Five years before the events of “Isolated”, experience the most dangerous operation of Jason King’s turbulent career...
A drug gang has its production facility buried deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. Sensing that law enforcement are closing in, their mercenaries storm the U.S. embassy in Lima, Peru, taking three American hostages back with them into the jungle.
The next day, government black-ops operative Jason King lands in Iquitos. A single-engine plane will fly him into uncharted territory. He will skydive from 14,000 feet into the rainforest, armed to the teeth.
He will retrieve the hostages, at any cost.
It doesn't take long for all hell to break loose…
Hard Impact is a standalone action-thriller, delving into the case files of Black Force soldier Jason King.

Million-copy bestseller Matt Rogers is a prolific thriller author intent on blurring the lines between hard-hitting action and mind-bending philosophy. An avid runner and mountain trekker, he leans on real world experience to craft edge-of-your-seat thrill rides with staggering plot twists. His breakout novel, BE SOMEBODY, was lauded by IndieReader industry professionals, who praised the "impeccable writing" and "air-tight plot construction." Kind of mixed feelings here. The premise behind this series interested me, but I felt a little off by the bland vanilla writing. I am an action junkie so I thought I would give this series a shot, and picked up 3 of these titles for like $0.99 each (or free).
Maybe I am a bit jaded but it just seems to me the author was a little too generic on this. Some readers are put off by too many details on weapons and tactics, but I kind of like those. Don't overwhelm me, but show me you/your character know your stuff. Just got this feeling that Matt just did a little research and went off from there. I question the way that some of the things were handled, like using names over the radio instead of call signs. Don't keep telling me that your character is Johnny Bad-Ass, show me with deeds and actions that your character did to survive. Jason King was okay, but he did pull off a couple of dumb moves that got some soldiers killed. And the author just knocked off 4 Delta operatives like they were rookies.
Still, the ending was very exciting (except for the quick dismissal of the Delta soldiers) running thru the jungle. I will probably check out the next Jason King book: Isolated just to see if the story style improves.
I got this novella free for signing up to the fan club and as I’d read the synopsis of the first novel, thought I’d give this prequel a go. On the whole, not a bad intro to Jason King, the action is thick and fast and set in the lush amazon rainforest. King is sent to retrieve 3 hostages and as you can guess things don’t quite go to plan.
A little bit formulaic at times and the odd bit of slightly frustrating repetition but I did enjoy this and I’ll certainly be giving the first full length novel a go next. It did feel to me like the author got a bit bored of the short about 75% of the way in and rush the ending. I also didn’t like the fact King is a delta operative and the colleagues sent to assist him who were also delay were taken out far too easily.
King is a warrior and I’ll be interested to see how his first full outing goes.
A short book, but entertaining nonetheless. Only goes to show it's not the size of the thing, but how you use it. Jason King is dropped into hostile territory and there is not a dull moment. The tension is taut like a guitar string and boy does the story thrum with the promise of violence and thrill that gets delivered blow by blow.
There might be some issues of repetition in the book, but the story moves so fast that you won't notice them unless you were looking for them.
It's a quick read. I read it on my phone and I just could not stop reading.
Will be checking out the rest of work by Matt Rogers next.
Jason King... what can I say about him? A "routine" rescue ops goes south before it even begins but instead of resetting things, he continues on-mission with little hope of backup or recovery.
No one in his right mind does that... but they're not Jason King. This is no walk in the park; Jason screws up a few times and nearly fatally so for him but his fear of the bullet he won't see coming energizes him and it's the only time he ever feels alive as this spells bad news for a small army of drug producers deep in the Amazonian rainforest.
This is part of the story of "King and Black...". The author like to use phrases and words that you'll connect with the main character. But, this is more of a hang up, the "displacement, the same mistake, etc". The author support his character all the time.
KING is a ethical and brutal..too much on either way and is unbalanced. The development of this series needs a strong revision
Jason King is a great character in Matt Rogers military thriller series. I so enjoy these type of series. Now am going to read the fourth installment of Jason King. Thanks, Matt Rogers, please keep them coming!!!! Amarillo Turtle
This was a prequel of the Jason King series. Matt Rogers is an author that never fails to keep us readers turning the pages in anticipation of all-out action.
Fantastic now ive read all the jason king books although not in the correct order but were excellent anyway. Looking forward to more of Matt Rogers books, not sure if there is any left i havent read.
I really enjoyed this book it's taken me awhile to wrap it up, mostly because it's very detailed and high action driven and then my addiction, to contemporary romance, intruded, lol. Look forward to the rest of the books in this series, so glad there are more!
A prequel to the main series, detailing one of Jason King's missions while in Black Force. Sent in to rescue thee hostages in the Amazon, King leaves a trail of destruction, as he attempts the impossible.
Unlike other series I have read which tend to loose their way or become repetitive as the series goes on this book continues to be an exciting read. Highly recommended.
The story line was beyond believable, even for the super hero Jason King. Too many bad guys killed off too easily. No snakes, biting insects, etc. In the jungle? Should make a good action adventure movie. Just don't let Tom Cruise get cast as Jason King. He was not believable as Jack Reacher and would be less believable as Jason King.
Jason is still involved in "Black Force" and he's on a mission to Peru, the rainforest, with out any on-site human intelligence. All he knows is there are three Americans being held as hostages by the local drug lord, his mission, get in, get them out, leaving the bad guys all dead if possible. Jason is captured, held, and watches two of the hostages be murdered by the drug lord. Yet, somehow, he brings out the young man, wipes out most of the drug lord's men, and his compound while taking out the drug lord as well. This was the mission that ended it all. You can read all the details and gain insight into who and what Jason King really is. Might want to read this one first. Great story and the action is swift and quick as well as deadly.
In this novel, the story of Jason King's background gives the reader an over-the-shoulder view of his experiences in the deep, dark Amazon Rain Forest. Jason King is a government black-ops agent who arrives in Iquitos, Peru. His mission is to locate a drug gang who has kidnapped three embassy workers and taken them into the massive rain forest. After skydiving from 14,000 feet, he lands in uncharted territory searching the location of the drug gang known as The Phantoms. It's a one-man mission and his search is not easy. This novel is extremely well written with short sentences and short paragraphs. The story line is compelling. It's a fast read you won't want to put down.
Matt Rogers delivers another edge of your seat, nail biter action thriller. My newest here, Jason King parachutes into the Amazon jungle in Peru to rescue three hostages from a crazed drug czar. This man is a machine and thinks like a computer...no better person to have at your side when the going gets tough. Highly recommended!
Great job Mr. Rogers! Keep em coming!

A MR. Jason King Prequel (JKSB. - 0)/South America
MR. has. penned the prequel to the Jason King series, which contains a mission to a South American country riverside some young orople. The mission is fouled up from the git. go. JK. parachutes into the South American jungle and before the mission can start all hell.-o breaks loose. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHD
It's a simple hostage rescue story. In which most of the hostages die. Jason King is off to the rainforest of Peru to save 3 Americans kidnapped from the US embassy by local drug lords. The rest of the story follows King's mission in the Jungle. An average thriller with little story and mostly action. But that's how Matt Rogers all books are.
Another Jack Reacher like character who is off books, doing good while trying to stay alive. A loner who is highly trained and a likeable character. Great writing from this new author to me.
There are wheels within wheels. Organizations within organizations and units within units. Plausible deniability. Always forward, operate and move to live. Good start if the other books are of this quality.
Not a bad read. As seems to be the case though a lately in these hero type black op novels. Too many scenarios are a tad far fetched. Enjoyed it tho overall
