Wolf's Mate #1

Finding Finn

Rate this book
Finn thinks he's not worthy of love. Luke thinks he's destined to be a lone wolf. But once they find each other, their lives will never be the same.

Fresh out of the institution after a failed suicide attempt, Finn's ready to crawl back up and reclaim life. He'll stick to his plan, take the tests, kiss all the butts and get back into grad school. That’s all he thinks about until he meets his new roommate the older, intimidating Luke.

Kicked out of his pack for being gay, alpha wolf Luke sees no way out of the solitary life he leads. That is, until he sees Finn, bent over the kitchen island, and the need to claim him, take him, becomes too much to bear. He'll do whatever it takes to bring Finn out of his shell and convince him they're mates.

But Luke’s alpha essence begins to change Finn in ways he never could have imagined. While the possibility of starting a family fills him with pride, the fear of the unknown, of what it could do to Finn, fills him with dread.

One thing Luke knows for sure--there is no going back, not after finding Finn.

I'm in love with this series. Finn was so vulnerable, sweet and sassy! And Luke was just so adorable and strong. I loved the story, I love this world that we are in, and I can't wait to read about Felix and Sorell. Amazing work by the author. I'm definitely adding her to my auto-buy list. :)

This does nothing for me.

I wish Luke was more of an alpha, like he was supposed to be, and not such a doormat. The bad guys just walked all over him.

And I was really missing some romance. All we got was problems. Nothing seemed to go smoothly.

Cute MM mate book. Luke was absolutely perfect..he was all growly and possessive. He knew Nate was his mate right away even if it was unconventional or so he thought.

I would have rated this higher but there were several things that needed fleshing out a bit more. Overall an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next one.

This story was okay but would benefit from a really good developmental editor and proofreader. The incorrect word usage kept pulling me from the story—not just words like passed instead of past, but words like break instead of brake (put his foot on the break) and the pain was blinding, dumbing (instead of numbing). Duh, dumbing it was. Sorry, but this sort of thing really ruins my experience.

As I said, the story was okay but there was a heck of a lot of gratuitous sex, a lot of talk about a showdown with the alpha of the pack that rules the area, and a lot of secondary characters who didn’t really contribute except for laying the foundation for potential future stories. The talk about the showdown fizzled out when Luke, an alpha werewolf who is the MC of this book, simply clocked the other guy on the jaw and broke his neck. In fact, there were no witnesses, so the matter of whether Luke would or could take over the pack was never pursued. That’s just one example of why I found the story okay. We won’t go into the mpreg and emergency C-Section performed by Finn’s brother who happened to be in the area or any of the other subplots which only served to prolong the story.

Haphazard, weak writing and nonsensical characters who do silly bullshit just because.

"Tonight I'll make you sore."

Could that be any less sexy? At first I thought maybe the author meant "soar", but no... It was... Sore.

"Somehow, his cock hardened... "

Yup.

Somehow.

Oh look! I've fallen down another rabbit hole. This was a freebie, first in a series, and while there are some editing/proof-reading issues, I ignored them.

I quite enjoyed this story, though I could have done without the crazy that was the other Alpha.

I picked this up on a whim, and I would up really enjoying it! Thought that this was a cute start to a new series, although I do wish certain things had been fleshed out a bit more. Like, some things just kinda...happened. And things with being mates and the mpreg just seemed a bit vague.

I'm looking forward to some of the other characters getting their own stories!

Ooops, I read this before seeing that my friends had given this book poor ratings. I love shifter romances and appreciate new authors entering the genre. Unfortunately, the writing was bad. The alpha MC was not dominate enough and played it too safe in his mating with the omega MC and running his new pack. And the alpha was definitely milk toast in handling his unrepentant scumbag father who he allowed to join the pack. The pack acted/reacted like a bunch of high school girls at a slumber party. The sex was good though.

I came here with no clue what to expect, but I'm pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Both Luke and Finn were well thought out characters, and they manage to drive the story forward beautifully. I really liked it!

This was an interesting shifter book to jump into really quick. It gets right into the story and having the men meet, no slow burn here. I liked that there were points of view from both Finn and Luke, so we saw how each felt about their connection. There's also some found family, which is a big plus for me.

The story is so short that everything happens a bit too fast. We don't see the couple take time to get to know each other and the side plot of a crazy alpha is only mentioned here and there and then suddenly it's over. I would love if the author ever decided to go over this series and expand a bit more, but it was a fun read.

This was messy, and it moved so fast I just wished things explained better and not just too abrupt, sometimes we just moved on from topic to topic without acknowledging the last topic.

I really like all of the characters tho especially finn and Luke and also finn sister I forgot her name sorry

New to me author. This is a mpreg contemporary story. Main characters Luke the lone alpha wolf and Finn a human. Great story building and a unique world created for this series. I’ll read more from this author.

I do enjoy a good shifter mpreg and, even more so, from a new-to-me author. The blurb pretty much sucked me in and I was interested to see how Finn and Luke were going to make it work. Not to mention how Luke planned on revealing shifters and mating to a human.

Finn is so sweet and really needs to stop overthinking everything. He's twenty-five years old and still stresses about who he is and why he is. Of course, his graduate program is in clinical psychology and I'm sure that doesn't help. Four months in the “loony” bin, as he calls it, really only taught him to recognize his panic attacks and gave him mantras to use. Granted, Finn has legitimate issues, one being a serious lack of self-confidence, but he's really no different from the majority of the population. Nothing in his entire life has prepared him for meeting Luke, however.

Luke is the ultimate lone wolf alpha. He can't believe it when he sees Finn and recognizes him as his mate. Luke had always assumed because he is gay that there would be no mate for him. He was kicked out of his pack at sixteen after he came out, but now he's thinking he should have listened more when mates were discussed, because for some inexplicable reason, Finn appears to have gone into heat. Huh. This would all be confusing but okay, except the local pack alpha has sniffed Finn out, and this guy is certifiably insane.

A very entertaining beginning to a new series. I enjoyed seeing Luke, Finn, and Frannie, Finn’s sister, make their own pack, adding Daryl, Conner, Sorell, and Pippen. The mpreg and birth were believable, although in my opinion the birth didn't need to be quite that over-the-top dramatic. *grins* The author does a good job on the epilogue leaving just enough hint to entice her readers into grabbing the second installment. Overall, an enjoyable, easy, exciting read.

Omg this was amazing.. I cannot wait for the next story. I loved how Finn was strong and stood up for himself even though he felt so weak and helpless. I love that he had problems.. real problems and they weren't fixed just because an alpha loved him. The mpreg part was amazing and I loved how that came about. I also loved the issues with the other pack and how their pack comes to be.

An engaging beginning to an interesting series.

Another book I've owned for a while and never got around to...so I'm happy with my resolution to tackle more of the books I already own. Got this one for free from the 'Zon and I'll probably read at least one more (Yay KU 3 months for 99c deal!) while the Bachelor Challenge still has "shapeshifters" for the current category.

I wish there was a little more exposition to just how Luke managed to "change" Finn's biology for the mpreg trope; "magic" doesn't cut it when other books in the genre at least attempt an explanation. (Super Sperm?)

Points for the mental health awareness and issues raised, although kinda swept to the side once all the pack drama became the focus and I'm not sure how I feel about how Finn's problems are seemingly solved by having new things to concentrate on. I do like how authentic Finn's chaotic and harmful thought-processes were, and what appears to be cognitive therapy tools to redirect his behavior. Those repetitive "I am worthy" chants were heart-breaking, and Finn can only do that for himself; he can't be someone else's reason for living, nor can those other people be his.

With Luke becoming the defacto alpha now, I'm sure there's more to the story coming - and I'd like to think Finn's going to finish his degree, too? Or at least have more of a role than just alpha-mate and breeder.

I enjoyed this. Finn was working to reclaim his life and future after being hospitalized for a bit. He goes to stay with his sister for a little while, but finds that she has an unexpected roommate. Luke is a werewolf, and Finn ends up being his mate. They get along well, and despite Finn being human, his body adapts after connecting with Luke to become pregnant. This was a great start to a new series, and I am interested in reading more.

there were moments in this book I tell enjoyed and some, not so much. I'm not exactly sure how I felt about Luke through most of it, until the end. It's a great set up story for the rest of the series though.

There's quite a shocking cliffhanger at the end, but it isn't about Luke and Finn and leads you right into Claiming Christian. I will continue the series, probably, but not for awhile

I had been shying away from shifter/mpreg stuff for a while, since it was all getting pretty cheesy, but this one was a breath of fresh air.

Title: Finding Finn
Author: Kiki Burelli
Series: Wolf’s Mate
Genre: M/M Paranormal Romance

Plot Summary:

Finn has never felt like he belonged anywhere, or with anyone - he has always had trouble connecting to the world around him. Recently release from an institution after a suicide attempt, he goes to live with his sister… only to find that she also offered her hospitality to Luke, a hot stranger.

Luke has been on his own, a lone wolf, since he was kicked out of his pack at 16 for being gay. Denied the family and closeness of a pack, he has drifted through life, thinking he would always be alone. Except when his mate shows up in the living room of the house he is staying in. Luke doesn’t know what is going on - he never thought he would get a mate, since he was gay. Or that he would be human.

In addition to dealing with a human mate, who has no idea about shifters, has previously been heterosexual (verging on asexual), Luke also starts noticing changes in Finn’s body and behavior. Without proper education on mating or any knowledge at all on male mates, Luke is in over his head. When the local pack alpha takes an interest in the new phenomenon, things become downright dangerous.

Character Descriptions/Development: 4 stars

So this is where the book differed from the other “fluffy” or just-call-it-porn books out there on shifter Mpreg. There was actually character development. Finn starts out as bordering on mentally ill - he has always been disconnected from society and people. While he claims his suicide attempt was an accident, at the very least it was an attempt to FEEL something. So when he meets Luke for the first time and he feels sexual attraction, it's a huge revelation for him. Developing attraction and feelings for Luke, as well as learning about how his body is changing and his place within the new pack, all help Finn come out of his shell and find where his purpose is.

Meanwhile Luke is totally smitten and alpha-protector of his new mate. He has this sense of wonder, because he always thought he would be alone. It was adorable watching him melt for Finn, but also use that sense of protectiveness to grasp his alpha-tendencies by the horns and lead his pack.

Storyline/Conflict: 4 stars

In addition to the romance aspect, which had its own issues - mainly Finn’s initial hesitancy over getting into a relationship, and then betrayal when he finds out that Luke is a shifter, there is also a suspense element. Luke is technically a lone wolf in another pack's territory. A pack that Luke’s father belongs to, and is headed by an alpha who is pretty much insane. Lucian lost his mate and is now interested in Finn, and does some crazy things to get his attention. On top of that, wolves keep showing up at their door when they hear there is a sane alpha starting a new pack...

Writing Style:4 stars

I was pleased with the level of depth and worldbuilding here, although a few minor editing errors caught my attention. I definitely liked the humor, particularly from Frannie.

“Oh my god. There are eyeballs on my carpet. Whose eyeballs are on my carpet?”

I was impressed overall and can’t wait to start the next one.

Heat: 4 stars

Out of this world hot. Pretty literally, out of this world, since Luke apparently has lubricating and numbing sperm, lol. But seriously hot anyway.

Kisses turned into little nips that left red marks on his skin. He swelled with pride at the sight of the reddened skin. Luke had done that and when anyone else saw the marks on Finn’s skin they would know he was taken and cared for.

I was given this story in exchange for a honest review so here it is....The story line was good and flowing. The characters were well developed. This was a great MM M-preg paranormal story that everyone would enjoy. Finn had just been released from the institution after he tried to commit suicide. He didn't really know who he really was and his purpose in life. His mantra, I am worthy, I am worthy stuck with him. Finn's sister wanted him to stay with her, but when he got there he encountered a man, Luke.... Luke was extremely attracted to Finn, knowing that Finn was his mate. Luke was a lone wolf shifter. His father had kicked him out of his parent's home and out of the pack he was a part of since he was gay. Finn didn't know what to think especially when Luke and he had gotten together for Hot, explosive sex. Finn was a virgin, but this confirmed that Luke was who he wanted. Luke was unsure of the mating process and what it entailed and what they should expect. Finn's body started to change dramatically. At the same time, the Alpha of the local pack wanted Finn..Luke was not having it. Finn was his and no one was going to take him from him. This alpha would stop at nothing to get Finn. Some other wolf shifters came knowing it was safe there. They wanted Luke to become their alpha in a new pack. Luke had a lot going on especially since his mate was pregnant with his child. Will Luke take up his rightful place?? Can Finn and Luke get through some potentially disastrous times to come...Great Story. Highly recommend this read.

Half interesting relationship, half rapid & formulaic shifter plot

This semi-heated, Omegaverse mpreg story starts out strong, focusing on the relationship between a troubled human and a lone wolf. There is a decent amount of Alpha/mating/knotting heat, and some twists away from a typical plot. The second half, however, rushes through a large number of major plot developments, incorporating estranged family, new characters being accepted, and pack threats, most with very little exposition. The plot ideas are solid, but the rapid fire developments of the second half are so skeletal that they don't do nearly as much as they could to enhance the sizzle or relationship development more carefully explored in the first half.

I really liked the way this story built. I loved how it built. I liked Finn and Luke. I only wish there were more details at some points, it seemed like a few scenes were rushed, but I just love details and I hope more will be revealed in future stories. The secondary characters were interesting and the pace of the story was fast. I would definitely recommend this story.

First things first when's the next book out I need it. Warning if you don't like cliffhangers take the authors note seriously and don't read the epilogue.

What a well thought out book, different but not too different. It works well. Shifters, MPreg, mates, knotting everything I like to read.

I can't wait to read more.

Flawed But Fun Okay, I knew what I was getting into and honestly I just wanted to read that was so lite if I stopped reading there would be no great loss. That being said I was able to follow the story, ignore some glaring mistakes in logic, and read this lite story from cover to cover. If you choose to read this check your brains at the door and have fun. Don't say I didn't warn you.
