You take photographs because moments matter—and scrapbook them, so you don’t forget why. The creative process elevates that desire to a joyful, fulfilling experience. But if our needs are ultimately simple, why do we perpetually feel so overwhelmed? It’s because we’re attempting to apply outdated scrapbooking expectations and “rules” to today’s world. However, by rewriting the rules we’ll no longer see scrapbooking as this complicated thing we must find time and space for, but instead as a simple approach to celebrating what we hold most dear. The five rules in this book offer you a permission slip to finally create a hobby that fills you up and fits your life. Crafting with your photos can be simple.
I have been following Jennifer Wilson for a while on several different social media platforms. I feel like her insight is usually very on trend with how people realistically feel. This book was very much more of the same. I think she identifies really well with her audience and listens when they ask for help. One of her biggest pushes is to keep things simple. Being part of a hobby that is constantly changing can make scrappers want to do it all. However, as Jennifer says, you can get really caught up with the latest and greatest and not accomplish your goals. I have found myself doing this more and more with new mixed media products. I have leaned by just a little and see if it really is something I can use. The other section of the book I really identified with was about seasonal creativity. I have been doing this for years but never had a name top put to it. Parts of the year I take photos but never do anything with them. Other parts of the year I am editing and developing like a loon. I might also spend time organizing without creating much. Then through the winter I create pages and pages! I would recommend this book for someone just starting out. I do think the seasoned scrapper will get more out of it thought.
As someone who is just getting back into scrapbooking this was a perfect read for me. It has taken a whole bunch of pressure off and I feel ready to just start making.
The information gained from this book was just like everything I have read before. I wish she had added more pictures to show what she was talking about.
I love how Jennifer gives us permission to be in charge of our pictures and our stuff instead of the other way around. she writes with humor and practical advice that really makes your "next step" clear
What a great book to not only get me motivated to create again, but also to feel empowered to do it my way! Jennifer gives great tips for getting out of a rut and shedding guilt. And that makes scrapbooking fun again.
This book really helped me realize my husband is right ... scrapbooking is a hobby I enjoy. I do it to please myself. If I don't get to my scrapbook room for a few weeks, there is no need for guilt. It will still be there when I have time or the creative mood strikes. I don't have to force it ...
Brief read about scrapbooking rules, I liked it a lot. It's short bu meaningful and can really apply to any hobby, not just scrapbookig. Definitely worth reading.
