimate chaos all around her. The supporting characters are quirky, yet I would love to be part of their group. Can't wait to see what Charlie gets herself into next!!
