The so called ‘rational’ man of today often thinks that he has no need of what he calls superstitious nonsense, and may laugh at shamans, medicine men and Gypsies. But who will be proved right, I wonder: modern man whose every step along the road of progress seems to bring the Earth closer to death, or people like the shamans and the Gypsies, who cherish nature and work with her in every possible way?

4 stars for clarity and topics covered, from medicinal herbs, to palmistry, tarot, dream interpretations and more. 1 extra star for having the guts to write such a book, which I can imagine is controversial not only by its topics but also by the way the author comes forward with sharing her own experiences and those of her family. Normalising what others consider taboo. Quite inspirational. And very pleasantly surprised to see some symbols originate from the Egyptian vast knowledge.

Informative and entertaining, this book explains the Gypsy "Zee" energy, and a wealth of spells to protect one from curses and bad luck. Includes a lengthy explanation of Tarot cards and fortune-telling, as well as lovely descriptions of Gypsies living in and learning from nature. Born in a bender (Gypsy) tent, Cooper is well qualified to share this info. Wish she'd given more on vocabulary, though; she still keeps some secrets from the Gadjo. (non-Gypsies).

I really enjoyed the no-nonsence writing style of this author. Writing from her personal experiences growing up, the "magic and spells" come across as so much ancestral and cultural heritage. Not new-agey or hokey at all, just very common sense and genuine.

Cooper's clear and decisive choices made this book endearing to me. Cooper's book shows me where some of my leanings come from and explains some family traditions I never understood.

Bought this book for research and found it to be very simple. I have some books about the Rom by the Romani and this wasn't more than a basic intro into some customs and magics. I was a little disappointed though I enjoyed the book. If you are looking for detailed info, this isn't for you. If you are just starting out, then you'll find this helpful. But beware, there is opinion mingled into the actual information and without other context, you may find it confusing to know which is which.

Still, it was fun and I am glad to have it in my library.

such a gorgeous book! great to refer back to for spells, meditations, herbal knowledge. It was so lovely to read and learn about the gypsies who don't have a great reputation. highly recommend!
