Reviewing this book would be like reviewing economics itself because it presents economics in its true sense. It lives up to the title and presents Indian economic development after independence underlining the strengths and challenges. However, most of the chapters were very general, so i couldn't gain much knowledge. The book is easy to read as it is made for high school students.

The book is good for basic understanding if Indian economy, but it is largely outdated as the reports and data given is of 1990s and 2004.

But for broader outlook of economy it is a good book
