About the author

An aviator and author, Cook lived in US from early manhood and became a naturalized citizen in 1935. He served with the Royal Flying Corps. He also directed one highly successful short documentary film, "Wings Parade," in 1942. The making of that film is described in One Man's Documentary: A Memoir of the Early Years of the National Film Board by Graham McInnes.

Not as much combat as I would've liked (I LOVE air combat scenes 😛) but still very interesting because I haven't read much about China in WWII (especially later in the war, well after the Japanese invasion and after the European/American Allies got involved).

Like Bob, I got rather fond of the Japanese commander. 🤭

Written during WWIi, it does use racial terms for the Japanese that were common during the war. In addition, the use of fictional aircraft makes a lot of sense considering it was written and published during the war. Overall, it was well written and enjoyable.
