Find out in Paper.
This was honestly a strange one (which was partly answered by the author’s note in the back of the book): I had gotten it for a book challenge and had genuinely no idea what to expect. The blurb really doesn’t give much away at all as to where to expect this book to be pitched – on one hand it sounds a bit young adult-ey (which I am 100% fine with), though I also saw the potential for the premise to be made into a full-blown thriller.
It was apparent within the first few chapters that it was going to be the former, and while it was a straightforwardly written and easy to enjoy book, there were parts that did come across as a bit silly, like . That being said, the author did brilliantly with making me intrigued as to what was going to happen next, and as such I wanted to keep reading and sped through the book in just 2 sittings. I thought the premise that . Nice message at the end too, with .
The other thing that I wasn’t expecting, and did like, was
This ending was followed by a really sweet note by the author thanking the readers for taking a chance on him as an independent author – which I thought answered my earlier question as to why this book wasn’t pitched very well. I really think it would benefit loads from a more informative blurb and/or better targeting of audience. For the story itself though, I thought Stanek did brilliantly.
I'm a big fan of Stan's "You Are Dead" series, and while I love the zany absurdist comedy of those books, I was happy to see something in a more realistic style. This book has plenty of comedy and even a bit of what you might call madcap antics, but it's built on the foundation of an adventure story. I really enjoyed it.
I liked it. Nice easy read. I can understand why the main characters acted like they did. Minor complaint with Ken so dead set against the money. That got old fairly quickly. Go read and enjoy it. I will be looking for more from the author in the future.
Page turner. The story is fresh and you become very interested in finding the next cauche. The surprise ending sneaks up on you and is the good&bad news! A throughly good clean crime drama with enough real world thrown in just for me. Thanks Andrew. You won’t be able to put this down, I promise. Enjoy!! Avidreader
Ken found out that you don’t tell a girlfriend, that she loves money more than him. Thinking he would be rich now that an uncle of his had died. He left him the house, and a little something in the basement. What a surprise or a nightmare, who could he tell, and what to do with this surprise. Brings us a good plot with a surprising ending. It is comical, and easy to read, as all the author’s books are.
I had to keep reading this book to find out what was happening. It never disappointed me. Buy this book and you will enjoy every minute reading it. I did.
Any one young or older will also gain some insight into themselves and also maybe someone they know. Happy reading everyone.
I really liked this book. It was exciting; a real page-turner! A young man finds out that his estranged uncle has passed away, and even though he had lived with him for years, he was not mentioned in the will. A few days later he learns that his uncle was a master counterfeiter, and had left video clues and fake money all over town. At first, he receives one thousand dollars in twenties and hundreds, then ten thousand, then one hundred thousand... and the game goes on and on. In the meantime, his best friend is kidnapped, a mob boss offers him a deal, and the feds are on his trail. We also meet his beautiful, witty, money-hungry girlfriend. My only complaint with this book is that "all right" is misspelled every single time!
I read this book to an elderly gentleman and he thouroghly enjoyed it ad did I. There was just enough mystery and action to keep up with and the strange twist at the end was great.
What a great premises, dealing with an inheritance of millions in counterfeit money. Ken tries to make honest choices while keeping his girl friend happy. I love this book.
I was given this book by Amazon to read and review for free. A little editing would improve the read but all in all enjoyable and fast to read. Young adults and twenty somethings should really appreciate the book.
I think this book was poorly written, almost as if by a middle schooler. “Facts” were confused from one page to the next, making it difficult to follow. It killed some time, and I’ll never get that time back.
Interesting premise--a family business of counterfeiting and an inheritance of counterfeit bills that leaves the hero in a moral dilemma. The author included solid details about the workings of the banking system and the fight against counterfeit bills. Researching this book must have been fun.
A riveting read, and fun, too. Likeable characters , interesting twists, action, and a mild romantic undercurrent make this book appropriate for just about every reader and every age.
Another great book by Stanek - a departure from his norm, but a riveting, quirky mystery with interesting, relatable characters. Unfortunately, the many typos and grammatical issues distracted my reading.
There were several unexpected developments as the main character pursued the quest, which added to the fun. The main character seemed ambivalent and his friend and girlfriend were quirky. All this made for an interesting story
This book was a refreshing change from the usual mystery or crime novel. The plot was ingenious and I felt myself drawn to the main characters because they were so likeable. I found it very hard to put the book down once I started it. More like this please!
I totally did NOT expect that ending. It was wonderful, emotional and hilarious. I loved it!! It definitely was different. After reading Drake's Law, Wild Sky and now Paper, I'm convinced you can write great books in ant genre you want!
I loved this book. The adventure and puzzles were fascinating and kept me guessing. I kept changing my mind about how the ending would and/or should be. Finally , I think that it was the best ending possible.
Plan on reading more of this authors books. Paper keeps you interested and wondering what will happen next. This is a book you want to keep reading and not put down
This was a great read. It was written by a new author. I enjoyed the mystery which had a new twist. Based on a counterfeiting scavenger hunt it was a fun read.
