Three sassy and single women--Zoey, a best-selling novelist; Jade, a real estate agent; and Marielle, an African-American actress--who have been best friends for years, reunite and wreak havoc on Manhattan as they search for the perfect shoes and the perfect man. Reprint.
Honestly I've been trying to read this book for years and when it finally happens it takes forever because these characters are so vapid! I can't seem to care about anyone or relate to anyone. Not that I should have to relate to characters all the time but no one is interesting in this book; I've rolled my eyes to many times that I'm surprised I can see straight and don't even get me started on how annoying it is to read a black character written by a white author who excessively used words like "booty" "sista friend" and whatever stereotypical thing non-people of color think black people, specifically women say. It's really annoying. Super disappointed and extremely bored.
Well I wasnt expecting much and this deliver little. Its a cliche - college friends group up and apart one gets divorced so they all join back together. No new territory here but it's cliche because it works and while I didnt care about any of there characters, I didnt hate them either. New York is a central character in the story and I know that's not new but it was my favorite part.
Loved the characters, especially Mouse and Merlin, and found myself rooting for them the whole book through! Plus I love a good book set in NYC and this one definitely hit for me!
The first time I tried to read this I made it half way through the book and got so bored. I put it aside and found it a year later, having nothing else to read and was desperate, I decided to give it another try. It did take awhile for it to get really interesting, but in the end I think I enjoyed it much better then Girl's Night Out! I think I can say that my favorite character was Zoey. Just Divorced, moved back to NYC, staying in friends apartment, tries to cope with stress, being broke, and being alone, while trying to write a book. It had a really great ending, all three girls got exactly what they wanted!
Take away all of the softcore porn and the writing is decent. The story is good and the characters are developed. I don't shy away from sex, but rather descriptive scenes about it kinda just aren't my thing. Take that out of the equation though and you have 4 great friends. One thing I did really like is the addition of a gay character to the traditional female dominated niche.
The ending is all very clean. It is an enjoyable little romp.
It was okay. Good friendships, different personalities...a lot of it was predictable and the sex scenes didn't work for me. For example, and I quote, "She felt like she could ride his rocket into the sky, his super-powered express ship"...stuff like that.
Easy book without much depth to any one character. Could have been an episode on a tv show. The characters could be any 20 something struggling to find a place and going through it all with friends, booze and men.
ok so this is not a Pulitzer prize winning novel, but it was a fun read. I really liked Jade. she was fun and interesting. Zoey got on my nerves a bit.
The plot was predictable but that's ok. The main love interest didn't show up until the last few chapters of the book. everyone's storyline wrapped up nicely.
ok so very briefly, this book opened with Zoey, a writer, moving back to Manhattan after separating from her husband. she gets back in touch with her 3 friends; Merlin, Jade and Mouse. looking back, Mouse was fun too. Merlin reminds me of Stanford, Carrie's friend in Sex and the City.
