IMO Blue Guides are the best but they don't publish any on South America. An editor there recommended Footprint, so that was plenty good for me.

Having read Machu Picch (Wonders of Man)http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15... just about any guide book will be a disappointment.

Though heavy to carry around on the steep uneven steps of the Inca sites, this offers fine and thorough information.

Didn't actually use this guide. Lonely planet was way better.
