Historical fiction about the Yosemite valley, its discovery by white men and how it came to be a preserved and protected land. Some great stories, including true history being made relevant to the story by including the main fictional family, and a pg-13 clean romance (with some plain language and vague on page married intercourse) and a mature attitude that sex is better with formal commitment and love.
Beautiful art and photography. Most by the author or his family members, but a few from historical sources. Highly enjoyable and informative book, though rough to read with some of the content.

Warning - rape, infant death, depression , the story of the Donner party, racism (in a negative light) and many depictions of injuries and death, appropriate to the time period and history.
