Once, in his painfully distant rock 'n' roll youth, Martin had his freedom. Now he's got a family, a house in the suburbs, and no way out. Then one night he meets Jan--the answer to his prayers. But little does he know that his fantasy woman will lure him into a nightmare where pleasure spirals into terror.
After reading one of Ron Dee's other novels, Shade (published under the name David Darke), and hating it, I was pretty sure that this would be another case where the cover was better than the actual novel. Thankfully, most of the rampant problems with Shade are jettisoned. It's a good read if you're looking for something dealing with suburbia and mild elements of horror; if anything, most of the novel plays out like a character study until the last 50 pages or so.
