It's been a long and lonely road for Machika as she searches for Rain. Totally down on her luck and running out of options, friends pop up in the most unlikely of places. Her goal is to get to the city of Raimei, where she hopes to find Rain...but will Machika find more than she bargained for?
Kaori Ozaki (Japanese name: 尾崎かおり) is a professional comic artist and character designer. She made her debut in 1993 at the age of 15 for shojo publisher Shinshokan with the short series An Angel above the Piano. Her breakthrough work Immortal Rain earned her great acclaim globally as it was translated into a dozen languages and eventually published in the United States by Tokyopop. She worked on the eleven volume series for 12 years before switching publishers and switching genres with her first title from Kodansha's young adult magazine Afternoon, The Gods Lie.
Immortal Rain gets back on track by forcing a pretty major storyline change at the end of vol. 4. (If you haven’t read it, I’m not going to spoil it for you here.) In any case, it’s a year later and Machika, searching for Rain, is trying to get to the city of Raimei, where she’s been told he is. When she gets there, she find some unexpected friends…
It’s the little details that have always made Immortal Rain such a good series. Kiki has grown in the year between the two volumes, and Ozaki has done interesting things with her. Machika has also changed, though not outwardly, as has Yuca. The little things add the depth and resonance, and they’re why I’m so fond of Karo Ozaki’s stuff. ****
This volume feels like the start of a second part to this story - complete with an exciting time jump. My only wish was that they jumped a bit farther as having our lead go from being 14 to 15 doesn’t quite feel far enough for my liking. But as far as age gaps go, this one hasn’t given me too much to cringe about. I mostly just ignore her age all together since Rain has more than 600 years on her anyway. In a modern or western adaptation, her character could easily be older. Nothing she does screams “15” to me, rather than proclaiming it for all to hear. Still a great start to this next portion of the story. I love seeing characters grow and change! Kiki and Ayla especially.
Reallly loved this manga! Really great story and awesome art, Very well Thought out and Extremely Complex story and fantastic character development! 😻👌💕
This book has changed-Kaori mentioned it too, from a attack-action series to a romance-action-attack which makes it all the more interesting. I saw the one with Rain and Machika, but not Ali.
So cool how Mr. Ozaki has changed Eury from some rude mean adolecent (I think) to a slightly less rude mean seemingly unwilling voyager with Machika, Ali and Rain.
It has been a year since Machika last saw Rain, and she has been searching the world in hopes of finding him, refusing to believe, despite all evidence pointing to it, that he is dead. Her belief that she will find Rain and be able to be with him again is all that keeps her living... but is she only running in a mournful fool's maze?
Once again we are left with a cliff-hanger! (see what I did there? lol) But Machika really kicked some ass this time. And Yuca is still causing shennanigans of coarse, and he always seems to be a step ahead from everyone else.
Oh looks like I read this then the other. Got the volumes mixed up. Anyway, this one was good as our MC tries to find Rain. Looks like the same outfit, but somewhat designed differently, I think with the sleeves? Cool cover.
