Hosted by Malcolm McDowell and commissioned by Fangoria--America's #1 source for horror--these original short stories are fully dramatized to thrill and chill you.Included are the following stories."A Fungus among Us" by Steve Nubie. A mysterious fungus is causing people to act like zombies before their heads explode and spore-like snakes ooze out of their brains."Wolf" by Max Allan Collins. A modern-day werewolf whose appetite for beautiful young women vacationing at a lodge retreat has guests and workers panic stricken."The Late Shift" by Dennis Etchison. A company takes flesh peddling to a whole new level."Reincarnal" by Max Allan Collins. A young woman may be the reincarnated victim of a serial killer on the loose."A Good Head on His Shoulders" by Max Allan Collins. In Chicago, in the early 1930s, gang wars are an everyday occurrence. Mobster Louie Carboni is used to such violence. But what can the hideous decapitation murders of seven college professors, courtesy of a maniac dubbed the Mangler, have to do with the Mob?
In a world of crappy horror short collections, this is rather good. The audiobook has excellent production values, more like a radio play with talented players. My favorite was the third selection A Fungus Among Us, the opening story also has a good hook. A fine selection for commuters, since you don't have to pay much attention to enjoy it.
I'd give it five stars, but it suffers from the predictability that plagues the modern short story form. However, it gains four stars for not being the kind of stories that just drive to a cheesy punch line.
One of the best audio books I have ever listened to. This audio book had me looking around at times because I get absorbed into the stories. This makes a great distraction for any long trip but be warned it is hard to turn this off when in the middle of a story!
Great short story to listen to. The dramatization of this story was well done and the sound effects brought the story to life, especially the heads exploding.
Need more stories I've been waiting for more episodes I've finished all the episodes malcolm mcdowell is amazing the full cast for each episode always is
I listened to Volume 2, and that is probably a good thing. I just didn't enjoy the stories in the first volume as much. The production quality was still very good.
Some stories were better than others, but I was still entertained most of the way through. Really enjoyed the radio drama presentation. Excellent pick for the spooky season.
This was such a great dramatization and I enjoyed the stories. They were fun and entertaining, but also had a great creep factor to them. The host of the stories was phenomenal and had such a creepy voice and the other voice actors were great as well! I have been struggling to find good creepy storytelling like this and I will be listening to more of Fangoria's Dreadtime stories for sure!
Don't bother with this one. Although it has its moments, overall I found it uninteresting. I recommend skipping to Volume Two, which I found thoroughly enjoyable. You don't have to listen to Volume One before Volume Two.
Either this is a transcription of a radio drama, or they really want you to read the narration in Malcolm McDowell’s voice. Nothing special, but I was able to finish the whole thing while I had my coffee in the morning so I can’t really complain.
Although some of the stories are predictable, the narration and sound effects make this audiobook worth listening. Besides, Malcolm McDowell could read my phonebook and make it sound exciting.
This was a fun listen. Malcolm McDowell is always fun and he was a superb narrator. I enjoyed the Radio play atmosphere in the audiobooks and the whole thing was fun. I do want to try Volume II.
