Jake Hancock Private Investigator series #5 Hollywood-based private investigator Jake Hancock is retired…again. Until Megan Books, a former client and friend, comes back into his life. Megan hasn’t just shown up at Jake’s door to shoot the breeze. She’s got a gig for Hancock. One really personal to her.
Megan needs Hancock to find out what her boyfriend was doing in Hickston, a small town hundreds of miles away from Vegas, the place he said he was for the weekend.
Jake heads to the town, but on the way, he comes across a drugged-out-of-her-mind college-age girl walking by the side of the freeway. She’s been raped. Where? In the same town Megan’s boyfriend visited for the weekend. And the sheriff, according to the girl, didn’t seem too concerned about her rape allegation.
Hancock has two cases to investigate in Hickston. What he doesn’t realize is that the investigating of one of them could be deadly. But which one?
Our Little Secret is the fifth novel in a series of comedic mystery thrillers starring a private investigator so cool, you shouldn't put your tongue anywhere near him.

Yes, I'm addicted to Jake Hancock books!!! LOL I this book, Jake tries to help his friend, Megan. We met her, in a previous book. Jake winds up in a hick town, trying to find info on Megan's boyfriend, who she has just become engaged to. Things go south, for Jake, even before he gets into town. A MUST READ!! Me? I'm off to read the next book!!
I'm not a fan of a lot of cursing, drug use, and sexual activity outside of marriage. That being said, Mr. Taylor is wildly funny, writes well, and has a heart for people treating one another with care and equity. The protagonist is a wonderful and believable character, and I'm looking forward to reading another Jake Hancock story! And seeking penance for enjoying it so much!
A PI who was says he is retired deciders to do a job for an old friend whom he would like to get close with. Then there is the drugged girl who he picks up. His logic is not on track and he finds himself in the cross hairs of the Sharif. The monologue is entertaining and a bit out there. I enjoyed it as a nice weekend read.
This is one of those books that combines humor with mystery. It is easy to read and had several laugh out loud moments. I may have missed something but the story opens with Jake trapped in a portapotty in the middle of the desert. It then goes back in time and the story commences. It ends without getting back to the portapotty.
Jake's hiding from people who want to kill him to keep him quiet, but that doesn't stop him from getting caught up in mischief and mayhem. Even when he tries to do right, so many things go wrong. I can't wait to see what he gets up to next.
This story has humor and still a thread of mystery. The main character Jake was quite a character. The story could have used a little more intrigue. It wad a little too simple.
I have not read any other books in this series but this was light and fun. I quite like the way its written, a chatty style.looking forward to something meatier though!
