The American anthropologist Margaret Mead (1901-1978) was barely 24 years old when she left New York to study the natives of Samoa, New Guinea, and other remote Pacific islands. Anthropological research to her was not a dull academic discipline but an adventure in which every little detail, from Balinese ritual dances to Polynesian tattooing, held enormous fascination. Her 1928 book-- Coming of Age in Samoa --made her both famous and controversial. She boldly challenged the most deeply ingrained principles of the Western way of family structure, education, and child-rearing. When she died in 1978, a Pacific tribe she befriended held a five-day ceremony in her honor normally reserved for their greatest chiefs. About the author

Joan T. Mark (1937–2015) was an American anthropologist. She was the author or coeditor of six books. Mark received her BA from the University of Iowa in 1959 and her PhD from Harvard in 1968. She was a Research Fellow and Associate in the History of Anthropology at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard for 40 years.

للتو أنهيت من قراءة الكتاب

أحببت كل شيء فيه بدءاً بأوراقه الصفراء حتى آخر سطر من الكتاب ..!

الترجمة سلسة وليست ممله بالمرة
المترجم برع في جذب انتباه القارئ لدرجة أنك لا تشعر بأنه كتاب مترجم!

مارغريت ميد لِمَ لم يسمع عنها من قبل

هى عالمه في علم الإنسان " انثروبولوجي " كان طموحها يفوق سنوات عمرها

تلك الفتاة الضئيلة قد تستهين بقدراتها ، ففي أوائل العشرينيات من عمرها تترك أمريكا ذات المباني الشاهقة والشوارع النظيفة لتغرس قديمها في وحل القرى البدائية حتى أنها ستعتاد على هذه الحياة طيلة سنوات عمرها


الكتاب مزود بالصور النادرة ، كما أن فكرة تخصيص فصل يستعرض الجدول الزمني لسيرة حياتها الشخصية والأكاديمية ، إلى جانب قائمة بأسماء كتبها ومقالاتها كانت في غاية الأهمية لمن يرغب في معرفة المزيد عن مارغريت

من المؤسف أني لم أقتنِ بقية أجزاء " سلسلة علماء عباقرة "

الكتاب رائع ساحر .. عميق لأنه يحوي تجربة عميقة لباحثة جادة
فضولي كبير لأقرأ عن حياتها وأنا لم أعرف عنها سوى بعض إنجازاتها من خلال محاضراتي الجامعيّة الأولى وربما كانت تلك المحاضرات النافذة الأولى لأتعرف عليها ... قصة حياتها وكأنها تكلمة لدروسي الجامعية تتعلم على يديها وهي الأستاذة في رحلاتها، أهم درس أخرج به من هذا الكتاب أنّ البحث هو سؤال عميق يحكم الإنسان في لحظات قد تطول كثيرا لسنوات وسنوات، ولا يجدر قتل السؤال بمدة قصيرة طولها يتلازم مع طول السنة الجامعية المخصصة للبحث
كتاب عميق لكل طالب وباحث في خطواته الأولى
