Written in a sarcastic, sometimes humorous tone, this books shows how academia (or "academe" as the preferred term in the book) has not changed much in the last 50 years. Whether it relates to natural sciences, social sciences or humanities, the author conveys a simple and accurate picture of how to navigate through the academic system, and end up a "prestigious scholar". Sadly, it also shows how blatantly sexist academics (mostly men) were in the 70s (at least).

Satirical take on academic life that disturbingly, still has some resonance after being written in 1970. US-centric. Painful but darkly entertaining if you and wince through the moments when the line between parody and reality seems to fade...
