God Hammer

God Hammer is the name they call Chris, the main character, because he is so bad ass! He is part angel and ?, or all angel? He has power to spare, he brought an asteroid down on a building once so everyone is a bit terrified of him. This is Declans first full time job with Chris and vamp wife. He is making a quantum computer...where it goes from there...you just have to find out here!
Love the action, fantasy, the imagination, and craziness that ensues!
The narration is spot on! Perfection!

I agree with the rest of the reviews I have read: I don't know why this book was called God Hammer since it was basically all about Declan. This story had a bit of a different format. Previous books were either told from Declans point of view or Chris's. One book would be about Declan, and the next book would be about Chris. This book breaks that mold by having both Declan's and Chris's point of view in the same book. This might have been a good idea because I really like both characters, but it wasn't pulled off well. Each chapter would switch between Chris and Declan. It might have been better to switch the point of view to every 3-4 chapters instead of every chapter as it got a little hard to keep track. Also, even when it was Chris's point of view the focus always seemed to be on Declan. Comments like " How crazy powerful is that kid?" or " Can you believe he did that?", all this coming from the God Hammer, the supposed most powerful being on the planet?
The enemy in this book wasn't witches, demons, werewolves or any other supernatural threat, but the development of AI? With a series about supernatural threats, that was a little hard to believe.
Overall though, for me it is all about the characters and I continue to really enjoy them. I like the possible romance for Stacia, I was feeling a little sorry for her to be spending all of her time around Chris and Tanya, wanting him but knowing deep down she could not have him. She deserved something for herself.

I agree with the rest of the reviews I have read: I don't know why this book was called God Hammer since it was basically all about Declan. This story had a bit of a different format. Why call a book all about Declan "God Hammer"?
Disappointed... I enjoyed the book and I love the series but this book isn't what I've been waiting for. I wanted to see what happens next for Chris and follow his story line. This book, even that chapters from Chris's point of view, is all about Declan. Why is it even called God Hammer. Chris doesn't even fight a demon at all this book. He doesn't fight a vampire or a were... Most of the book we watch him watch Declan be awesome. Honestly, the book would have been fine if it was called something else.

This series is fast paced pulp UF. The world-building is a bit simplistic and the plot and story are full of tropes and flaws but none of them really hurt the series all that much as the characters are (usually) a likeable bunch who are easy enough to root for and the story itself is engaging and fun. It all has the feel of a fun action B-movie and tends to hold my attention from start to finish.
This instalment was pretty fun. Declan went to work as a summer intern at Demidova Corp. That resulted in a split POV with Chris and Declan as co-leads. I think that worked pretty well for the story. The story itself was pretty fun with an out of control AI as the main villain! I also enjoyed the developing Declan/Stacia relationship.
All in all this was a fun instalment of the series. I’ll press right on with the next one.

2/3 Stars. I love this series but a couple of minor gripes.
WHY IS THIS CALLED GODHAMMER?
I enjoyed reading this series as always but it didn't seem up to John's usual standard. It also seemed Chris and Tanya's characters were incredibly reduced for the only purpose of making D look good. Their only real purpose in this book was to sit back and watch D do stuff none of them can, even the POV's of other characters seemed to revolve around him and everybody else being amazingly ineffective, i enjoyed this book but not as much as i could have and there is a lot happening that's fun to read but I am a little confused as to why this book is even called God Hammer?
D's powers have improved by leaps and bounds to the point where he is basically as powerful as Chris if not more so and his back story is virtually the same, even his harem is starting to evolve faster than Chris's haha. ;)
I enjoyed this book and the Demon Accords world is ever expanding and evolving in new and exciting ways, i will continue to read this series but i must admit i do miss Chris & Tanya being center stage. I enjoyed previous Books with D's POV but this just did not have the same impact with me as usual.. I just couldn't feel the Declan love this time.

I thought this was okay...I dunno, I went in expecting a Chris/Tanya story. Got a Declan instead..the parts with Chris felt almost like filler - don't get me wrong it was still a good book, but I'm not the biggest Declan fan so for me it was just okay. Fallen Stars and Forced Ascent were so good...I'm waiting for that magic to come back.
Still contains all the great action of course, and Mr. Conroe continues to give us solid forward moving story with a few reveals at the end. Not a fan of the whole Declan/Stacia dynamic...but I'm probably in the minority on that one.
I see the next book will focus on Stacia, I'll give that a read...but it almost feels like we are moving away from Chris/Tanya focus. I like the cast of side-characters, but for me that's what they are, side-characters to my boy Chris and his vamp Tanya.

I just couldnt get with this book. I cant help but think that Declan is to strong. Come on. Chris and . Tanya were shoved to secondary characters as well. And dont get me started on Stacia. She has turned from being a strong female to a weak have to be saved by Declan. I cant like they're relationship because they are being thrown together for convenience of a were witch relationship.

An excellent addition to the series.
I liked seeing Declan continue to come into his own.
I liked seeing Declan gain a couple of new friends.
I would enjoy seeing Declan take some time to be a teenager. Instead he is totally consumed in helping the team and being a superhero with a microscopic ego.
Caeco seems to be evolving with an interesting Internship.
The sky is the limit for the series. But, like all addicts the wait for the next fix is hard,

i liked it but compared to the other books this one has less twists and i wanted more about chris than decklan.

I only learned yesterday that this series has become my most anticipated series out at the moment. Within minutes of seeing a post on Facebook by the author saying it was out I had it bought and there was a huge smile on my face right up until I finished reading it in the early hours of the morning.
The two main first person protagonists in this series, Chris Gordon (The God Hammer) and Declan O'Carroll (The worlds most powerful witch) share the spotlight in this novel. It is written in alternating first person chapters that would have annoyed me if I favoured one protagonist's story over the other. The thing is that I have so enjoyed both of these protagonist's journeys to date that I found the alternating style of writing to be exciting and it propelled me through the novel at pace.
In this book they work together against a rogue AI that is using the the world's technology against them. Considering both of these characters are seriously overpowered super beings you would think that Mr Conroe would struggle to create a sense of danger in his books but once again he proves he has the imagination and the ability to constantly up the stakes to a new high.
This story progresses the series nicely. Almost all of the story arcs take a big forwards step and some interesting new developments get introduced that I am excited to continue reading about in the future.
Any problems then? Well not really.
The writing does continue to have a few grammatical, spelling and sentence structure errors at times. Also there are passages in the book that are either a bit too obvious or cheesy which could have done with a bit of editing. But these are common issues in a self published book that are so easy to overlook as they don't have the huge editing and publishing teams behind them. On top of this those issues are starting to become endearing and are adding to the charm of this series so I find myself actually beginning to like them.
Overall this another great addition to this already awesome series. I used to classify these books as guilty pleasure reads but when I have given every one so far a full 5-star rating I don't see that I can any more. These are just truly awesome books and John Conroe is definitely one of my favourite authors at the moment.
I can't wait for the next book to see what Mr Conroe has in store for this series.

Confusing POV's, frantic pace and a surreal ending
If you are reading this review, you are obviously fully committed to this author and this series, as am I. That said my head is still spinning after a marathon reading session. My first impression was an uncomfortable confusion resulting from the head spinning POV changes. It's not just that the chapters often overlapped too closely, it's the fact that the two main characters are basically the same in most every respect. They have the same background, super-super powers, motivations, personality, hang ups and self deprecating styles. Their internal thought processes, dialogue and actions are so similar, I found it difficult to discern which POV I was reading at any moment. There seemed to be only one voice in this book, when I think there are supposed to be two.
The pace is also frantic. The main characters are constantly badgered, bloodied and on the defensive. Chaos reigns supreme. There's very little time for our heroes to reflect, be normal for a few minutes or even enjoy their hard won gains. Oh, we do get to see Chris' sword again. It might have been more thrilling if we knew what it was, why he has it, where it comes from, or why he doesn't just use it all the time. It would seem like a good thing to have around.
The ending might as well have been painted by Salvador Dali. Although it seemed possible to deduce what was going on, there really was no evidence to support any conclusions. We're left hanging from multiple cliffs. I suppose it gives the author quite a bit of leeway in determining the course of his next book.
The editing was pretty rough. I caught over 25 obvious errors.
Nevertheless, it's still a great series., and this was a fun read.

This is the best book in the series for me, I loved all of it. I'm starting to like Declan more than Chris.
I never really liked Caeco as a love interest for Declan and I hope to see more of Stacia and Declan together. Maybe Declan can help her a bit in the next book?
Is Omega trustworthy? To me it looks like Sorrow is somehow connected to it. Will Omega listen to Declan or is Omega in controle over the nuclear launchcodes it seems to have taken from the goverment (or the whole world, cant recall atm). It also knows that the president is hunting for it. Just how far will it go to protect itself and/or Declan from its/his enemies?
Poor Chris, how will he handle Tanya's hormonal moodswings?
Cant wait for the next books!

Continuing my reread of the amazing Demon Accords series.
Summer break is here and Declan reports to Demidova Corp headquarters to begin his internship.
This book goes back and forth, alternating chapters between Chris' and Declan's viewpoints. Including Declan feeling his way around the big city and his dealings with the job and the other interns.
There are new attacks from the now identified government entity, witches, ghosts and a religious kook who may or may not actually be a servant of God.
Great character interaction as I come to expect from Conroe's work and a guest appearance from some of Declan's friends from College Arcane

He is getting good.
Conroe's characters used to be one-dimensional, his writing amateurish, but his stories and imagination made the books compelling nonetheless.
But he keeps improving his writing. His characters have some nuance now, and his plots get more intricate and pretty, worth a re-read. And the writing is getting surer, more even.
In a pre-self-published world, he would never have been able to publish God-Touched. But College Arcane and God Hammer would be publishable anywhere.
Now he just needs a proofreader.
Conroe's characters used to be one-dimensional, his writing amateurish, but his stories and imagination made the books compelling nonetheless.

Fantastic
This was a great read. It was a split book between Chris and Declan but all set within New York mostly. So many mind boggling thing happened not only in events but relationship as well. Some characters I was hoping to see more of didn't appear much but other than that I had a lot fun reading it. Good thing he already has started the next book because with how thing wrapped up at the end of this one you'll be crying for more....like me.

Holy shit that ending was insane. Declan is absolutely awesome and Chris and Tanya are back for this book and I love them both. Full review to come.

Okay, that was pretty good
I had thought that Forced Ascent was the beginning of the end. Glad I was wrong.
God Hammer unites the two story lines into a single narrative and I'm liking it. Now if John Conroe can just keep from echoing any more FOX news and Breitbart talking points we might be golden.

So, I love Declan and I love Chris - put them together and what does that spell? AWESOMENESS!!! Declan is now interning for Chris and Tanya at Demidova Corp, and danger lurks around every corner. I loved the way the book was in alternate POVs between Chris and Declan, so we got to see more facets of what was happening. Once again, I was yelling at the audiobook in my car every time someone tried to destroy my heroes (which was a lot!), a sign of an awesome book! Once again, the book was narrated by the amazing James Patrick Cronin, but please Mr Cronin, you HAVE to work on your Aussie accent LOL Although in saying that, very few non-Aussies can pull off the accent well, so you're in excellent company. I wonder if Americans think we Aussies can't pull of the American accent... I wouldn't be surprised. But I digress... this is an awesome book, and well placed within an excellent series.

I've started reading this series when it began focusing on Declan and the School of Arcane. Then I backtracked to volume 7 when Declan was introduced. I just finished this volume that continues Declan's journey in the Hammer's life. Like the stories I've read so far, this one is intriguing, fun, adventurous, and satisfying. I expect you to enjoy it too.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the previous installments. I feel like the series is losing steam with much of the same elements being repeated over and over again.

The ninth part and once again it brings much joy, but also annoyances. This book switches its POV between Declan and Chris, tho Declan is the real protagonist. The whole action revolves around him. He is the key to stopping the AI, the center of the witch plot, the focus of the the romance elements, all around solves pretty much every problem the team has and out-smart-asses even Chris. Our dear protagonists treat the warlord, that basically solos the defense of the planet in this part - while they do whatever - as a kid who needs to be supervised as he is potentially unstable and a security risk. As if Chris didn’t have a demon blood induced dark personality and Nika doesn’t constantly mind check him.
On the other hand Chris‘ part is almost… boring. We barely have any romantic moments between him and Tanya anymore and all his actions get controlled by politics. A malicious AI tries to kill him and his team on multiple occasions - lets try to talk to it. A demon kills kids and insults the vampire race - lets focus on the political implications. Dont get me wrong. It absolutely makes sense that he needs to mind his public image, but it‘s not really as much fun reading it anymore - or least not compared to, say T and C time as rovers for example. The fact that Declan is basically Chris 2.0 doesn’t necessarily help the fact that Declan clearly steals the show. „Hammer of God“ is not a fitting name for this book.
On a different note I did notice some of the conversations felt weird. For one the meeting in which C and T tried to keep Declans identity secret and then continued to describe him in such detail that no room for doubt remained or D‘s interview about the sexual role of male witches in front of Stacia.
On the positive side I greatly enjoyed Declans parts. His power are innovative and interesting. His personality also makes him a great protagonist - like Chris but more sassy and smarter. His budding relationship with Stacia was also a nice touch.

Chris and Declan together - another great edition
I loved traveling back to the world where Declan O’Carroll and Chris Gordon live. The story is told from a dual point of view - Chris’ and Declan‘s. This is the 9th book in the urban fantasy Demon Accord series. I love that Chris’ and Declan’s characters, despite each having unique overwhelming powers, are still sweet, a bit naive, modest, and awkward men which makes them very likeable heroes. Declan is a very powerful male witch which is an anomaly. Usually only females have power. Male witches may have a tiny amount of power. Chris is a Angel who has taken human form to fight demons. Chris’ Chosen (girlfriend) is also an Angel and the most powerful vampire on earth. In this book, during his break from college, Declan is working as an intern in the Demidova Corporation which is owned by Chris and Tanya. As the story progresses, the team continues to fight evil including the newest evil, an AI that has gone rogue. Most of the characters from the other books are in this book as well. There are also a number of new characters who are introduced. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. I will definitely keep reading the series to see what evil beings and plans are thwarted by Chris, Declan and the rest of the crew.

I've not been very good at leaving a review of this series which I have been listening to via audible since January, however I want to make up for it now. These books, whilst not exactly a literary masterpiece, are the exact description of what I look for in a book. Pure, lose yourself, totally absorbing entertainment. Some of the books had a slightly better plot line than others and it took me a while to get used to the voice of Declan, Chris being such a favourite of mine. However God Hammer really put them up there in equal place for me. I didn't have any trouble switching between the 2 characters after the first couple of chapters and they felt different in tone to me. Now that Declan is growing and developing he is very different to Chris. This book was probably one of the most complicated of the plot lines yet and at times there were so many attacks coming it was hard to keep track of.
Truly excellent escapism that I highly recommend for fans of the supernatural, not quite sure what I will do when I catch up with the author in a couple books time! My drives to work will just not be the same.
