Fully illustrated with original photography, this beautiful book includes advice, techniques and tips for skin, brows, eyes, lashes and lips, including how icons like Marilyn Monroe shaped their looks throughout history. From easy-to-follow guides to recommendations for ideal tools to create the perfect look, this manual will reveal how to manage and style each feature to suit you best. Whether you're an absolute beginner, an aspiring make-up artist or simply looking to try out something new, this is the book for you.
This is a really interesting take on makeup book manuals combining the classical makeup manual form with modern technology - embedded videos on certain pages that you can access via the accompanying app. I really liked this approach to the makeup manual books and I would love to see more authors do this. Regarding the content of the book and the writing style it's very user, especially beginner, friendly. Everything is clear and concise and each section of the face has a dedicated chapter. I would recommend this for both makeup lovers and beginners :-)
Currently studying Level 3 in Make-up artistry and it’s so hard to get your hands on a good beauty book that will really helps. This book covers everything anyone interested/studying make-up would need to know and learn and practise. The app goes perfectly with it and really gives it a personal feel. More advanced make-up lovers would already know most of the information and techniques within this book but it’s helped me nonetheless.
First of all, this is a super nicely illustrated and designed book - it's gorgeous. In terms of tutorials and actual content, I'd recommend this to people on an intermediate level with their make-up skills. For beginners it might be actually a bit advanced, but I think combined with googling and Youtube it might work. For me, who knows their way around make-up like it's nobody's business, there wasn't really anything new here.
I have followed Sam & Nic Chapman’s Pixiwoo YouTube channel for years (they started it in 2008) & I was so excited when all their knowledge & expertise came out in a book. With practical, step by step techniques, this is a great book for anyone wanting to up their makeup game!
You may have trouble getting this book in the US -- I had to order it from a 3rd party seller in the UK, but the book has a cover price of 20 pounds and I paid $17ish and $4 shipping and it arrived pretty quickly, so I'd say that was worthwhile.
I recommend this book for anyone like me who has cobbled together makeup knowledge from a few workshops and lots of YouTube tutorials. Face covers a lot of the basic information you need to know about products and application and color theory. It's easy to read, full of beautiful images, and the authors' personalities shine through. If you like the Pixiwoo YouTube channel, you'll like the book.
There's also a free phone app and apparently you can hover your phone over images in the book and get tutorials, but I haven't tested that yet.
I'm hugely into make up and a massive fan of this duo, I really enjoyed this book and I'm going to keep it on my vanity table to go back to for advice and to help me when doing other people's makeup. A part of me wishes there was more step by steps but there is plenty really!
