Do you need a laugh? Hey, we all do! This collection will take you from reality to fantasy, from cute to profane, and from grins to guffaws. These seventeen original stories are packed with sarcasm, satire, and wickedness, and are so completely tongue in cheek there’s no way you can avoid a smile.

Authors hailing from faraway places on either side of the Atlantic Ocean, in big cities and out in the countryside, offer their insights into what we call humor. Comedy is hard work. Humor is so often experienced in a particular situation and is often impossible to reproduce. Writing funny stories must come from conditions which allow the writer to laugh at himself. If we could remember all the funny things that happen during a day (or night), we would laugh a whole lot more.

Years ago I wrote a short story in Icelandic called “Ógurlegi drekinn” (which might translate to English as “The Frightful Dragon”), but at the time I didn’t know what to do with it. Not until I came across a group that was going to do charity anthology to benefit Médecins Sans Frontières, or as it is known in English, Doctors Without Borders. It was going to be an anthology of humorous stories, and I thought this story might possibly fit into it.

So I translated it, and the story became “The Ballad of the Fire Spewing Dragon”. As you can see the title got a bit longer, but so did the story itself. It’s about a dragon called Ignitabulum, and his problematic life. As you might guess, it has one foot in fantasy, but luckily it has the other foot in humor. It was the first story in English I got published in a book.

Now I’m not going to rate my effort or the book itself. Belief it or not, I might be a little bias. Part of the reason I have such fond memories of this book is that I met a lot of wonderful people while working on it, some that I still consider my friends, and some that I later worked with on other projects. But I did like reading it also. I hope you do too.

This anthology presents wit and hilarity. A comic relief to lighten up the soul and to brighten up the world; needless to say, why Shakespeare's fools were such highly regarded characters.
