Locked safely away in Shepherd’s nest, Claire is unaware of what stirs above ground. Her time is occupied fighting a war of another kind. Due to her mate’s relentless exploitation of their pair-bond, the nature of their link has grown consuming to the point that Claire has difficulty differentiating where her feelings begin and his end.
Under its influence, she’s forced to sense the man behind the monster. She can feel the truth of his terrible history. Claire can see the source of madness that drives Shepherd to do such terrible things: Svana.
His mate is desperate to open his eyes, but no matter Claire’s progress, Svana is not yet done with him.
Thólos is coming apart at the seams, and Shepherd’s men can do nothing to stop it. Real war is coming, and unless the Alpha tyrant is willing to pay the ultimate price, everything he has sacrificed will have been for nothing.
Reborn, the final installment in Addison Cain’s bestselling Alpha’s Claim trilogy, is a dark Omegaverse tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. This is not your typical romance with an HEA. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.
USA TODAY bestselling author and Amazon Top 25 bestselling author, Addison Cain is best known for her dark romances, smoldering paranormal suspense, and twisted alien worlds. Her antiheroes are not always redeemable, her lead females stand fierce, and nothing is ever as it seems.
Deep and sometimes heart wrenching, her books are not for the faint of heart. But they are just right for those who enjoy unapologetic bad boys, aggressive alphas, and a hint of violence in a kiss.
OMG. I am so upset. This book did not have a feel good conclusion, this was honestly so sad. I'm still so shocked by that ending.
LIKE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK! After everything that Claire has been through why not add She fricken deserved to have even a bit of a HEA, but noooo!
Anyways for the most part this story was good, most of it was Claire and Shepherd rebuilding their relationship and Claire admitting her love for him. He was determined to make her happy and cure her from her previous depression, and he went through great lengths to please her... but of course this was the calm before the storm.
Tholos was ready to crumble and Shepherd and Claire had to split up before the battle started. Little did they know it was probably the last time they'd see each other.
This story was a serious roller-coaster, read at your own risk. It is not a safe series but I do not regret reading it. It's a nice change from the usual OTT happy ending I'm usually drawn too. This dystopian world was intriguing and after the cliffhanger ending I am looking forward to the spin-off series that is coming out this year. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I was under the impression that this series was romance, so the lack of HEA is irritating, especially because there were no warnings at all in the first and second books. Done with this author.
I'm a huge fan of Addison Cain. I don't know her background: how she came to publish her books, if she self-publishes, or what her editing process is like but it seems that she set out on her own and wove a really fascinating story. Shepherd and Claire are complicated and their relationship is emotional and sweet but disturbing.
Anyhoo, I adored the first two books in this series. I could find NO FAULTS in them. The characters were so well-developed. The sex scenes are some of the BEST I'VE EVER READ. That being said, what the hell happened??
I can't say that this review is entirely objective because I was upset with the ending but let's look at this logically first. The story became convoluted by the end. Some of my doubts (which may have been addressed but obviously not well enough for me to recall how they were resolved) were: Svana comes from a different dome but then we find out she's also the senator's daughter and she's trying to have sex with someone... what? Why introduce the virus? It served no purpose in the end. I still don't know what it does. We think Svana is going to do one thing to destroy the city but she does another thing but we had no idea what she was going to do in the first place or what she ended up doing because a bunch of stuff just explodes and I can't understand why Shepherd isn't ready for that. What happens to Maryanne? Why bother introducing her as a character? Why bother introducing Conrad for that matter; he serves no purpose. Why even bother building Claire up as a heroine of some sort? Cain creates this anticipation that Claire will somehow save the day and instead she's just drugged and contributes nothing to the battle for the soul of the city. Why talk about the Omegas? What happens to them?
The first two books in the series seemed to center on the struggle between Claire and Shepherd's ideals (the nature of humanity: whether the people under the dome were redeemable) and how this affected their relationship. Claire couldn't love Shepherd because he couldn't see the good in people. Because Cain spends so much time on this topic I assumed that the culmination of the book would address this in some way. I assumed the ending might have them overcome their differences. Perhaps Claire would show Shepherd the good in some people or Claire would read the forbidden books (okay, she read one but that doesn't count) and agree to escape the dome with him.
However, their story was truncated. She possibly loves her baby but we don't really know. The pregnancy makes her depressed. She seems to accept it in the end but who knows? She doesn't want to abandon the dome but Shepherd drugs her to get her to leave. He doesn't change his opinion about the people in the dome. Where is the resolution of that conflict? It seems like Cain built all of that up for nothing.
Svana's whole takeover seems arbitrary, like the author was anxious to be finished and wanted to wrap things up quickly.
Emotional reactions: It's possible that Cain is a tragedy writer and the arbitrary ending is exactly what she intended: that we as readers feel disgusted and hopeless by the senseless violence that ends the book. Shepherd, the most powerful alpha in the dome and Claire's protector dies because a wall falls on him. That's lame as hell. Claire's gang rape was absolutely un-fucking-necessary. It was gross and sick as fuck. Excuse my strong language but I found it offensive as hell. When she feels herself miscarrying. I mean for the love of God. And then she lives out the rest of her life in a catatonic state? I mean at least Svana dies. I thought Jules organ donation at the end was a nice touch.
I still love Cain's writing. I'm just sad as hell that the story ended this way. I don't think it was a strong finish.

How to summarize Reborn to adequately express in my opinion how amazingly well written and addictive this story was, expressing myself without giving away any spoilers, that would ruin it for others is not an easy feat, but here goes. This third instalment in the alpha's claim series was beautifully heartbreaking but was also the most romantic in terms of emotions and feelings. The love between our two main characters Claire the omega and Shepherd the Alpha actually shone from the pages: you didn't need the words from Claire to know she loved shepherd even if she had a hard time admitting it to herself. Shepherd well I felt from reborn the main thing that came across to me was his immense need to experience real love, something he has never really had defiantly not from his psychotic ex-lover, he just wants Claire to love him: he has realised and regrets past actions but genially believes, if wrongly, he did them out of love to keep his mate safe. Questions are answered and actions are explained everything is running so smoothly then, and this is the part I struggled with absolute tragic MAYHEM!!!! What I hated most about this story is actually what made it so epic and makes Addison Cain such a good writer. you can never imagine what is coming round the corner, a total train wreck of a storyline. I hoped, I prayed and I bawled my eyes out, and believe me getting me to cry is a feat in itself, I have the emotional range of a teaspoon usually and very few books make me cry well this did I was absolutely gutted. My heart was in my throat till the final words luckily I was left with a profound sense of hope that I am clinging to. A brilliant piece of fiction that I really enjoyed. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
Spoilers!!!! I loved and hated this book. It was perfect until the end. I knew the ending wouldn't be your typical happily ever after but I still expected Claire and Shepard to be together. I'm sorely disappointed by the way it ended.... ending are supposed to give resolutions and conclude the story. Instead I'm left in doubt on what actually happened to Claire and Shepard. I still have questions that Addison failed to answer. Did she kill herself? What happened to Shepherd? Hell, what happened to Jules? The vague memories and possibilities given to us (the reader) are just so lacking to conclude this beautiful story. I expected more from this moving story but what I got was a huge let down. So to wrap this up, here is my final opinion, Addison Cain writes engaging stories that have surpassed some of my favorite books by some best-selling authors. I love her writing and though I wished I could do a Stephen King Misery kind of thing and force her to rewrite me a different ending, I still loved this book and so I can't say I completely hated the story and never will buy another book by this author. She will still be on auto-buy, but Addison if you read this, next time you can still make a story memorable without breaking your readers heart.
Sigh.... I'm so disappointed right now. It's one thing to have a romance with a dark gritty take on a post apocalyptic society but Im a firm believer that there still needs to be a message of hope of some kind in the end or at the very least a smart and educational critique and/or commentary on society.
Through two wonderful books, the author creates these complex characters, allowing us to witness this dark work and these characters struggling to just survive. Despite this darkness, the author still promised (like a dangling carrot) it's readers the existence of a never ending hope for a better future and the potential for a new better world. Would it be Claire's or Shepherd's that would succeed in the end? That question really drove this plot and this romance forward and kept me coming back for more. The answer we get in this book is essentially no one wins and everyone dies.
Basically ALL the pain and suffering we saw these characters go through was for not. On top of that, we get a REALLY unnecessary rape scene of our herione that just felt unnecessarily graphic; the only purpose it served was to physically, spiritually, and mentally break her and lead her toward suicide. Shepherd's death was anticlimactic with us still not all the way understanding his or his army's rationale for killing the city or this plot with Svana ( a woman our hero to his dying day never stood up to).
Also in retrospect, outside the romance and world building, the plot of the war was always a little confusing to me but I chose to ignore it because I loved these characters so much. With the author killing everyone off, I had to ask myself who outsmarted who, how did they outsmart them, and for what purpose. There was some s*** about a royal bloodlines I think and a possible kingdom plus some s*** about a virus (I know Shepherd wanted to kill everyone but honestly why was it such a MUST). I'm still confused about what Svana was needed for or what she was apparently an heir too; like why was she ALLOWED to roam around and successfully plot against Shepherd and Claire.
I do have to give it to Cain, she is an amazing writer that can create some compelling characters and interactions that make a not so cohesive plot seem like pleasant white noise. In the end, the entire war plot line felt rushed, important characters killed off with questions and motivations still unanswered and the only resolution I can ascertain being the corrupt state wins again. The same corrupt elite class STILL controlling things and Claire's message of hope is perverted in the end to once again control the complacent masses. Cain leaves a slight opening that some characters may be alive but with this being the final book, it was a cold comfort honestly.
I want to emphasize that Cain is a great writer but this ending was not the business, y'all.
Firstly let me say I’M NOT HAPPY in fact I’m seriously bloody unhappy right now. Why? I purposely delayed reading this series until all 3 books were out. I checked on Goodreads (since they show all books in any series together at the side) and there it was Alpha’s Claim 3 books. So I started reading and even though Claire was annoying at times I was hooked and reading faster. I was up half the night and when I woke far too early this morning instead of going back to sleep like I should I started reading again.
And then it ended and I was in shock and then I was pissed I mean seriously pissed that it would end like that. So then I had to check all her other books for any that might continue the story and I find 1 book Stolen that is apparently too short and a cliffhanger.
Did I mention I’m bloody pissed?
Okay rant over this is supposed to be a review of Reborn.
It continues on from Broken and it’s a riveting read especially towards the end. Claire was annoying at times Shepherd was fabulous and the ending was disappointing.
Audio: 5 stars!!! Shepherds voice was everything I could imagined for an arrogant anti-hero (sexy, forbidden, hate-yourself-for-loving-it kind of voice). And Claire…wow!! A male narrator that manages to capture her sarcastic and at times defeated voice. I was beyond impressed with the narrator!
The book 3.5 stars because of the ending.
I didn’t some bitching about the length vs the price when I reviewed Books 1 &2, but in all honesty my biggest gripe were with the cliffhanger endings.
This series is rife with triggers. It’s not for everyone. It truly is a mind fuckery of a read, but it’s addictive. That’s why I found myself almost two years later reading/listening to book 3. I knew the ending would piss me off and it did. I’ve never heard of a trilogy that ends in a cliffhanger??? Claire and Shepperd’s story continues in the spin off that is about another couple. Color me annoyed! Will that stop me from reading the spin off? Nope. I grudgingly admit that there is a brilliance behind Addison Cain’s dark stories that has me coming back for more.
Well this is one the reasons why I don't really read part series book.
1. You have to wait for the next part to be released. 2. You tend to forget the story/characters so you have to re-read them again to remind you of it. 3. Author can fuck you up and take different route ending. LOL
Still a good story.. but I was- I don't know.. expecting a HEA? I mean.. after all they've been through.. I feel like we owe them one. (If that makes any sense..)
Anyways as I said.. still a good book for people who likes PR/futuristic story.
I am absolutely furious with this author. The h suffered so much throughout this series and then she is brutally gang-raped towards the end of this book. I can't believe that after everything that has happened I had to read something so despicable. The world depicted in this book has no hope. It begins with all the people suffering and continues to be that way. The OW is killed off so abruptly. You would think given how they hyped up this character that she would have a more glorious end. If it was that easy to kill her then why didn't anybody just do that to begin with? I don't have much to say about the H. He never redeems himself from the abuse he inflicted on the h and the rest of the city.

This book has the WORSE ENDING IN THE HISTORY OF BOOKS. Not kidding. The author built up this huge dystopian story, brought in drama, extra characters, crazy love story, made three books out of it, and then DIDNT DELIVER A CONCLUSION AT THE END. It literarily ends with a cliff hanger. Who does that? Beyond mad that I spent the passed three days reading this series, only to realize I just wasted my time. Would never read any of her other books. Girl, bye.
After reading book 1, if someone had told me that she would be able to turn this series into a love story, I would have laughed and then scoffed, Riiiiiight.
But it's true!! I cried, people. I cried over Shephard and Claire and their messed-up relationship . . . all while my heart felt like it would burst. I swear I have not lost my mind! It was really that good.
For most of Reborn, Claire and Shephard debate the ills of their relationship along with the ills of their society. This book is filled with intimate, back-and-forth, point-scoring, meaningful dialogue that I absolutely adored. Both Claire and Shephard's black and white ideals end up blurring into a murky grey that neither of them know how to deal with.
I also really loved that the author continued to build Shephard into a three-dimensional character. His journey from malicious villain to caring hero (well, anti-hero) was expertly done. His actions in book 1 and 2, while still not justifiable, are explained, and his softer side is further uncovered little by little.
The ending. I'm not sure what everyone is bitching about. That there's going to be another book? That it was tragic? That the HEA is unclear? I'm suspicious that people got pissed off and didn't actually read to the very end of the book.
Granted, I believe that the author took things too far with Svana's revenge on Claire at about 80%. I felt it was unnecessary and I would have enjoyed the book more if the same outcome could have been reached through different events. But there were many hints that it was coming and it fit with the dark society the author created.
5 VERY SOLID, DARK STARS! This series is going on my favorites shelf.
I'm not a reader that always needs a HEA. I can handle 'cheating' if written well and it fits the story. Even cliffhangers, on occasion. But, to invest over a year in a series (I read what turned out to be book 1 on a free site before author pulled it in order to publish) and have such an ambiguous ending, so many characters not resolved, makes me feel more than a little manipulated and taken advantage of. Information about one of the leading characters was actually written to give false information, simply in order to manipulate the reader. This wasn't a case of making a 'character' believe something, it was directed at us, the reader. So, I'm glad I finished it. Addison Cain writes well. But, I'm not sure I'd read another of her works. I want to be 'part of the journey', but not taken advantage of, as a reader or paying customer.
So here’s a kicker. This is the final book in the series. That usually means concluding a couple’s story even if they show up in future books. Not here. Nope. The series is over but not this couple. I wanna scream right now. Admittedly, I was half way through this book when I saw a Facebook post that stated this couple continue in the next book so I shouldn’t be so angry, but even that bit of a warning was not enough. I could’ve dealt with this hero a lot better if this story had an acceptable ending. I might have even wanted to continue into the next book/series. Not going to happen now.
I struggled throughout this series to connect with the hero on any level. The last book was just beginning to get me there, the beginning of this one adding to it but it was just too little too late. When there is a clash of crisis and everything goes to Hades in a hand-basket, I knew I should’ve felt moved but I didn’t. And I hated that because I truly wanted to love this hero and I was almost there. However, I never really felt like I knew him. I didn’t have enough insight into his thoughts. This is a pretty popular series so I’m thinking this was a complete “me” thing and not actually the book.
I did like the fact that the heroine finally makes a connection to him and begins to learn more about him through their link. With that addition to their relationship she begins to open up to him and they became more of a couple which was just when I started to feel positive toward the hero.
This was my first foray into this sub-genre and I will say that I am intrigued, but I will probably stay away from this author for many different reasons and I’m disappointed about that because I love finding a new to me author that can rock my world. The potential was there but unfortunately Ms. Cain and I are not a match.
Ever read or watched a series? When that series finale came did you ever feel like you got screwed?
I GOT SCREWED!
*deep breath*
This series began and ended in tragedy. I blame myself. Somehow I managed to overlook the authors notes where she states no HEA. Now I want to act like an ass and give a low rating because I hate how it ended....but I can't do that.
Plain and simple Cain wrote an amazing story. Definitely don't like the way it played out through book 3 but credit should be given where it is due.
Not going to go into any further detail to keep this spoiler free.
Science fiction, dystopia, paranormal, tragedy, dark romance, and dark erotica.
Chapters 1 to 11:
This portion of Reborn was everything I love and come to expect from this series. The interactions between Shepherd & Claire were witty, funny, bittersweet, sad, and hopeful. And we (the readers) got to see them connect on an emotional level that we had yet to see in the past books. I got the impression that both these characters desperately wanted to make their relationship work, but too much had already been set in motion.
Chapters 12, 13, & Epilogue:
I was not happy with this portion of the book. I never expected a HEA, but I did expect something a little bit better. This is MY interpretation:
Overall:
Despite the controversial ending, this is still undoubtedly a great book and series (imo).
Copy provided by author in exhanged for an honest review. Review is on ARC version.
However, I also purchased this entire series when the books were on sale. I wanted to own the official copies, for when I do eventually reread this series...yes it is that good.
If you're going to read this, be prepared to be gutted. This book, this series… it ripped me to tattered tear-stained and bloody ribbons. I didn’t read it. I felt it. I was THERE.
And now that it’s over , I’m trying to process my feelings, a lump in my throat, a hole in my gut. Book hangover doesn't even begin to describe the emptiness I feel right now.
Shepherd and Claire’s journey with one another was so fucking real, so organic that I believed every word of it. But damn it, I want my muthafuckin' HEA and I want it NOW.
Having no other choice...I'll wait for it, believing that the author wouldn't have given us the sheer beauty beneath all of those layers of filth unless she planned to tell us more in her next installment.
I hate open endings. I want to know what happens. I need to know. I have to believe, that with the intricately woven story and the effort it must have taken, that I'll eventually get that closure I need. As a storyteller myself, I can't believe the author doesn't have the overwhelming urge to give us that closure. Doesn't she need it herself?
So, I'll watch for the next series, hoping for my answers because I have no choice but to do so.
Insert witty pouty gif here. Or something. I need a nap.
What I was hoping for was some type of resolution and happy ever after and that's certainly What. I. Did. Not. Get.
Holy Hell...if I thought Born to be Bound was bad then this is horrific. And it is. Especially with how sweet the relationship becomes between Shepherd and Claire. But oh no, nothing can be that easy in these books.
AND...if I didn't know there was another book, I would have been absolutely outraged at that ending. 'Nuff said.
Ok. I LOVED book 1 and 2. They pulled me right in to this wonderfully interesting, unique world Ms. Cain created. I was rivited. Yes, there were things I didn't care for like the H cheating but Ms. Cain was able to redeem the OW situation by paying tribute to the pain the h felt and not belittling it. The h was ready to take her life due to the emotional hurt the H caused with his cheating. The fact that the H saying "I'm sorry" didn't cut it with this h was wonderful.
So it was with the expectation of redemption and a satisfying HEA that I bought this book - prior to seeing any reviews. I was, to say the least, greatly disappointed. The ending was awful. I can't stress that enough. There literally was NO ending and this is how the series ends???? Unbelievable! Yes, I've seen it mentioned that there might be a book 4 but this was billed as a trilogy. To NOT end it with book 3 is dishonest. As a consumer, I had the expectation of buying 3 books and receiving the full story.

When I got to 91% of this story I was shocked - I didn't think this series could bring about any more emotions but I cried at this point but that crying soon turned to (If I had a gif I would show my exact reaction) to WTF? NO you cannot do that Addison Cain...........when my eyes connected to those words "the story of Shepherd and Claire will continue in Alpha's Control, summer 2017" I ranted, and threw my dummy (Kindle) out of the bed!
Cruel...it really was cruel!
So people beware although this is listed as a three parter, for some bizarre reason Addison Cain has extended it but as a book 1 in another series..........NOT good considering first book was released in April 2016 and now has been re-released in June 2017. Pointless - totally pointless........and removes the impact of the whole story. So due to this review is amended from 5 stars to 3 stars.
Most of the book is about Shepherd and Claire rebuilding their relationship. They both expressed their love for each other. Shepherd tried everything to please her, and I enjoyed it when Claire tried to understand him. However, I hated the ending.
Claire deserves a happy ending after everything she went through. But the author had to ruin it. Other than the end, it is a decent book.
I checked the spoiler for the next book and found out Shepherd and Claire are alive. Now I am kind of relieved.
I'd been waiting for this book since I finished reading the second one! I've never been so excited for a book since Harry Potter.
I'd anticipated that Ms. Cain would end the series differently than most books in the same genre, but it didn't stop it from being absolutely heart-wrenching.
So I'll start with the things I didn't like: I thought the ending was a good concept, but I didn't enjoy its execution. It felt rushed - for example I wanted to see more foreshadowing or hints of how Shepherd and Claire might have escaped, instead of them mostly being implied through Corday and Premier Dane. For example, in the final chapter it was said that his body was confiscated, and yet in the epilogue it said that nobody knows for sure if he was actually dead. I would've also enjoyed getting to know the world in more detail - where the Greth Dome is, what kind of dome Thólos is and what exactly is plaguing their world. I catch snippets of it from the various conversations, but I would've liked a clearer picture.
Other than that, the writing was beautiful and unique, as always, and I found myself lingering to enjoy the words even as the rising tension propelled me to read faster and faster. As with the second book, I liked the smatterings of Sun Tzu's quotes amidst Claire and Shepherd's conversations, and how the relationship between our two protagonists progressed and deepened. I also felt that the dystopic part of the universe was really expanded upon - the horrors of it (that last scene with Claire), how many different motivations create conflict and chaos, and finally how such complicated problems in society cannot be solved so easily, which was reflected by the cryptic ending.
In any case, I enjoyed the book very much. It isn't a feel-good book, but it's definitely unique, thought-provoking and beautifully written.

Well, Ms Cain could have given us all that we expected .. but instead she gave us what we needed.
Claire and Shepard's story was never going to be cut and dry. I personally loved all the in dome politics and backstabbing. The search for right in the face of overwhelming wrong.
Sigh.. I will never take a happily_predictable_ever_ after for granted again with you Ms Cain!
Appreciate how many hours you've put into this, loved it. Thanks
I have to say, it is rare when a book is capable of bringing me to tears and that is what this long awaited conclusion has done. It absolutely shattered me and it was beyond refreshing. I am deeply disappointed at the lack of understanding from these reviewers. Not every story has to have a happily ever after for you. Some stories are more complex than that and deserve an ending that does not simply lay with the norm, and I applaud Addison Cain for her bravery and ability to give us the ending that was truest to her. Authors do not write for readers; they write for themselves, and we are all lucky enough that they are able to share these wonderful stories with the world. To complain about paying for her work or that you will no longer follow her because you disliked her ending is childish and disappointing. This story captivated me from every angle. From the deep sentence structure and carefully calculated dialogue, I have to say, I have never read anyone like Addison Cain and I am happy she is here to share her worlds with us. What she did with her ending was an open ending, allowing us to decide for ourselves and choosing to spiral further into the mystery of Claire and Shepherd. Why must everything be black and white for you? Why not delve in the grey for a bit? Shepherd led his flock from the Undercroft into a new world of possibilities. Addison Cain did the same for her readers and I am proud to be a Follower, as I will continue to be for this next series that I am eager to read. Reborn was everything it deserved to be and that is what happened to Claire and Shepherd; they were reborn.
4.5 stars. What the hell Addison Cain. Warning this is going to be a shitty review. It isn't even a review, I guess these are just notes so I can remember the emotional torment that was the ending of this book.
My thought process as I got closer to the end (major spoilers):
No, no, no, no...they're not getting out of the dome and their hea. Claire and Martin?
Svana is evil, but hallelujah for Dane.
Maybe there's hope?
No, no, no, no, no
Oh. god.
Claire and Corday will never work.
I thought the snowy ending into Shephard's arms was perfect! Bittersweet, tragic, and romantic in the best way that fit the intensity and darkness of this series. A sweet hea would have cheapened the story and not fit.
What the hell Dane is a bitch! Where was Shepard during this time? How exactly did he get away while Claire was captured?
The very last twist, which resulted in the open-ended possibility of a hea with little resolution was not satisfactory. I preferred the idea of them having an afterlife together; it almost reminded me of Wuthering Heights. Ugh.
Damn.
Right now I'm taking off a star for the very last twist at the end, but after this simmers I may raise it to five stars later.
Edit: I've finished Stolen and some of my questions regarding the open-ended ending here were answered. I wish Addison Cain had included an epilogue in this book....I'm still giving this five stars because despite my frustrations I enjoyed this series too much not too.

What did I just read? Okay, I just finished the series and here are my thoughts. The series was okay. It was addictive to read, but that doesn’t mean I was okay with what I was reading. I think what was really hard for me to grasp was how negative everything was.
But goodness, there was so much tension.
This book is about the resistance and the rebellion. Claire and Shepherd continue to battle each other, but each learn a little more of the other side.
I felt like Claire and Shepherd could have moved faster in the change. They were progressing, but then also going backwards. I was getting whiplash. I didn’t know who to root for and that left me really confused.
Who is in the right? I guess the answer is there is no right.
The whole book is drawn out and it was slow, but it was also addictive to read. I know it doesn’t make sense.
I guess in the end I wanted a clear view of who is bad and who is good and who I am to root for. I didn’t love Shepherd in the end, but he was making progress in becoming redeemable, just not fast enough in my opinion.
And the ending…. I have three words. What.The.Fuck?
I truly thought this was only going to be a trilogy... Nope, once again we're left with a cliffhanger and not knowing Shepherd and Claire's fate. Shepherd got Claire back, and though she was there physically, he wanted her the way she had been before he went and screwed it all up by being a jerk. I found it highly amusing to watch his attempts, especially since Claire saw right through all of them. Still, time eventually wears her down, and I believed it when she started to have feelings for him once again. The last few chapters gutted me, just gutted me, and although I'm angry that this is being drawn out into yet another book, I'm also relieved...because it just can't end like this!
