Featuring work by Charles Harmon, Matthew Baker, Cynthia Robinson, Susan Engberg, Dionne Irving, Dan Musgrave, William Woolfitt, Corey Van Landingham, and Peter Cooley as well as the silhouette artwork of William Henry Brown and the notebooks of Bill Russell, who chronicled Mahalia Jackson's career.
This contained more misses than hits for me. It wasn't bad. The first half was all pretty good, but the rest was a bit of slog. There were, however, two major highlights:
"Somewhere Else" by Charles Harmon was a funny, awkward, but poignant portrayal of the stupid things guys do.
I wanted to like "Maison des Oiseaux" by Cynthia Robinson more than I did, but it still packed a punch and kept me reading until the end. A chilling portrayal of alcoholism and tragedy.
