Volume one in a two-volume biography of the one disciple of Aleister Crowley to shape the destiny of the modern occult revival beginning in the late 1960s.
An invaluable book with fascinating insight into a time in Thelemic and occult history that is not well covered in such specifics anywhere else from this perspective. The book has some very strong points including the author's well-researched, multi-point approach to including never before released excerpts from letters and eye witness accounts from those involved. There are some points which could use more editing in my opinion, and I would love to see a second edition of this book with some edits implemented. These weak points are made up for by the value of the content itself, and the interesting conversational style which presents throughout as a result. The reader gets a sense as though he is sitting down with the author and hearing him tell a story. Such a style will not appeal to everyone. That said this book will be highly valuable as a resource to those interested in Grady McMurtry, Aleister Crowley, Jack Parsons, Karl Germer, Phyllis Seckler, and Thelemic history in general, especially as it relates to the A.'.A.'. and O.T.O.
