Huzzah! The series is at an end.

Tldr: It's a decent apocalyptic series for teens. A little weak in some areas but nothing I'd have noticed as a kid.

As an adult I found the character development stunted and wasn't sure if that was a writing thing or a teenager thing. There were plenty of times I rolled my eyes at characters being immature, annoying, defeatist, or dense. I tend to have those moments with all YA work though so I'm thinking it's just because they're kids.

I did like that we managed to check in with characters across the globe, that there was a sense of danger in loosing chracters along the way, that all the codex items did in fact work, and that things were never perfect.
I didn't like that the ending was kind of cheesy, or that we never addressed how anybody stayed alive re nutrition during the year. These kids did not have a well balanced diet and aside from comments about looking/feeling gross when they'd come off a bender, nobody seemed to be considering well balanced meals.
I started with wondering how the content would hold up post y2k. After reading it, frankly we still have enough world-ending or historical events to make the tension feel real. It's still plausible that Russia would have things to kill us all. We're/I'm just a bit more jaded now so the premise still slaps, but not as hard.

Parker continues his post-apocalyptic dystopian future with teenagers starting to have magical powers, and who are hoping to fulfill a prophecy that would save their destroyed world. Parker drives this story almost exclusively through dialogue and has the fast-paced action that is ideal for a young-adult audience but that leaves almost anyone else full of questions. This is one of those series that while you might love as a teenager, you will dislike as an adult.

I LOVED this series. It was so good. It was just the right amount of complex without being too hard to follow. The story was so good. There was so much build.

The ending is complete garbage though. It really ruined it for me for the longest time, however I would still recommend reading the series through because its a valuable series.

kinda upset at how un-climactic the ending was but i dont think that takes too much away from the story.
