This story takes place entirely in the canon universe, diverging from GRRM's epic at two points--Ned's execution and Catelyn's murder at the Twins--and examines all the ways that the survival of these two people might have changed events both large and small in the world of Westeros. The ripples have far reaching consequences for many throughout the Seven Kingdoms, but at its heart, this is a story of two people, their marriage, their family, and the North.

This is a work of speculative fiction based of George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire.

What if Varys snuck Ned out of Kings Landing? What if Catelyn didn't die at the Red Wedding? How would the Stark family, the North, and the Seven Kingdoms go forward when two vital players stay in the game? DKNC crafts a masterful alternate universe where the Stark family fights to reunite, Jon finds out his bloodline directly from Ned, and Danaerys suddenly has to negotiate with a man she holds responsible for her family's fall.

This is not a short story. It is not an easy story either. It deals with abuse, rape, and major character death, but does so in a way that never feels exploitative. I could not stop reading it, and highly recommend it.
