The hundredth anniversary of the Hatter’s Cove Catastrophe Winter Games has just begun and reporter Kat Archer has been ordered to get a heartwarming story of Hatter’s Cove residents and their feline companions competing in a quintessential Hatter’s Cove tradition.
However, what she actually gets are stories of jealousy, lies, cheating and, by the end of that night, murder.
Almost everyone chalks the death up to a tragic accident caused when the victim tripped over Mrs. Claws, the two-time reigning champion, while descending the stairs.
Kat on the other hand is convinced the woman was murdered and is determined to get an invitation to Canary Island in order to investigate.
She just hopes the Gazette’s resident rat catcher can help her score an invitation to the exclusive island before the killer strikes again.

The Hatter's Cove Catastrophe Winter Games is a long standing Hatter's Cove tradition that's reached its 100th anniversary. Every year people and their feline companions head off to Canary Island just off the cost of Hatter's Cove. It's not what Kat would have chosen for herself, but Hayden, her boss and now secret boyfriend, decided she needed something light and easy. Something where he won't have to worry about adding to her dead body tally. They were both wrong.
I'm happy to say there was definitely in increase on the mystery aspect in this book, as well as an increase of length. The usual characters didn't have much presence in this one, besides Kat and Hayden, but there's a slew of great characters that are just as memorial in this installment.
Much is happening in Hatter's Cove, a film crew with celebrities, sporting events and several other exciting and wonderful things going on, but poor Kat, journalist at the Gazette, who has had a knack of finding herself in trouble accompanied usually with a dead body in tow, has been assigned to the annual cat show.
Hayden, Kat's editor in chief and love interest, thinks that he can keep her out of trouble by assigning her to the event, but boy, was he wrong.
First a death at the event before the finale, which was to take place on an island. First you have to qualify by the amount of ribbons. Kat decides to enter with Rooster, the office cat. The games are more involved then Kat thought giving some funny situations. Kat is the only one seeing a murder, everyone thinks it was a tragic accident. Add to this conspiracy of cheating, cat fights and mysteries and you have a great tale.
I loved this story. All the Hatter's Cove stories have had wit, humour, murder and relationships, that let the story flow so well. I couldn't wait to get back to this book when life intervened to take me away from it. One that you just don't want to be away from. Hatter's Cove's residents recur throughout the series, so to enjoy the series and find the history and stories of the characters, it is best to start with book 1.
A gem of a story, I can't wait for the next instalment.
Another great one! And the resident "rat catcher" is definitely one of my favorite characters and I wish they would have more of him. Also I think he can use a friend there, perhaps another kitten, or maybe a bird? Something to keep him company when the rats run out.
Loved it! Once again, just as you think you've figured it out... there's a twist. Though I'd like a little more advancement in Kat and Hayden's relationship, overall it was a great story.
Another good cozy mystery and enjoyable series. Loved the spins and twist with good writing and decent characters. Loved the spins and twist to this adventure Kat went on. Enjoyed the unexpected twist towards the end. I do have to agree with Hayden when he says death with a mystery gravitates to Kat. And the humor just love it. I keep hoping for more of the romantic scenes but the feline scenes sure did provide perfect entertainment to keep me from sighing on the quick lovey Dovey moments.
Every time I start a Hatters cove gazette mystery I find myself acting like an eager kid opening a present. Unsure of what lies inside. Love it. This is what keeps me coming back for more.
This is another good cozy mystery in an enjoyable series. And there's cats. This is a fun, easy read. It's not too hard to figure out who the killer is but the twist and turns are enjoyable. The writing is good and the characters are decent. There are some really funny parts in this one. Overall a good, solid cozy. I would recommend this book to folks who like a fun cozy mystery.
