Nobuyuki Fukumoto (福本伸行Fukumoto Nobuyuki) is a Japanese manga artist well known throughout the Far East for his unique and original gambling ideas, deep psychological analysis of characters and distinct artstyle. Yakuza and gambling are recurring themes in his manga. In English speaking countries, he is known best as the author of Akagi, a mahjong-related manga. In 1998, he won the Kodansha Manga Award for Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji. An onomatopoeia "zawa" (ざわ…), meaning an uneasy atmosphere, appears frequently in his comics and is considered Fukumoto's trademark. In June 2010, he visited Finland as a guest of honor for Desucon.
Someone actually spoiled this part in the comments section when I was watching the anime. I'm reading it knowing what will happen... like why💔😖?! Anyways.. Kaiji's problem is that he never stops trusting people, no matter how many times he gets betrayed. Man Kaiji, you need to stop gambling or stop trusting people!!! Can't wait to start the next volume!
[3rd Kaiji arc, volumes 1-13] 80% of the gameplay in this match went over my head because I don’t know how to play mahjong, but it’s always worth it for when a Kaiji character starts to go into their wiggly ugly crying meltdown. Also, one of the two Kaiji yaois is finally introduced in this arc (the Austin Powers one)
side note: stop being addicted to gambling, kaiji!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This part of kaiji is a tad slower than the other parts. Besides that the death game here uses mahjong. Here it is quite easy to understand how the game works but I feel like it still can be a bit confusing on a first read through. (I sure was confused a few times.) However the twists are still as brilliant and I really love the villain of this part. He may be no ichijou or Tonegawa but he is definitely great as a standalone character. However it is comparatively weaker to the future parts and most of part 1 and 2. Hence I will have to give it a 3.5/5.
This is the third series In the awesome Tobaku Kaiji gambling 🎰 manga series and This time Kaiji finds himself gambling in the awesome table game Mahjong😁👌😻💕🀄️🀄️
great texturing and amount of escalation within a closed room was super good - fun to read and good imagery/metaphors, dont even understand mahjong and was still engaging
