Yarn Genie Imogene's billion-dollar inheritance is missing, her FBI boyfriend's whereabouts are unknown, her deceased father has been branded a double agent spy, and she is about to lose her mansion unless she can find a way to pay the bills. When she accepts a job as a receptionist for a fledgling magazine company, she has no idea that her bosses are not what they seem. Imogene just wants to be able to pay her bills and keep her mansion, but she finds herself and her doggy houseguest hooked into murder when one of the magazine's associates is found dead. Can this unwitting yarn sleuth unravel this latest mystery, before time runs out?
After spending 28 years enforcing consumer protection laws, Celeste Bennett retired from her position as Consumer Protection Director for the Michigan Department of Agriculture intending to dabble in her yarn crafting and creative writing hobbies while spending more time with her three children. Once her children were well entrenched in college life, she pursued her writing in earnest, having several novels in progress.
Celeste draws from her science background, her years in enforcement, her sense of humor, and her creativity to bring a sense of realism to the stories she wants to share with readers.
Genie's life continues to get more complicated, now she needs to find a job. I can't help but to hold out hope that she will soon find the billions that her husband hid away. That's not the only mystery in this story though. Is Genie's father alive? What's up with Gordon? Who's creeping around in her house? Russians, really? What do they want? So many questions. Seems like they all won't get answered or can Frank find the answers for Genie. Must read more of this series to get all of the mysteries solved. So much fun.
I could not put this book down I loved it from beginning to end! So much was going on with some really interesting characters, I need to start the next book in this series as soon as possible.
I set aside my misgivings for the first in this series and ended up liking the read. This time, I just can't. Between Imogene's cluelessness, the will we/won't we romance, the idiotic half sister and many family issues, I can't enjoy the clever mystery. Pity.
This was a well written story. I loved the storyline it is very complex and detailed. The characters are very developed. This book certainly evokes a lot of feelings.
This is the 2nd of her Yarn Genie mysteries. The author is actually a local writer for me, and my daughter has gotten me autographed books for gifts. Imogene is basically your spoiled billionaire woman who suddenly loses her money. Because she has several phobias, she has barely left the house in years. Now she finds she has to fend for herself, but really has no clue how to do it. Yet she has found herself in two criminal situations while trying. This book has several editing errors which makes it very hard to read the book smoothly.
