For as long as Daeron can remember, every day has been exactly the same. The poor dumb beast lives in a dark, disgusting pit. He decides to keep the tiny creature as his pet and he cares for it just as best as he can. Amelita Rae took a wrong turn on the internet one day. All the innocent young lass wanted to do was watch funny cat videos, but then she discovered Boy's Love and that was the end of any worthwhile contribution she might have otherwise made to the world.

She now spends most of her time writing filthy smut that she tries to frame with farfetched plots and deranged characters, but don't be fooled by her bullshit people, its all just smut.

ummm… why was this so good??? omggg!!!

this little novella had:
• copious amounts of monsterfucking! 🐉
• a love story.❤️
• gory scenes.
• lots of action & fight scenes.
• hot kinky dirty smut!!!👀
• a satisfying revenge story!
• ✨actual magic!✨
• an unexpected plot twist!
• a beautiful, hopeful ending.🥰

i’m actually pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed this!

the way Daeron (the monster/dragon/shifter) was so possessive and protective of his human… absolutely iconic!!!

Daeron would burn the whole world down and literally eat Anaire’s enemies to make him happy… a man who eats your foes for you??? goals 😌

the way Daeron called his human “his pretty little thing” or “tiny creature” or “his pretty little mate”…🥺

also, the fact that a lot of this was written from the monster’s point of view was great. some of the thoughts Daeron had were straight up hilarious.

highly recommend this novella if you’re into any of the things i mentioned above!

This is a very hot and surprisingly sweet monster romance.

Going into the details of this story would kind of ruin it if you want to read this, so I'm not going to do that.
All you need to know is that the book begins with a confused, inarticulate, lonely and imprisoned monster who is suddenly joined in his cell by a lovely, beautiful little human. The monster is immediately protective of him, and feels a lot of affection for him.

Which follows afterwards is not only a development of the relationship between these two, but also of the monster's psyche, memories, feelings and power. We truly see the monster grow into himself throughout the story.
However, I do wish the relationship would have had a little more depth. That was definitely missing for me, and could have quite easily been rectified since the chemistry and dynamic between them was really good.

About halfway through, a lot suddenly starts to happen, and the focus goes from a bit more centred around the monster and his feelings to more magical and paranormal stuff.
I definitely preferred the first half, but I could see a lot of people enjoying the second half as well.
This novella really has a bit of an actual plot instead of only smut, which might not be what some people would expect going into it.

There is hardly any dialogue in this novella, so if you hate inner monologues, you'll probably despise this.
In my opinion though, the lack of dialogue really worked here, and I thought it was very interesting to see how the monster was constantly obsessing over his "pretty little thing", but also how his way of thinking drastically changed over time.

I would definitely recommend this to people who are into stories featuring love between different species, fated-mates, and an overly protective and caring love interest who would do anything for the one he loves.
It also has a bit of non-consent, but it's a bit more complicated than that, since intentions are unclear between the two.

Overall I thought this was a very sexy, interesting and cute read.

*4.5* This was such a good MM, dragon/monster shifter story! For as short as this book was, it packed a HUGE punch.

Begins with a giant monster in captivity.
He kills because he does not wish to be killed and he eats because he does not wish to die.
A man is dropped into his dungeon.
Pretty little thing, he thinks to himself, turning it side to side so he can admire it.
The monster is instantly taken with his new little treasure.
He is looking forward to having the little thing around for a long time. He has been alone for so long in the dark that he has forgotten what it’s like to have company.
This story has magic, gore, a fighting pit, hurt/comfort, lots of steam and dragon tongue kink. And yes an hea.

I enjoy unique stories so this was catnip for me. Big thanks to Iman for pointing this one out to me!

TW: there is an off-page rape and descriptive gore.

Holy monster/magic/non con/smut perfection!

What did I read, how have I not read this author, and how in the hell have I not read monster smut before?! I have been seeing this author on my feed and the reviews are…mixed. There are a lot of interesting themes to her novels so I get it, but when I know what to expect I can handle a whole lot. This was absolutely a case of that.

This little novella packs a punch! There’s actual plot you guys and it was, dare I say, compelling. Did I want more to this story? Yes. Was I happy with what I got? Absolutely. I would say that the mark of a good novella would be to leave me satisfied and wanting more. I’ll definitely read more from this author and leave my morals in the drawer where I normally keep my vibrator. 💁🏼‍♀️🔥

I really liked this one! The story was written in a very clever way, in that it slowly revealed itself as it progressed. It was very intriguing and I read it in one sitting!

I found the sex in this one super hot, probably because its mainly rimming and Ms Rae sure can write a rimming scene! Oh but be sure, it's still absolutely filthy :-D

He squeezes the globes as he parts them and more cum squishes from Anaire’s red, busted hole. It’s absolutely filthy. He grins in delight, then leans down and drags his tongue across the sloppy mess between his mate’s legs.

There's cross spieces rimming as well, which I found hot!

The HEA was nice and very unbelievable, but you can get away with it when magic's involved...and when Rae writes it.

Such a cute and fluffy monster story. Told like a fairy tale and just to cuddle away, how lovingly Daeron deals with his "pretty little thing". Hours after reading this, I'm still grinning like a silly idiot.
The story is told mostly from the monster's point of view and there is hardly any dialogue, but it is so fantastically written that you don't miss anything. It's just perfect.

Pretty little thing, he decides, looking at his bare bottom. It’s round and smooth and looks like two round pearls pressed together. Daeron can’t remember where he has seen pearls before, but he has. Pearls are treasure and Daeron is pretty sure this little golden thing with its small pearly bottom is treasure too. - Oh my, this is so cute, you can't even categorize it. 💞💞💞

“I told you to stop! Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s rude to lick somebody’s butt without their permission??!!” - Well, now you know which direction the smut is taking. 🤭🤭🤭

To all the lovely folks who have been recommending me reading Amelita Rae, my third eye is finally open.

This is dedicated to you.

I just about loved the entire thing. I could quibble about the length (greedy me--would've loved more) vs. (rational me--the length is perfect). But I won't.

It's yaoi romance with great writing. (I know, I know, where have I been? Under a rock, apparently.) Of course, it smutty but the plot is pretty neat-o. We start with an abused beast/kept prisoner; the reader not knowing who or what it is. All we know is the torture of being forced to fight and entertain the "Watchers" in an arena. The pain and gore and then the beast is kept in a pit once it serves its purpose.

It's a bit gruesome. And one day he saves a slave. And thus begins this awakening for the beast and the human, his precious "little" man.

Obviously, there are other reviews that spoil what the beast is. But I appreciate what the author did. And though it's smutty (lots of rimming...with fun appendages *wink wink*), there was a plot. And revenge! And magic!

It was already 5 stars for me and then I got the bonus: KNOTTING.

Pretty much cemented it was a winner for me. I'm a fan of Daeron and Anaire! Lovely couple with spunk! (Pun intended)

so that was a thing i read. 💀 been on my TBR forever and decided to just go for it. i loved it and i love the whole bonded/fated mates bit.

Daeron is a beast of some sort whose existence centers around an arena and his pit. his senses are dull and time has blurred. he spends his days in darkness, with sleeping and eating as his only pastimes until he's forced to fight for entertainment, never knowing how long he'll have between the gladiator style showdowns he stars in. he is not content, but any feelings he would have, including those of loneliness and anger, have long since passed.

a light is shown in his bleak existence when a small blonde man is thrown into his pit without warning and Daeron catches him, saving him from splattering against the rocks of his home. forgotten feelings and memories stir as his fascination with the tiny man grows. they spend days together in the pitch black, Daeron doing his best to take care of his new little thing with limited resources... in particular, the tongue baths he gives to his new doll.

Daeron is a terrifying humanoid beast, but the new prisoner doesn't succumb to his fear and the two bond in an awkward way, especially after witnessing Daeron fight to near-death so he could return to his little doll and continue protecting him. eventually, Daeron's true nature is revealed and he's able to exact revenge on the ones who harmed him and his dragon mate Anaire.

this was an untraditional steamy and sweet novella. there are some dark themes obviously since both mcs are imprisoned and Anaire didn't find his way into the pit for a cuddle, so there's some graphic descriptions but generally the cuteness overrides it. 4 stars for the monster fuckers 🐉

This is actually a reread for me though I never recorded having read it the first time. I was inspired to reread it by Nark’s wonderful review. (Warning: If you’re a picky purist, Nark’s review is slightly spoiler-ish so bear that in mind before clicking the link.)

Prisoner is super smutty, kind of kinky, dirty in multiple senses of the word, bloody, violent and gory. Definitely a monster fuckers dream! 🤩 Truthfully though, I do not consider myself a monster fucker 😉😆 and there’s some dub/non con, so it’s a bit out of my comfort zone. That said, I remembered having enjoyed it despite my mixed feelings and decided I’d dive back in because it’s a quick read and I wanted a refresher.

So yeah, once again, mixed feelings, slight discomfort and hesitation due to the previously mentioned themes. Still, I enjoyed the basic plot and the general dynamic between the MCs (read as ‘the parts that aren’t smuttastic’ 😆) for the first half of the story. Which isn’t to say I didn’t like the second half, but I’d forgotten the second half and I guess I wished for… 🤔 … I don’t know… something deeper… something more complex in the evolution of Daeron and Anaire’s relationship and bond. Plus the ‘ownership’ and possessiveness Daeron felt toward Anaire, to me, bordered on entitled, toxic masculinity. I would have enjoyed the second half more if that element of Daeron’s attraction and bond had evolved into something less primal and red flaggy, although the way it is fits the story so *shrug* it’s a me thing.

No rating because I think it’s a great story for what it is even though what it is is somewhat out of my comfort zone.

If you KU and/or enjoy some super smutty, gross and gory monster fighting and fucking, go for it!

Love and hugs y’all 💛 with extra shouts out to Nark for reminding me of this creepily adorable and entertaining morsel 😘

Prisoner was a short very sweet story about a beast who falls in love with a tiny human. Daeron is a monster who doesn't remember his former life except now his days are filled with loneliness and death. One day a tiny human is being dropped into his cell and instead of letting it fall to the ground he decides to catch him. Anaire is that tiny human who is a slave and who has been through so much. I loved how Daeron protected Anaire and took care of him. Although Daeron is a large beast, I love how Anaire stared to care for the beast and when the betrayal is reveled, they were able to escape. The ending was super sweet, and I loved how they were finally free.

A gorgeous story of a beast transformed by love. I loved the writing here! I thought the story was very inventive and not just a beauty-and-the-beast rehash. A tiny blonde treasure falls into Daeron's pit and suddenly he is having feelings and remembering things that have been denied to him for years. The "tiny thing" has spirit and sputters indignantly when Daeron-beast discovers that he loves to lick and clean him all over. There is some slightly weird dub-con involving the beast's licking; it works within the place and time that they are at and is intended as a caring, tender gesture. This licking, oral desire carries through the story and forms the basis of some of the sex play between the two. I mention this because there is a scene of felching and some people are squicked out by that. I normally would be but, because of their earlier roles, it seemed somehow a logical extension of things. The story is a great combination of magical, loving, and sexy with a very nice writing style to back it up. This just happened to catch my eye while scanning Amazon and I tried it with KU--I immediately bought it for future rereads. I look forward to checking out some of her earlier works!

2.5 stars, TLDR version: solid, mysterious, compelling beginning, promising serious tale, then kinda dull, then kinda quick, then ridiculously quick. but funny. not sexy because I was laughing too much. I do recommend the story for its astounding creativity with words. And the "seriously?" laughs.

Asslips. Pffft.

Okay, so this type of fantasy smut gay story is amazing... when it's told via manga, done by, say Naono Bohru. In a novella form, it loses power.

I expect more development with more words. Especially after I'm sucked in at the beginning with promises of a compelling, more serious-type tale. The illustrations of a manga bring their own unique brilliance and power; that's part of what makes the oft abbreviated development of a manga work okay. Inspires the imagination. Not so with a novel. I needed more. I was left disappointed. The story I wanted was flashed before me and then whisked off the table. In fact, the bones of the story could stay exactly the same--it was all the explaining away and the insta-crap in the last quarter that made me lose transportation and commitment.

Did make me laugh at some wordings, though. Wrecked Asslips. Errrr... wut?

I loved how this was mostly from the monster's POV. I can see why Anaire's was added towards the end, but it would have been nice to just keep it with Daeron's, or it should have had more in-depth to it from Anaire's side with going through what he did and everything.

Some of the language was just awkward. I can give some allowance considering beast, but... It just threw me out of the story.

This definitely could have benefited from being longer, or less sex and more on page development. The last third of the book was just so rushed, and almost like the first thing that happened to Anaire when he was tossed in didn't happen at all. This seems to be a common thing with Rae's stories. Not necessarily a bad thing but I'd like it fleshed out more. Definitely good for how short this is.

I'll check out more by this author going into them with the above expectation.

Daeron's eye peeks open to check on it. He can see its chest rising and falling rhythmically. It is curled up against him, fast asleep. A warmth steals over Daeron's heart, another strange feeling.

Daeron curls his hand protectively over the little thing, even in his sleep.

"There is no more powerful magic than a Dragon’s heart, given freely."

I saw this gem of a novella reviewed by Nark and decided to pick it up for a quick read. It was surprisingly thoughtful, passionate, emotional and magical. I loved the element of magic, the unexpected twist at the end and of course the fact that dragons were involved.

I thought it was brilliant having this story told mostly from Daeron the monster's POV. It added an element of intense intrigue and attachment as we the reader went on the same journey with Daeron to rediscover his strength and power. I loved seeing Daeron begin to understand his intense obsession and protective instincts for his little golden mate.

And the small one that caught the monster's eye was such a delight to read about with his fiery, accepting and caring nature.

I can't forget the monster smut in here because that was like a prime steak - perfectly charred. It was kinky and dirty that's for sure. If you like MM reads with a heavy dose of monster smut and a HEA, then definitely give this a try.

This was being recommended for gentle giant and major size difference and people weren’t wrong!

It definitely has borderline noncon/dub-con towards the start but things progress and it’s really hard to say anything without ruining the story, but basically I kinda wound up loving this? 😂

This little book packed a punch. It was sweet, slightly sexy, and sort of funny all at the same time. I would have liked more and that says how much I liked it. I don’t want to give any spoilers because this book does have a few twists, but even if those events closer to the end never took place I would have still had my favorite parts. I loved the MCs initial interactions and listening to Dayrons mind as he put memories and ideas about his precious little thing.

Edit: I checked out the audio after because the narrator was new to me and it was great! It really added to the story.

3 stars. This was so cute despite the darker tone and themes. I really enjoyed it but this is one of those instances where I think this would've been better if it had been longer. It's a very interesting and unique story that reads almost like a fairytale. For what it's worth though, Rae does a great job with the characters, their relationship, and the world building in such a short amount of pages. Also, there's great smut in this but I've come to expect nothing less from this author.

I enjoyed the slow reveal of the world-building as the short novella went on, but I think the graphic non-con in the beginning really turned me off and even made me want to quit until I skipped to the last few pages to see if it ended up as anything interesting. Additionally, the smut scenes were a little blunt for my taste by describing everything quite clinically. As other reviews noted, the story really packed quite the punch in its 80-something pages, but overall, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Side note: I was super confused when the writing referred to one of them as a virgin and his "first time" when the story made it clear that something had happened (non-consensually) before the two MCs met. Just a slight nitpick, but it didn't take away from the writing.
