I’ve had the breath knocked out of me plenty of times, mostly during my time in the Navy. Big surprise, Navy SEALs get knocked around a fair bit.
But I don’t think I’ve ever lost my breath at just the sight of a beautiful woman before. Yet here I am, awestruck, trying not to make a fool of myself in front of new clients.
The woman at the top of the stairs must be the most gorgeous creature I’ve ever seen, and when she opens her lovely mouth, her thick, sexy Russian accent puts me completely under her spell.
I struggle to remember I’m here to meet the Bransons, not ogle their stunning nanny. Focus, Ryder…the Bransons’ baby was very nearly kidnapped, and they need your protection. And your professionalism. Getting to interview the smoking hot nanny will just be a bonus.
I’ll have to stay extra sharp, too, because I can tell almost immediately that something is not right in this huge, cold mansion. There’s more going on here than meets the eye, and it seems like everyone has something to hide…even the beautiful Alicia.
Alicia
The new bodyguard is not what I was expecting. He’s more enormous, more handsome…and more perceptive than I’d hoped he would be. It seems like he is watching my every move, like I can feel his eyes on me even when my back is turned.
But there’s something about him that makes me feel so safe, too. Perhaps his large, capable hands, or his deep brown eyes, or even the scars on his arms. Maybe he could protect us – protect me – but I can’t take that chance.
There are things he cannot know…things I can’t let him find out.
Because if he did, if a man like him knew this family’s secrets…none of us would be safe. Especially not him.
Great story line. I thought it was going to be like other security book but it wasn't. Ryder works for Blake security, he has a job where a child has been attempted to be kidnapped. He goes to ask questions when he meets the nanny, a beautiful Russian women Alicia. She is on a work visa so she keeps to herself but when things start to go sideways she knows it has to do with her secret she has been keeping. Ryder wants Alicia to trust him when he says he can help, until things get more difficult she knows she will tell him everything to help. I liked the story Ryder was sweet to his grandmother and even sweeter to Alicia. can't wait to read the rest of the teams books.
The first half kept me engaged and was my kinda story . . . but then it stalled. The second half felt oversimplified without a really engaging climax. It was also a case of instalove without any real justification. Instalove is fine if there is some insight into the characters' feelings and personalities, but lust doesn't isn't the same thing. In this particular instance, the transition just didn't make sense to me.
4 Star Read: Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely well-developed plot. The pretense and romance were well balanced and done with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors, and chemistry. Not so much predictable if at all. Overall, loved it, I recommend reading!!
First things first. RYDER is a standalone, so everyone that is worried about being confused with the plot because they haven’t read prequels and stuff don’t have to worry about this one. In fact, I found it quite enjoyable and I believe you would too RYDER, our hero, is a highly trained ex-Navy Seal who, like many others, is having a little of a hard time adjusting to the civilian life. Who can blame him? After everything he lived and saw, anyone would be jumpy every now and then or have some horrible nightmares. Personally, I think I would have probably even broken apart. However, he is taking things one step and a time and decided to join his childhood friend, who is also an ex-military, at his security company, Blake Security. He expected to work while trying to adjust little by little to be a civilian and keeping an eye on his grandmother, the woman who raised him after his mother abandoned him. Nevertheless, fate always have a second option for us, right? Sometimes even more! When he least expects it, our hero meets our beautiful Russian heroine, Aishe or Alicia. I do believe it was love at first sight, even when he has a hard time admitting it. He tries to be professional but a little ogling and innocent flirting doesn’t harm anyone, right? The problem is that he was called to protect baby Celia Branson, who was almost kidnapped, not fall in love with her nanny. However, everyone in the Branson mansion seems to be hiding a secret of their own, even Alicia. I quite liked RYDER’s character. He was a breath of fresh air at times when most heroes are alpha male who love to boss around our heroines, even when they don’t always listen. However, RYDER was quite respectful when it came to her decisions, even when he didn’t always agree with them and wished she would tell him all the truth in order to help her. He didn’t judge her at all when he found out her past, in fact, it made him respect and cherish her even more. He was quite sweet, protective, and loyal at the same time, but never to the point where you felt suffocated because he doesn’t even want air to touch you. Truthfully, I just felt it somehow the interaction between Alicia and Ryder was a true resemblance of first love, something so sweet and adorable that could turn into passion in the blink of an eye. Alicia was quite a surprise as well. She was a woman deeply marked by her past, but trying to push forward with all her might. Yes, she is hiding a lot of dangerous secrets but she is someone who knows how to love and does her best to try to protect those around her, even when her choices for that aren’t always the best option. I highly respect her maternal instinct, her kindness, and the fact that she grew up to be such a good person even when her living conditions in Russia seemed to push her in a totally opposite direction. For those who love HEAs, well this novel kind of has one. Everyone has a different taste and I would have made a change or two to the ending to make it happier in order to give myself a sense of relief. Nevertheless, the fact that the author didn’t totally make the change I wished for proves that she is trying to give the story a feeling of reality, which is quite good too. After all, the author has to make you believe that everything she writes is true and happened for sure. I highly recommend this novel to any military romance lover that enjoys a little bit of comedy, a lot of drama, justice, and the development of a sweet love taking a step towards a more passionate one. I received a free copy of this book from the author.
Ryder, an ex-SEAL, works for Blake Security. His latest assignment is to protect a child of a rich couple from another kidnap attempt. When he goes to interview the parents, he finds a worried father and a mother who is more bored than worried.
Then he meets Alisha, the nanny. He thinks she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. As he interviews her, he can tell she is keeping secrets. She does reveal some facts that the family neglected to tell him and his boss. He also senses she is keeping other secrets though.
Alisha is also attracted to Ryder but must push him away. She comes from a rough life in Russia and wants nothing more than a decent life in America. She can have no conflict or her Visa will be revoked.
One night, or early morning, there is a loud explosion. Ryder goes to Alisha and baby Celia and gets them to the safety of the pool house, where everyone else has gone. Celia's father is fed up with the attempts on his baby and decides to take the family to their home in Italy. While Ryder is checking the house, Alisha leaves with the excuse of getting the baby her breakfast but Ryder finds her trying to leave the property.
Now he is wondering who the target really is.....
Alisha doesn't want to tell him anything because she fears for his safety as she has come to care for him. Can he help her and have her a part of his life?
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It isn't a full length novel but the writer has managed to give me enough information about the characters for the story to work. Alisha really is a wonderful young woman, a good woman, and you can certainly understand why Ryder has fallen for her.
When you meet Granny, you will understand why Ryder is such a good guy. She raised him when his mother didn't want him and his father having died when he was five. She is spunky, wise and loving and a great role model.
Ryder has done several tours of duty and has seen the worst of the world and war, as has his co-workers at Blake Security. This looks to be an interesting series.
Ryder Grant, bodyguard, a former SEAL, works in Blake Donovan security company. His new job was to protect a baby, little Celia, who almost suffered a kidnapping when she went out to walk with the babysitter, Alicia.
Primary information is denied to the security company making difficult to find out who could be behind the kidnapping attempts. When a bomb explodes in Branson's mansion garage, Matt Branson decides to take the family, Celia and his wife Julia, to his villa in Italy. Alicia, who was from Moscow and had a visa to work only in the United States, couldn't go with them. On the other hand, Ryder began to suspect that the target was not the baby, but the babysitter.
Wanting to discover the truth and intended to protect Alicia, whom begin to nourish certain feelings, Ryder takes her to his Granny home, after Alicia again almost being kidnapped when led into a hotel. Alicia doesn't want more people to die because of her. But Ryder and Blake want to go deep in this case and convince her to trust them and tell them why the kidnapping attempt. While looking for the guilty, Alicia and Ryder are emotionally involved, but before they have any chance of a future together, first they need to dismantle a dangerous society ...
The plot is interesting. I felt no connection to the main couple. In fact, I was more interested in Blake's background story and I can't wait for that. My opinion about this book oscillated like a roller coaster, sometimes I loved, sometimes I thought boring, but in the end I liked even more with the expectation to find out Blake's secret.
Ryder is a former SEAL who works in private security with a good friend Blake. Ryder is a good cajun boy who loves his Granny who is a mad fiend cajun cook. Alicia is the Nanny who has a murky past. Together they made sparks.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it seemed just a little flat to me. The characters, while likable, just didn't seem to connect to me. (Except Granny!) The writing felt a little stilted so I had a hard time 'feeling' it. It is the first of a new series, I understand, so I'm hoping the author keeps getting better. I will read the next one to see, as I do like stories like this.
I don't know what to say about this one, actually. It's not great, but it's not bad. It's just average. I would of liked to feel more connected to it, to the characters. For them to be more close. To feel the attraction between them. It just wasn't there. Except for a kiss or two, nothing happens. There's no passion. Not very impressed with this book unfortunately.
I liked the premise of the story and admit RYDER started out pretty good. Unfortunately, the story was excessively detailed-to the point of boring-and I found myself skimming just to finish. I'll still give book two a whirl. I just hope the editing is better.
I thought the book was interesting but Alicia got on my nerves pretty bad. I thought for sure I would get over it but even with the big reveal I still couldn't stand her. Good story just wasn't fond of the girl.
This is a fairly good read with an interesting storyline, however much more could have been made of this story it had a lot potential but was not developed to its full extent. Really a shame but an okay reads nevertheless.
