Very applicable book! It’s a short read, but powerful. The strategies offered are adaptable, and I already have ideas on how I can use them in my classroom. And that is the very essence for why I chose to purchase this book. I needed some ready-to-use strategies so that I could begin making feedback more useful to my students and creating a classroom culture focused on feedback. I am fed up with wasting hours writing feedback on student work when it’s just ignored. This book is a good starting point. The authors also point out the shifts in work culture: what is most important in potential employees. It’s a complete shift in thinking, and it’s one that I’m ready to tackle. This book is worth your time and money.
Short read with several useful ideas and activities for helping students take charge of their learning. I especially liked the instructional overview sheet. I wouldn't really call it a book about feedback necessarily - it's more about setting clear learning intentions and transparent means of formative assessment and tracking student learning. This book would be ideal for the new teacher who is wondering how to build a culture of feedback in their classes -it is more about how to set up good instruction (intentional learning targets and formative assessment vs grading).
Every teacher should read this book. Makes you ask a lot of questions about some of the practices that we rely on. Is the feedback we give kids for learning or for labeling? Are the grades we give them for their sake or our own? Furthermore, it bounces between the theoretical and the practical, providing readers with a plethora of ideas and resources that they can start using in the classroom the next day. Can't recommend this one enough.
Great resource with some nice activities to incorporate into the classroom to put the ownership on kids for their learning and progress. Comes with links to all kinds of handouts and examples mentioned in the book as well. I would have loved for it to be a bit longer and go into more depth in some areas, but very helpful overall.
Meh...not badly written per se, but just feels like a reframing of the same business management notions that like to pretend there's problems that have solutions other than just improve conditions for people.
