Good book, could be read easily even with its more than 1000 pages. A good chronicle of the Spanish Civil War, great historical research on the author's part, nice love story. On the other hand, though, the writing was too light (maybe that's why I could read the whole book), and the dialogues and details about what the characters did (what they ate, their helloes and goodbyes) were way too spread, which was a way to make the book perhaps unnecessarily longer. Anyway, it was an epic story, a very good portrait of the Civil War and for the first time in my life I could read it from the fascists' point of view. I think that the main character was way too perfect and kind-hearted, even a little naive, but I especially loved the character of Soledad, who had more of a human side.
