Let me preface this review by saying I really enjoy Ms. Baumann's writing style. It's engaging and easy to read. However, I made the mistake of not listening to my gut on this one. I had a feeling that I would hate the H and guess what? I kind of did. He didn't really understand the concept of love and was mostly selfish throughout 90% of the book. And the fact that he became a total manwhore after the h dumped him didn't endear him to me either. And he claimed, nine years later, that he'd only ever loved the h, even though he didn't stay celibate and he even married someone else! And up until the point that he needed the h (only a few weeks before the story began), he had a live in girlfriend. Um, no. I didn't believe him and h shouldn't have either.
This isn't to say I thought that the h was great. She was a doormat and brought all of the heartache that occurred in the present day on herself. And what kind of message did this story have? "If the one you love can't devote himself fully to you, settling for the bit he's willing to give you is better than waiting for someone to love you wholeheartedly?" Um, no again.
I've liked all of Mrs. Baumann books. I've read them all and I enjoyed reading them. I really liked the previous one in this series, so I was looking forward to this one. Sadly I have to say that I just didn't enjoy this book. It started out promising, with the H coming back looking for the h, after being separated for nine years. He made mistakes before, choosing his football career over her and that's why she dumped him. So he's back in part because she's a PT and he doesn't trust anyone else to work on his knee after he was injured. And supposedly he also wants to make amends and try to win her back or that's what we're led to believe. But it's not like that. First off, he's a selfish, self centered, arrogant jerk, who only cares about what he wants and what he needs, so he'll do anything to get it. He doesn't really want her back, he just wants her to rehab his injured knee. He even admits time and again that he will choose his career over her. Honestly I was at the 50% Mark and I almost put it down for good because I couldn't stand him! And I didn't like that the h was a little too weak, and wasn't strong enough to stand up for herself. She kept putting up with him. I only kept reading because I was hoping this would be one of this books where the characters realize they are wrong and do a 180 and redeem themselves, but it wasn't the case. Up until the very end that happens, and sure it was nice to see he puts her first at the end but I spent 95% of this book disliking him so much that I didn't enjoy the read. The book is well written, Mrs. Baumann is clearly a talented writer, and I look forward to her next book, but just this one wasn't for me.
I am equally torn between enjoying Jo and Chad’s story… and wanting desperately to smack Chad upside the head with his Heisman trophy. Talk about totally clueless about the signals you’re giving out, and having your priorities a bit backwards. To be frank, I really shouldn’t have liked Chad one little bit given his attitude in the past and the present. Yet there was that “something” that kept me holding back total judgement on this man. I suppose you could say I was waiting for him to get that “aha” moment, and when he finally did it was totally worth the fear, worry and agony he went through.
Jo knew full well that football would always come first for Chad before every one in his life. She’d broken things off when he did the final unforgivable thing, when she knew there was no hope left for either of them in this relationship. Now nearly a decade later, having built a new life, a new career here he is once again sitting in her cafe begging for help in the puppy dog face that Chad had perfected long ago. The answer was No. Not going to go back to the profession and the man who’d given her nothing but heartache. Couldn’t trust him, couldn’t convince herself that she’d really stopped loving him. Just no. But then it always was impossible to say no to this man she still loved.
Perfectly Ms. Matched was a story that stuck in my mind long after I finished it. Yes, I wasn’t Chad’s biggest fan by a long shot but over the course of the story I got him a bit better. He was still wrong, but I understood his thinking better. Jo had such heartache to deal with on many levels. She’s a strong, determined character and one that I also “got” why she acted as she did. In reality it’s so damned hard to tell your heart to stop loving someone when they don’t turn out the way you wanted. Emotions are not logical, talking sense to ourselves does nothing but give us a headache. The bottom line for Jo was that she still loved Chad. Maybe as an older, a bit wiser woman, but the love had not died on either side. Watching them adjust to their new selves was an adventure.
I firmly believe that Perfectly Ms. Matched is that story you’ll either enjoy or want to throw at the wall. I don’t really think the middle ground on this one is very wide. I believe how you perceive Chad will make that difference. I enjoyed myself, even while not always liking Chad. He is a man who has become so focused on his football career that he truly is clueless about the rest of life in many ways. So yes, how you view Chad will probably made the difference for you in this story.
I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I found the lead male character too obnoxious and narcissistic to like but the story was ok
Pro athletics is not a very good lifestyle or conducive to long term relationships. Despite the professed “love” between the two main characters, the real life chance of forever with these two would be slim. Lucky it was a novel. As I read this, the preservation of their relationship was less interesting, but then it became a train wreck that one had to see the end of. I didn’t care for the book but I can see why some would.
Love, love her books. I really really need to read the next. I don't like admitting i am addicted to these stories just because it's 2:30 a.m. And I have to be up in a few hours well ill gottA start the next in the series! You will love her stories..I promise
This story was kind of a continuation of the first one in the series, making it even more enjoyable as some of the main characters were already familiar. I know, beyond a doubt the everyone who rreads it after reading the first book in the series will just love it as I did. Now, for me, it's on to book 3!
Super read..enjoyed the characters, with all their wit and their flaws made them real to me. Thanks for making me smile along with Jo and Chad, and their families.
I liked the concept but i just couldn’t connect with it and it had me rolling my eyes in a lot of places. I’ve liked other books by this Author so I might try the next in this series to see if it gets better.
I enjoyed this book. Adults acting like adults. I know. Most HEA are full of major drama high school drama. Not this book. Good storyline. The characters are slowly being introduced for the next book in this series and catches you up with the people in previous books.
another book from Tamar Baumann, the first one is LOL, Shelby and Nick, they are interesting couples. now the second goes to Jo and Chad, talking about their second chance after nine years.
Jo's her problems, too stubborn, and got serious hurt when Chad left her and never seiing their new born. Sorry that the new born left them forever.
Chad, a man who always thinking about his NFL career, he did it to left his family, lover, sons alone. When Ryan said he will leave him like his monther, Chad just proved it Ryan is speaking the truth.
You know we are the one who carries different duties and roles, friends, mom/ dad, daughter and son and ..... i want to be the mom like Jo's adoptive mom and Chad's mom, they are given the uncondition love to their kids and family.
Football season is starting and what better way to celebrate than with a football romance. Yes, the hero is a very good player, but his skills have cost him more than he was prepared to pay. Now Chad is at a crossroads in his life. An injury to his knee requires the help of his ex-fiancee and physical therapist Jo. But will she help him when their relationship broke up because he chose football over family? Can she forgive him? Can he learn from the past? A light-hearted romance that deals with some difficult questions.
This was a nice follow up too the first book. There is certainly room for another story. The first book was about Shelby and Nick. While Nick ius not involved, Shelby is an important supporting character. This plotline has restaurant owner/Shelby's best friend getting reacquainted with her former fiance and pro football player. The plot had great ups and downs ands the author has an enjoyable style.
