Timeliness/Permanence: This resource will have to be replaced with an updated version as new children’s literature is published each year.

Relation to Similar Works: The same authors have written Best Books for High School Readers. The format remains the same but the books are geared for older students.

Content/Scope: This 1900 page bibliography lists the best recreational and educational reading for children in preschool through grade 6. Over 25,000 of the best fiction and nonfiction for children, that are currently in print.

Accuracy/Authority/Bias: Libraries Unlimited is an internationally acclaimed publishing company. The titles included in this bibliography are so comprehensive so as not to find bias.

Arrangement/Presentation: Arranged thematically, with each entry having bibliographic information and a brief annotation. Many also contain award information and citations to reviews. Multiple indexes which provide access by author and illustrator, title, subject, and grade level.

Relation to other works: Very comprehensive for elementary schools, and is considered an essential resource for school and public libraries.

Accessibility/Diversity: The titles are comprehensive and include over one third of new titles in the most current edition.
