Jutta is a Berlin-based midwife who has delivered babies all over the world. She runs a birth preparation course in Berlin (free if you're on a public insurance) called Happy Birthing Days at her practice Elements of Birth as well as online. This is the companion guide to her course which I borrowed from a friend who had Jutta as their midwife. I read this book before my partner and I attended her workshop and even though I felt really prepared for birth, I found attending Jutta's workshop and reading this book to still be highly beneficial, as is often the case when you read books written by really experienced birth workers. Maybe it is slightly biased as I really warmed to her personally but with so much fear surrounding birth it is really important to feel as empowered and educated as possible going into birth - this book assured me of that. This book focuses heavily on positive birth psychology and hypnobirthing techniques, drawing on Jutta's decades of experience delivering babies.

A Must-Read for Expectant Mothers and Birth Partners

Happy Birthing Days is an incredibly empowering and insightful book that every pregnant woman—and her partner—should read. Jutta Wohlrab brings her vast experience as a midwife, combined with techniques from NLP, hypnosis, and yoga, to create a comprehensive guide that goes beyond just the physical aspects of childbirth. She offers a deep understanding of how the body works during labor while also focusing on the emotional and mental preparation needed for a more positive birthing experience.

One of the things I loved most about this book is its practical approach. Wohlrab doesn’t just talk about birth in an abstract way—she provides clear, actionable steps to help women feel more confident and in control. From breathing exercises to movement techniques, relaxation methods, and mindset shifts, she covers everything needed to approach labor with a sense of calm and trust in the body’s natural abilities. She also includes great advice for birth partners, making them feel more prepared and involved in the process.

What sets this book apart is its emphasis on choice and empowerment. Wohlrab encourages women to release fear and embrace birth as a natural, even joyful, experience. Her positive and reassuring tone makes all the difference, reminding readers that birth is not something to be feared but something to be embraced.Whether you’re a first-time mom or have given birth before, this book provides a fresh, encouraging perspective that can transform the way you approach childbirth. It’s informative, inspiring, and filled with wisdom that makes a real difference. Highly recommended!

A birth preparation book to help understand how to be ready for childbirth is valuable for both partners (be it the first time or second). However, I am of the opinion that Juta does share the same information in her class and it is a lot easier to follow the instructions specially for the breathing and other exercises.

Giving 3 ratings, as I am personally a person who prefers to go through the appendix and know the reference when someone states any research or study - which I feel is missing from the book.

A guide on how to think about, prepare for, and handle a birth. Jutta offers lots of techniques like breathing, meditation, and mindsets to help you cope with the difficulties and joys of birthing. She also does a good job dispelling myths and misconceptions around birthing.
