Nightmare Night is one of the most popular holidays in Equestria. This was not always the case, however. This is the story of what happens when a culture forgets its past and ignores the true meaning of its traditions. This is the origins of a true nightmare, and what it means when it is unwittingly returned to the waking world by three young friends.
Trigger warning: child death, child abuse, child murder, graphic content of child starvation, basically everything that can be done to a child is done in this story. No SA, but there is a lot of delight in harming a child, no real sexual content. A lot of death, and if you're listening to the audio version of this very awful noises for headphone users to hear.
It suffers from a little bit of problems early on, mostly I always find stories like this will immediately kill Applejack because she is canonically the strongest earth pony, and I feel like it opens up with a rather brutal death, but then quickly kills off one of the strongest of the mane six. After that it gets better.
I personally find the opening to be the weakest part of the story, once we're past that and we start seeing how everything happened it all sounds a lot better. The flow picks up and the story is definitely brutal and gory.
It's almost iconic because this came out and the same year as Cupcakes: 2012, but got a huge audiobook adaptation online, the audio on YouTube is some of the best that you can get. Just because the community really likes to put together an epic piece.
This is far from my favorite story among this fandom or even on this platform, I'm actually amazed it's on this site just because it is not a book and it's so far from book length.
Personally I always fall into listening to this one by accident because the profile image is so vivid and colorful that I always got curious about what I was staring at. But I can say that if you stumble upon this and listen to it it'll definitely have the perfect sound effects and voices to really shake you the first time.
I love returning back to my older fandoms from time to time. This year, after successfully completing university, I have decided to take a (much-deserved) personal nostalgia-trip; like reading MLP fanfics (especially MLP creepypastas) on my TBR, playing older video-games I know and getting into more older fandoms (like Homestuck which I have always avoided).
tw: gore, body horror, cannibalism(?)
I remember hearing once or twice about this fanfic during my days into the brony fandom. It is sad that I didn't read this fanfic sooner as it is perfect for Halloween. Listening to the adaptation on YT by Emogak made me shiver. Overall, this story is downright horrifying... and sad. Candymare is one of the few monsters in fiction who I actually sympathize due to her disturing backstory.
Obviously, I will go and read (or listen to) the next installments of the series.
That story was absolutely intense and awesome!!! I never thought this kind of MLP creepypasta will get me into not sleeping for a while. Keep up the good work Knackerman! I adore Candymare so much! Especially where she shows her past years ago with Luna defeating her.
