Pha Yul #3

Chakra: The Quest

Rate this book
Millions of years ago, the Padimites, refugees from another planet, secluded themselves to prevent a war that could harm humans. The Chakra, which they used to trigger their abilities, was destroyed and the pieces scattered. The only clue that remained of its whereabouts was encrypted in the Ancient Book.
But now, once again, the Padimites have to protect mankind and this time they must fight. And the Chakra could prove to be the difference between winning and losing. While Pha-yul prepares for war, Sam races against time to decipher the Ancient Book and find the scattered pieces. With Lucas and the rest of Dzog chen slob grwa hard on their heels, Sam and his circle speed across the globe in the quest for the Chakra.
How does Lucas know their every movement? Who is his spy in Pha-yul? As deceit and suspicion fills the air, the five can trust no one but each other. As each day takes them closer to war, alliances are forged and friendships broken.
The Ancient Book on which their hopes rest seems to contain the ramblings of a madman. Was Theriene in his right mind when he wrote the Book? Will it lead them to the Chakra? And, despite the odds if the five manage to find the Chakra, will it prove useful? Only time will tell and it is swiftly running out…

It was with great anticipation that I began to read the third and final part of the Pha Yul trilogy, and after completing it a few days later, I’m glad to report that it did not disappoint. What I’ve particularly enjoyed about this trilogy is that while each book was written in a familiar warm style, each also told a very different type of story. Book 1 detailed the children learning about their powers and heritage while book 2 concentrated on the annual Gran-sdur games - a brutal Olympic style competition between the different Padimite communities. At the end of book 2, the game changed and the children were thrust headlong into a life and death race to recover the pieces of the ancient Chakra – an alien device used to trigger Padimite abilities - and this is where book 3 starts. As with all parts of the trilogy, the characterisation remains strong, but with the odds stacked against them, there is a palpable sense of dread and a genuine feeling that they might not all make it to the end.

The plot moves at breakneck speed, moving from one life-threatening situation to another and varying locations across the globe, yet at no point do you ever lose track of what is happening. Not one aspect of this book disappointed except for the fact that it ended and that is a testament to its qualities. This book comes highly recommended to young and old alike, and once again, well done to Jan Raymond. More like this please.

What a wonderful ending to a an awesome trilogy! YA fans of Harry Potter will love this set of stories about a group of kids who learn they have unique gifts and then have to come to terms with what that means. I loved how in this final book everything comes full circle.

Overall, a very satisfying ending to an intriguing series. Highly Recommend!

As expected, the third book in the Pha-yul trilogy was an excellent read.
The author briefly mentioned what previously happened to refresh the reader's memory as she continued the entertaining story revolving around Blane and his five; Sam, Seb, Ryan, Maya, and Cassie.
In the previous volume, Sam discoverers that he is the Phyag-Ide and can read from the Ancient Book. He must keep it a secret and goes into hiding with the book.
A powerful Padimite named Lucas wanted the book as well as Sam's insight since it held clues as to where the 5 pieces of a chakra were hidden; pieced together, this chakra held answers on how to make powerful weapons plus powers that could be absorbed.
Sam and his circle worked together to decrypt each chapter of the book so that they may find each piece of the chakra before Lucas which was not an easy task. They had to work in secret, not knowing whom they could trust.
At the same time, Blane and other elders tried to find the location and entrance to Dzog chen slob grwa where Lucas and his followers were hiding to try and prevent a war.
I always loved the author's imagination and her created ancient civilization. I was not disappointed in the quest the author wrote about, or the obstacles and dangers the characters had to face. I could not put the book down!
The science fiction story was filled with adventure, excitement, suspense, as well as humour.
I liked how the author concluded the book.
If you loved reading the first two volumes, you won't want to skip this one!

I’m coming into this series late with the third installment. But the author did a bang up job catching me up with the crucial details I missed in the early part of the trilogy so I would not be lost to what was going on. The setup and the premise both reminded me of the movie, I am Number Four. Here you have a similar idea of kids who are not from Earth, but the last of their kind from another world. They too have to come to terms with super powers they had no idea they had as part of their coming of age drama. And if that isn’t confusing enough, they have to figure out how to use these powers to fight a great evil. This means apprenticing (which went on in the prior installment.) And in this installment, it means decoding a book that will allow them to find the chakra so they can take their abilities to the next level, find their true callings in life, and above all, save the Earth, and protect the last of their alien lineage. That’s a lot to do for a bunch of kids.

Partly because I was coming in late to the series, and partly owing to the nature of first acts, it took me a while to really lose myself in the story. Essentially the mystery components dominate. But eventually the momentum picks up, the stakes rise quickly, and the rest of the story is a good mix of action, and mystery, with a strong spiritual-metaphysical component. This will not be the first time I’ve circled back to read earlier installments of a series based on the strength of the installment I picked up.

Within the seemingly random rambles of an ancient text, written in a forgotten dialect and protected, held in secret for the coming of the Phyag-Ide, lies the key to the world's salvation. Or so it is believed. Sam, having discovered he is the prophesied saviour, works tirelessly, relying on the protection and insight of his circle as they race against the clock to decode the ancient tome, weed out the seemingly meaninglessness information from that he so desperately seeks. But Lucas is watching, some how aware of their movements and he wants the book for his own. He believes it and its secrets should be his. Suspicion is born as Lucas and the Dzog chen slob grwa seem to always know their plans, there has to be a traitor in their midst, such thoughts drive Sam and his circle to isolation, fearing who can be trusted. The fate of the world rests upon these young shoulders, but when their adversaries always seem to know their thoughts how can they be expected to win?

Chakra: The Quest is the third instalment in the The Pha-yul Trilogy. As the only book I have read in this series I must give the author credit for being able to create a stand alone book. Whilst some details were a little vague for anyone entering the series at this point, you do have access to the information needed which is essential to this plight. Suspense, mystery and action combine to unfold the twists and turns of an involved character-driven plot. Whilst focused on the young adult market, the adult market will also find this an enjoyable read.

This is the third book in the series centered on the colonizers of Earth from the planet Padim, and the quintet of Maya, Sam, Cassie, Sebastian and Ryan, descendants of said Padimites, united in their fight against evil, whose superhuman powers had been triggered by a lightning storm a year earlier. In the Prologue, top scientist Theriene is writing a book as he knows his race will die out, and his book will be needed in the future. This sets the context for the story which follows. Mankind's future once more depends upon the Padimites and their descendants. As with the two earlier books in the series, this is a stunning synthesis of mystery, action and suspense, as the five are locked into a race against time to retrieve the Chakra, decipher the Ancient Book, and evade the pursuing clutches of Lucas, as well as having to confront the haunting evidence of a spy in their midst. Gripping, multi-layered, atmospheric, both cosmically awesome and intriguingly inter-personal and character-driven, this is a beautifully-crafted-and-evolved tale which leaves you tense, expectant, and totally gobsmacked by its finale.

I was waiting for this book for a while because I wanted to know the conclusion of the series.

The five friends are back in this book, and their powers are stronger than ever. The one who really stands out is Sam. He has grown up tremendously from the first book; it was nice to watch his transition. He carries a huge responsibility in this story, and he was able to step up and do what he must.

I enjoyed how the story moved forward and how they all worked together. The story is about the good vs evil. I liked how Author Jan Raymond portrayed this in the story. The author also did a great job developing the characters and how they'd evolved from the first book.

Overall, I was very satisfied at the end. It was nice to see all five friends figure out what their true calling was. Highly recommend the story (from the first book).

I have been following this trilogy from the start and so was delighted to see the final instalment available! This book starts straight after the end of the second book and brings a whole new set of challenges for the Five. They have to decrypt a coded book to find all the pieces of the chakra, something that may or may not save the Padmites from the wrath of Lucas. It was a page turner from page one and well written. The story is excellently crafted to put you in the mindset of Sam and the other five, help you to see and feel what they are feeling as they set out on the quest. Adding in the situation with Blane and all the other Padmites left guarding the main community with a twist of intrigue, danger and espionage. I loved it and it was a great ending to a wonderful trilogy. Recommended not just to young adults, but to anyone who like a good story!

I have really waited for to read this final part of The Pha-Yul series, and my wait surely paid off! It's been a while since I read the previous parts, so I was pleased to see how nicely the author instantly took me back to her world and reminded me of 'who is who' without repeating the obvious. The action hits you straight on chapter two and after that it will be hard to put the book down!

Can Sam and his friends save the mankind? Can they solve all the mysteries thrown on their way? For me this series was like The Famous Five meets Indiana Jones kind of mix. Intriguing from the start until its thrilling finale.

This is an excellent read for young adults and of course for the adults too!

I felt as though I had waited a long time for this third installment of The Pha-yul Trilogy. Luckily I was able to catch up and recall the characters and their gifts/traits, in book 1 and 2.

What I loved was the way in which the characters have developed since book one. The teenagers have certainly grown up over time and now know what they are capable of.

Up against a difficult challenge, each must prove themselves as they go after...sorry, no spoilers.

Writing flowed well with such an easy concise way that one can't help but be sucked in. The story is great and in my opinion suits not only Y/A but also adults who just want to enjoy a great trilogy.

A well deserved 5 stars.

In book three of the trilogy, the five friends--Sam, Ryan, Maya, Cassie, and Seb--work together. They're under incredible pressure, both time and space, to solve the mystery and find the scattered pieces.

The only thing I don't like is it's the last book in the series. Jan Raymond does a great job at the end, wrapping up the story for us. It's bittersweet, since I knew it was the last of their adventures. The glossary of terms at the end is very helpful.

I was so glad to finally get to the third book. It barreled right along and kept me reading to the finish. A very satisfying conclusion to the other two books. The Epilogue was a wow. Very well done and I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire series. Great read.

The last part of the trilogy continues at a fast pace. The five and their friends face a huge battle, with more danger just as you think that's it's coming to a close. The last chapter is epilogue style and catches you up with what happens next
