Cliff Jones was a key part of Tottenham's famous and much-loved Double winning side of 1961. Tremendously quick, a great crosser, and a brilliant header of the ball, Cliff was considered to be the best left winger in the world in his pomp.
This is his story. How he rose through the ranks to play for his home town team, Swansea Town, as a 17 year old, his move to Tottenham Hotspur and development under the tutelage of Bill Nicholson, the famous 1960/61 Double, European success and his near move to Juventus.
Through it all he proudly represented Wales and played in the 1958 World Cup where an injury ravaged side lost to Brasil and a young Pele in the Quarter Finals.
Charming, engaging and always smiling, Cliff is still a well-recognised figure at White Hart Lane where he works as an ambassador for the club.
I am a lifelong Tottenham fan and Cliff Jones has been one of the greatest legends to come out of White Hart Lane, I was fortunate to see him score one of his last goals at the Lane on 29th April 1968 when we beat Coventry City 4-2. An easy read about a great footballing career, a great read not only for Spurs Fans, highly recommended.
A real pleasure to read the autobiography of one of Tottenham's unheralded and most beloved legends. From his early days in Swansea to double winning fare with the Spurs. He played in a World Cup versus Pele and crossed paths with legends such as John Charles, Bobby Charlton and Duncan Edwards. He is open and honest about his alcoholism and how he bounced back. A must for all Spurs fans
