I was blown away by this story. The depth and character development was exceptional. Alice and Ivan have a history that was once a beautiful thing until they were separated. Now, Ivan has returned and he’s determined to consume Alice in every way possible and keep her as his own.
I loved how determined Ivan was to make Alice his. Nothing was going to make him leave again. And there were reasons he could very easily have left. Then, between one moment and the next, he sacrifices everything for her and holy heck! This is true heroism.
Alice lost herself years ago after Ivan left and she was struck by a tragic event. Since that time she has moved through life rather than living it. At this point, most heroines find themselves because of the love of the hero but that isn’t the case here. It takes something much more to set Alice free and I loved the telling of it so much.
This has a great pace to it. It doesn’t repeat itself and each page holds new information, new adventures and new trials for this couple. The heat level is off the charts as this couple sets the page on fire! This is a wonderful paranormal romance with lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing, gasping, and even shedding a tear or two. Definitely one to check out if you like your PNR a bit out of the ordinary. This one is a true original!

I’ve been a huge fan of Ms Paul’s work since I picked up Dubious from NetGallley back in 2017. I simply love her books and the fact that we’re guaranteed a strong intelligent female character. Not a hint of stupid in sight. Her men are always ruggedly handsome and delicious.
Plus I’ve been loving this series.
But…
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I didn’t like this one. It’s by far my least favourite book of hers. I’m kind of in shock really because I didn’t expect it.
I struggled to get my head round the resulting drama from the split nine years ago. And the sex to story balance was out. I know, I know what’s wrong with me?
Ms Paul’s books are hot, steaming but there’s balance. Here it was just off for me. But maybe it is me, all other reviews are glowing so… we’ll put it down to me not the book. In which case bring on the next one.

The emotions in this series are só intense,and Necromancist reached a whole new level of intense with Alice and Ivan…..
What Charmaine Pauls puts these two tortured souls through?
The twists and turns she throws at them?
Let’s just say they deserve a VERY happy after!
I’ve been waiting for their story for a while,so i was very happy to see the ARC that landed in my inbox.
Giving an honest review is easy….i loved it!
Alice and Ivan have known eachother for a long time,and once she believed they were meant for eachother.
Until Ivan took her virginity and then walked out the door…..
Shortly after,her mother took her own life and her father left her.
She spent the following 9 years trying to survive the heartbreak,and build some sort of a life for herself.
And then he returned….
Ivan spent the last 9 years building a life that would be good enough for his Princess.
After her father forced him to leave,he was determined to return as soon as he reached his goal.
Being a Necromancist,he’s used to seeing the spirits of the dead,so he’s not surprised to get a visit from one.
What this spirit tells him,though….that is!
And he knows he needs to go back home,back to Alice.
The chemistry is still very much alive between them,but even though she admits she still loves him,he can’t seem to say those words to her…He dóes admit she’s the light to his dark,but love? Alice is torn between her love for him and playing it safe with Henry,the man that offers her a marriage contract.
But being with Ivan and his brand of kink,makes her feel more alive than she’s been these past 9 years..
In the meantime,the spirit of a serialkiller is telling him he needs to work for Godfrey,and if he refuses…something precious to him will suffer the consequences.
Each day,more and more spirits start haunting him,and the only place he finds peace is with Alice
And then he gets another warning from the spirit that sent him to Alice,urging him to contact her father.
She calls him,and once Cain and his team arrive,everything starts to make sense,starting with the spirit that sent him to Alice.
The threat is still very real though,and it will take a sacrifice to prevent Alice’s death….
Finally,Cain understands Ivan ís worthy of his daughter.
And finally,Ivan knows he dóes love Alice.
But it’s too late now….right?
Because he knows what he has to do….
Ivan and Alice’s story put me through the wringer,and it hurt,só much.
The evil that’s after Ivan and his powers were determined to get what they wanted,and the only solution to stopping them was heartbreaking.
Knowing what i know now,i can say that even though Charmaine made me curse,scream and cry,she still made all of that worth it in the end.
And in that end she healed my battered heart,giving me what i needed most of all.

This was a fabulous addition to the series and I enjoyed it so much, as usual, this was very well written and I am really enjoying this series as a whole. There is an ongoing story arc running throughout so to get the most out of this I do think it's best read in order though these are new characters so it could technically be enjoyed as a stand-alone as well. This actually felt more paranormal than its predecessors I think mostly because Ivan is a necromancist so this had more of a spooky feel to it with all of the ghosts and all. It’s sort of a second chance romance but because we only experience Ivan and Alice’s past as it’s being told to us rather than in real-time it felt less so. A positive for me as I’m not a great fan of that particular genre.
So this is set nine years after a tragedy that shattered Alice Jones life abandoning her own dreams because of bad associations she is now working as a publicity officer for a theatre. When the theatre contracts Ivan Kray a famous singer with a temperamental and crazy reputation to headline Alice’s past and present collide turning things upside down and complicating everything.
Ivan and Alice have a past one where she feels he abandoned her after claiming from her what he wanted whilst he has a whole different take on the matter. There’s a lot of miscommunication with this one and Ivan is definitely a stubborn man when it comes to admitting to his own feelings. He feels the darkness inside has taken away his ability to love not only lying to Alice but also himself. I wanted to scream at him in frustration as he claimed to only want to possess her but couldn’t love her it was just so bloody obvious to everyone but him and of course Alice.
This one was read hot in the heat department. The chemistry between Alice and Ivan projected off the page and was scorching in its intensity. Ivan is possessive and obsessed and totally brings the goods the sex between these two was bloody explosive and gave me absolute chills. There was danger and heat forgiveness and sacrifice this had a bit of everything and easily managed to keep my attention with its rapid pace and intriguing storyline. We also get to reacquaint ourselves with past characters who also make appearances here. Just when I thought I couldn’t like this anymore than I already did Ivan totally pulled it out of the bag and had me tearing up big style when he makes the ultimate sacrifice all in the name of his love for Alice; talk about a grand gesture.
This series just keeps on bringing the goods and I love how different each instalment is there’s none of this same old formula then rinse and repeat each book stands on its own merit showcasing its own individuality and I love that about this series. I totally recommend reading it every book delivers. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Necromancist (7 Forbidden Arts #6)

~5~ Rock stars from me!!
The anticipated sixth installment of the series, the words that can describe this beauty are Unique , Suspenseful , Steamy and of course as always full of twists . Honestly a rock star Necromancist, Revenge, Secrets... What's not to love??
I was sucked in the plot from page one and certainly couldn't guess what will happen next, the author did an amazing job combining all these elements together the human with the paranormal supernatural world and all the words i mentioned above.
The uniqueness of this story won me from the moment i read the blurb, the characters are very bold and you can easily fall in love with them especially with Ivan..this "crazy", hot rock star with the mystery/dark vibe believe me you gonna love him...well i have to admit that sometimes i wanted to get in and slap him or shake him but that's the icing on the top cause afterwards you like him more.
His traumatic past and of course HIS BIG SECRET are blow minding i mean well NECROMANCIST bring back dead people?? Speaking and controlling spirits..just wow what a power and what a burden he's carrying, but the most important thing in all these and behind the curtain of the heartless man.... "Love is for people with heart. I don't have one." he hides his weakness for Alice the woman who left behind after some painful events and misunderstandings, he thinks he can't feel anymore, well i say Alice welcome back to our lives..
As for Alice well she has a very strong personality, she is a fighter and surely an independent heroine but she lives in the past as well cause she never forgot him and the pain he caused her, she may have moved forward but her heart and mind never did or will do, in addition now these feelings will intensify cause here he is in front of her cause her fate and job twisted things and brought them but together.
One of the things that is really interesting besides the other ingredients, is the dialogues between our characters sometimes it was fascinating and some others hot and steamy (you know what i mean). I'm pretty sure when you read it you will definitely laugh, grin, feel sadness, stay with open mouth and miss a few breaths i'm saying that cause that's what happened to me . Furthermore for the fans of the series, previous characters will appear....I'm so excited when this is happening!!
I could say much more for this suspenseful, paranormal romance story but i don't wanna spoil anything I totally recommend it i hope that you're gonna love it as much as i did and as for me i honestly can't wait to read the next amazing installment.

I love me a really good Paranormal Romance - especially if it has a her that checks all the ass-holish tendencies but is also protective and possessive with his woman!
This romance was not only unique, but also suspenseful, full of character that I have grown to love, angst that pulled at my heartstrings, chemistry that was not only steamy but delightfully heartwarming - this book hit all the sweet spots for me!
Ivan Kray is the rude, obnoxious Hot Rockstar who has all the fame and money in the world, especially considering he is coming back to exact revenge on a girl who left him broken; add to the fact that his hand is being forced by the dead man visiting him and threatening that very girl? Yeah life is all hunky dory. Did I forget to mention that he is also a Necromancist?
Did I want to slap him or even shake some sense into him? Sure. That was what endeared him to me. But his traumatic past and his current bleak view of himself and his life were what made sure that my loyalties lay with him almost throughout the book!
Alice Jones is only coasting through life - sure she has a good career, but she lost her heart to the one boy who stomped on it without even giving her a single thought or so she thinks. She knows that there is a side of the world that exists but isn't really interested in that side for she knows that it involves her father and she doesn't really want anything to do with him!
Alice and Ivan are about collide withe each other, but will they ever survive their collision?
As I said, this book had everything I adore - characters who irritated me, yet I loved them whole heartedly, a plot that had me clutching my iPad in edged desperation and writing that pretty much rocked my world - except these characters NEVER COMMUNICATED ANYTHING WITH EACH OTHER!!! *UUUGGHHHH***
Oh they talked - about what happened 9 years ago but NEITHER OF THEM LISTENED to what they other had to say!! I had hoped it was a one time occurrence, but darn if they didn't do it again! And again!!
And that was the only blip on otherwise a beautiful and brilliant romance - there is action, romance, suspenseful intermixed with an amazing plot!

Honestly, call me what you will but this was without a doubt, delay, or second thought my absolute favorite of the series!!!!!! I was having trouble picking a favorite before starting this book but hands down Necromancist is mine.
I have had tears running down my face for the last hour or so. I even sent the author a message stating my grievances. I may have been premature, maybe not.
This is a second chance paranormal romance. Reunited in unusual and not even close to ideal circumstances, Alice and Ivan are fighting for more than indifference.
Tasked with helping promote Ivan's new show, Alice clings to false nonchalance. But Ivan didn't come all this way to let her fake anything. He also didn't expect their complications. Trying to win back the only woman that matters should be easy but not when gift hunters and the dead are chasing you.

You will know the sad, the happy, and what it is to be loved while reading this heartbreaking story. Somethings are predictable - some relationships and some people. But then there are plenty in life that aren't.
Loved this book. I highly suggest reading the series. Though you can read anyone as a standalone, they are best in order. You gain far more background inform the characters.
(As I look back on this, I shake my head. I typed this after going on an all night readathon. I started the book yesterday morning but only got to read for an hour. Late last night I picked it up again and read straight through until 4:30 this morning. I had to go back over it to see if it made sense.)
It's a beautifully crafted tale that will force you on an emotional rollercoaster. You won't be able to get off before the ride is over. So sit back and enjoy it!

Oh dear lord......this was one breath taking read !!!
This was book 6 in the series and seriously I could wax poetic's ALL night about how awesome the story line is. But really its one of those, you'll have to read it yourself to bask in its glory !!!
The tale features Alice and Ivan and we have a little break with their love affair where these two love birds are estranged from each other. The reason is part of the tale, what I will say it that despite there being years involved......their reconciliation is worth the wait ;0)
Moving on swiftly......Adding in that Ivan is a MEGA HOT Rock Star......can this story get any better ?. Er Yup, it can. Ivan has this amazing paranormal ability.......be still my beating heart......wait Ivan could probably sort that out for me as he can (drum roll) raise the dead !!
Alice, oh hunny you are just too sweet and completely in love with Ivan. I was glad she could see past her hurt and learn to trust him again, giving him that much need chance.
Love reigns, Loss occurs, Secrets are revealed and Passion ignites..........Check, check and check for my essentials to a damn fine read !!

Necromancist by Charmaine Pauls is the sixth installment in the
Seven Forbidden Arts
series that features characters who are more than meets the eye. Combining both paranormal and erotic romance, the story was action-packed, emotional, suspenseful, and full of steamy moments between Ivan and Alice. Although I was frustrated by their lack of communication, I was still invested in their relationship and wanted them to resolve their issues. Their love was angsty and will certainly pull at your heartstrings because the depth in which Ivan wanted to possess Alice was all encompassing. Ivan was a broken man and even though I wanted to shake him for having such negative thoughts about himself, Alice, Cain, and the world, I also understood where he was coming from. His bleak perspective was a product of his own upbringing—one where he never truly had a home and lost everything when Alice left him.
Ivan Kray was such an interesting and contradictory character. He was obnoxious and dominant but also passionate and obsessive. Alice was everything to him and he was unwilling to let her go, even when they have been separated from each other for nine years. This need to possess and own her was prevalent throughout the book and made for some frustrating but also steamy moments between the two. In addition to the romance, Ivan also has his own secret—one where he is a necromancist with the power to manipulate and control the dead and living. This power has attracted the attention of the main antagonist of the series, Godfrey, who will stop at nothing to obtain it. Alice Jones is the daughter of Cain Jones, the leader of the paranormal task force who has been featured many times in the series thus far. Their relationship has been strained ever since he walked away from her life following the death of her mother. I would describe Alice as empathetic, emotional, insecure, and loving. Despite being hurt by Ivan in the past and present, she continues to love and care for him.
In the end, I enjoyed reading Ivan and Alice's second chance love story even when it frustrated me at times because they simply could have talked to each other instead of resolving it through sex. Don't get me wrong, the love scenes were smoking hot and extremely sexy but I could see it becoming a problem when Alice begins wanting more for herself. Ivan was in denial with himself and didn't believe he was capable of love after losing Alice the first time. He never thought he was good enough for her and kept placing her on this pedestal when in reality, Alice had loved him in spite of everything all along. This book actually reminded me of the author's earlier works, The Astronomer because the two main characters had a lot of misunderstandings and didn't communicate with each other very well. However, I was completely satisfied with Alice and Ivan's relationship by the end of this book. I highly recommend this series to those who have read and loved Charmaine Pauls' stories before as well as those who love a possessive and "bad boy" hero who will stop at nothing to protect and obtain his sweet heroine.

Necromancist (Seven Forbidden Arts 6) Charmaine Pauls

Firstly, even though this is #6 in the series it is a standalone and a damn good lengthy paranormal novel.
I seriously loved this book. Oh Alice and Ivan where do I start these two, they are so broken each in their own way, tortured by their pasts which are so very different yet so similar.
This story has the perfect balance of hot rock star romance, seriously hot steaming chemistry and unique paranormal elements mixed in with a good gritty storyline which kept me hooked all the way through. I did however, feel myself questioning the Alice and Henry situation - I'm still unsure as to why she would give him the time of day ? also without giving too much away I felt the final twist that transpired later on was different - but for me personally, slightly spoiled the story hence my rating dropping from 5 to 4.
Having said this, I did really enjoy this book and would highly recommend for any paranormal fan.

This book had so many amazing elements peppered through out its pages ; Passion, Intrigue, Danger, Mystery, Love. I usually do not read Paranormal novels, however the plot drew me in and the PNR elements were so unique and different that I am so glad I read it. I was hooked from the beginning.
Ivan a famous Rock star is sexy, mysterious and hiding secrets. Alice the woman who has held his heart for years is one strong feisty woman. She too has loved Ivan for years. When the reunite after years apart, passion explodes, heat level rises and danger lurks.
With witty, and at times steamy banter, these two will have you invested in their story from the moment you begin reading. When secrets are revealed what will happen to them? Will Ivan be able to protect Alice from the dangers surrounding them ? Will they get a chance at love?

What can I say Charmaine is the BEST! Necromancist is book 6 in the Seven Forbidden Arts Series and was an excellent read. I have read all the previous books in the series but you can certainly read this one as a standalone.
This book finally provided the much needed background information on Cain Jones. We are introduced to his daughter Alice and to Ivan her long lost love interest.
Ivan is a Necromancist with a lot of issues from his past that continue to hunt him (no punt intended)
I do feel that the story could have done with a bit less drama between Alice and Ivan the characters had a bit too much internal disagreements that could have easily been fixed by a bit of communication.
With that said the book was filled with twists, turns, lots of steamy scenes and some serious nerve recking suspense.
I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to all you paranormal fans out there!

this is the story of Ivan and this is the story of Ivan and Alice who were high school sweethearts and thought they would be together forever. However things don't work out as planned and they are separated for quite a few years. When they get back together however it's as if no time has passed , only his heart is now locked away. Ivan brings out the best of Alice while also pushing her sometimes quite forcefully which I did not respect or enjoy reading about. To me there's a fine line between being basically a dominatrix in bed verses being just a total jerk in life. however Ivan slowly makes up for it. the ending is not one that I saw coming mainly because of how much time passed however it was a great read. I love this author's work she continues to amaze me with each and every book she puts out.

Rock n’ roll meets Phantom of the Opera…Necromancist by Charmaine Pauls is so much fun!!! Like the few other books I have had the pleasure to read in this series, Charmaine Pauls does a superb job writing characters that are sexy, witty, and let’s not forget…have paranormal powers.
This book is definitely not for everyone due to the many sizzling hot erotic scenes, but if that is your cup of tea as it is mine, then you definitely want to check this book out! 'Holy heart failure, Batman!'...they are that steamy.
Necromancist can be read as a standalone but because characters from the previous books play minor key roles in the story, I highly recommend reading them in order. I unfortunately have not taken my own advice but after reading several books in this series, I think Necromancist just might be my favorite thus far!

This book was just as good as the others. If anything it was more soul searing and dramatic but what do you expect from a Necromancist? Once again Cain is hoping to draw another of the gifted into his team, however Godfrey, his enemy from the beginning is trying to get his hands on Ivan also and will use Alice, the love of Ivan's life and his reason for being to get what he wants. Will Ivan do as Godfrey wishes and kill Cain and his team to save Alice or will he join the team and save Alice and destroy Godfrey? Read this book to find out what happens. Love, drama and a great story awaits you in this 6th book of the Forbidden Arts Series. Cannot wait to see what happens in the last book.

Non stop, mile a minute story. I love the unexpected turns and the intensity between the protagonists in this novel.
We see and hear more about the big bad of the series, and the necromancy creates very different challenges compared to the other elemental arts.
This novel left me with more questions, and curiosity about some of the new characters we meet. This story has me fully hooked into the series and I can't wait to read more!

Alice and Ivan. What a couple! And who knew that Cain Jones had a family?
This story broke my heart; I never saw it going in the direction that it ultimately did, but in my opinion, Ms. Pauls made the right choice. It was beautiful, devastating and ended up in a surprising and well deserved HEA for Alice and Ivan.
This series is Paranormal meet Action meet Romance. I most highly recommend!

Charmaine has the ability to make you "know" the characters in her books and this one was no different.
The Necromancist really kept me captivated until the end and is definitely my favourite in the series thus far and I can't wait to see where Charmaine will go from here!

This book was amazing. It hooks you from the beginning and draws you in. Be warned that you will need to have a box of tissues handy. Alice has lost a lot in her life. Ivan has had a hard life. What do they have in common? Love... with twists and turns you will e on the edge of your seat until the end of this book!

I gonna tell you right up front that I am a big fan of this PNR series. I feel like there is a satisfying air of freshness that really makes the series compelling and addictive. Just in case you are unaware, this is a series that should be read in order to get the very best reading experience and the most reading pleasure from it. Now, as for this book specifically...I absolutely adored it and it is now officially my favorite of this series. Ivan and Alice's story sucked me right in, shot my temperature right through the roof, had my heart aching and left me swooning. A skillfully crafted combination of raw emotion, taut drama, nerve-wracking tension, fierce intensity, blazing heat, spine-tingling danger and sweet heart is brutally potent, utterly decadent and supremely delicious! I thought this book was AMAZING! This is my independent, impartial review.

Okay this was an interesting add to the forbidden arts series and why might you ask? This actually has a focus on the male instead of the female. I like that its a haunted rock star who is just lost in the abyss of it all . This is also a second chance romance many years after the fact we started with two love sick 18 year olds who seperated on a misunderstanding and then they were hit with tragedy. It could have been better truly and then it would have been my favorite of the arts.

Necromancist is the 6th book in the 7 Forbidden Arts Series and must be read in sequence to fully enjoy the journey the story takes you on.
Alice, who is Cain Jones, estranged daughter never expected to be reunited again with her childhood sweetheart, the now famous rock star Ivan especially since he broke her heart when he suddenly abandoned her 9 years earlier. What Alice is not aware of is that Ivan is back to claim her, protect her and make her his come what may!
Their attraction towards one another was off the charts steamy and their journey to their HEA was suspenseful and had the right amount of paranormal.
It was wonderful to be reunited with the task force again and see how happy and fulfilled their lives are.
This was a great addition to the series with the beginning and end thrilling and interesting, but I found because it was a long read it dragged a bit for me in the middle.
I am excited for the next instalment in this wonderful series.

Wow. This is my new favourite in the series. I loved Alice right from the start. This book shows a new side to Cain. This book took me through both highs and lows. It kept me on the edge of my seat. There was so much angst between Alice and Ivan. They are perfect for each other but their pasts are painful both apart and together. We got to see the team again as well as some past figures. Another brilliant story. Can't wait to see where its going next.

I thoroughly loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding paranormal romance story. Alice's heart was broken years ago by her one true love, Ivan, and now he is back in her life. Alice wants love, romance, marriage, and children, but Ivan tells her he is unable to love again but wants all of her back in his life again. Meanwhile, someone is threatening Ivan's life through Alice. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully recommended, riveting story that engages the reader from the first page until the last page of the story, and a must read love story.
