Isn't growing up boring that is why we read for fun... AND this was hours of fun, old comic strips and short stories of dubious quality but with such a strong triggering of cherished memories. I did time travel but not for nostalgia, but for the pleasant memories it evoked of mum and dad and a happy childhood
A wonderful compilation of the best stories from the world distrbutors annuals.
The Doctor Who Annuals from 1964 to 1986 were completely and utterly bonkers. But this collection of stories spanning two decades gives a fascinating taste of how the stories developed. This is the ultimate, curated artifact, written by a series of did-they-ever-see-Doctor-Who?-authors, and assembled into a collection where the line between golden nostalgia and "good lord!" was constantly blurred.
A trip through time in two ways. featuring stories with the first to the (then current) sixth Doctor, the stories also develop in sophistication as they go, and characterisation. Presumably lifted from Doctor Who annuals, this is a great time capsule of doctor who fiction.
I enjoyed this book: with its short stories, it is great both for those who have little time (or memory) for longer stories, and for those who eat stories and binge-read several at once. The styles of narrative were different across the book, and covered the first six doctors. Very enjoyable.
