Still in search for a Jonaxx book that I wouldn't have any issues with.

It's really hard for me to remember who's who with her characters from her books since most of them are similar, especially her male protagonists. I really don't get their appeal. They're not reall well-developed. One book almost has the same conflict with the other. It's getting really old really fast. I just need more depth, more feelings without misconstrued misunderstandings every other page because the characters assume something is true / jump to conclusions right away without confirming it first. Everything just feels contrived and forced to be honest.

I don't feel the natural progression of feelings between her main characters. I know I'm forgetting a few more things, but these are mostly what my issues are with her books.

A rip-off of PHR's Martha Cecilia's Sweetheart 2: Lavender Lace

Reminded me of PHR's Martha Cecilia's Sweetheart 2: Lavender Lace.

Martha Cecilia: Rigo dela Serna, an engineering student from a family with a humble background (may pag-aaring talyer)
Jonaxx: Sibal Riego, an engineering student from a family with a humble background (mga mangingisda) - but he's actually related to a rich family

Martha Cecilia: Lacey Bernardino, the rich girl whose mother died and whose father got sick
Jonaxx: Snow, the rich girl who's mother abandoned their family and whose father got sick

Martha Cecilia: Rigo and Lacey had an age gap. (at the start of the story, Rigo was 21 and Lacey was 16)
Jonaxx: Sibal and Snow had an age gap. (at the start of the story, Snow was 17 and Sibal was 21 something)

Martha Cecilia: Lacey leaves town and six years later comes back for a job.
Jonaxx: Snow leaves town and comes back five years later for a job.

Martha Cecilia: Lacey is with her gay friend, Steve, who is mistaken as her boyfriend. Their car breaks down while in her old hometown. The mechanic who showed up to the scene is Rigo.
Jonaxx: Snow has a potential fiancee. The engineer employed for a renovation plan in Costa Leona is Rigo.

Martha Cecilia: The mansion owned by Lacey's family is pawned to Rigo. In order not to totally lose the property, she has to marry Rigo.
Jonaxx: (Let me see if I find this on other books in the series)

Martha Cecilia: Lacey's friend, Yda, says that her son is Rigo's. She also tells her that Rigo is only out for revenge.
Jonaxx: Sibal tells Snow that at first he wanted to exact vengeance on her, but decided agaibst it in the end. While later in the story, Katarina would lead Snow to believe that she and Sibal have an affair.

Martha Cecilia: In the past, Lacey's father had filed a case of attempted rape against Rigo. Rigo was rebuked by the whole town and was unable to finish school there.
Jonaxx: Snow's Tita Marem was antagonistic towards her niece's relationship with Rigo. She cut off the latter's scholarship, his job, and even threatened a case against him.

Martha Cecilia: Lacey's father had attempted to rape Rigo's mother in the past.
Jonaxx: Snow's Tita Marem had a deep rooted hatred for Sibal's father, Achilles.

Martha Cecilia: Lacey lived with her Auntie Fe in Manila.
Jonaxx: Snow and her Auntie Marem.

I got the impression na sa kuwentong ito, lahat ng babae liban kay Snow ay tila pinapalabas na malandi o dinedescribe in such a way para mainis ka sa kanila at mas kampihan mo ang bidang babae. It's like the literary cousin of "I'm not like other girls" phenomenon. I really can't stand the slut-shaming in this story. And by the way, what an underhanded way of making readers favor the female lead.

Kahit wala siguro 'yong element na 'yon sa story, 'di ko pa rin magugustuhan ang kuwentong ito. The main characters themselves leave little to be desired.

Ewan ko kung may split personality o bipolar ba si Sibal o 'di lang maka-decide ang author kung ano nga ba talaga ang character ng male lead n'ya. He seemed like a jokester in the first few chapters, and then he became dark and brooding the next chapters.

Snow would have been a good heroine, if not for her insecurity for every other female in the novel. It's just appallingly ugly to me that a woman has to tear down other women just to make herself feel superior.

The story's angst potential was wasted. I was left disappointed by this story.

8.8 out of 10 would not recommend.

According to the Wattpad grapevine, the author said she doesn't read novels. Pero sa tingin ko, kung anumang kakapiranggot na mga libro ang nabasa niya, sigurado akong isa sa mga 'yon ang Lavender Lace ni Martha Cecilia.

P.S.

I wonder if the rest of this author's whole series will be influenced by Martha Cecilia's Sweetheart series (and maybe even a little bit of the Kristine series).

Huh. This series basically has the same plot. From all the books; the same conflicts: in the 80% there will be some family drama that compells the girl to leave, the same time jump to justify the age gap that started when the girl was still a minor, the same male leads where you can't even differentiate between all because they basically have the same personalities (umiigting yung panga to be specific), the same age gaps; younger poor girl, older rich guy, etc etc you name it.

Where's the flavor

I get why people love the series because the male protagonists are the 'dream guy' types. But all of them are kind of the same...

The men are all the same. They have no personality except for being affluent, handsome, tall, womanizers, misogynistic, and grooming assholes who think they're every woman's dream, even a child's! Catastrophe. The girls are all underage and know no better. God! Other than that, I never really liked the portrayal of women here. There is no women's empowerment at all! All those insecurities, trash talking, putting each other down, and loads of other things. The stories are not even original. Basically, Martha Cecilia 2.0. It's fun to read and point out the similarities.

Two stars for helping me hone my anger. And it was actually a bit entertaining, reminding me of M.C., so maybe it is a guilty pleasure; we all have that, right?

I've read this a long time ago and I wanted to review it after I've read Lavender Lace by Martha Cecilia and I finally did.

I've read a review somewhere here saying na "Scorching Love is a Rip-off of Lavender Lace", which I strongly know now na it's not true.

I never really got Scorching Love vibe on Lavender Lace nor either way. I think they're unique on their own ways. So if y'all are thinking if Scorching Love is a somewhat rip-off of ms. MC's novel, I'll tell you that's a NO.

Now let's go to my Scorching Love review.

Honestly this book is my least favorite book in the series. I think that this was well-written but it could be very sensitive to other people. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN AGE GAP TROPE.

Age gap trope is I think is very new to readers here in PH hence this series has become one of the most controversial books there is.

Statutory r4pe is mentioned. Though you could see from both POV that it did not really affect any of the parties and had closure and realization, it is still wrong. Later on on the story Sibal (the lead) was imprisoned because of what he did. For me it gave me more messages and knowledge than damage, but it doesn't work like that for everyone so this is your major warning.

I enjoyed it though but I still think you should read it for yourself and not base on other people's opinion cause this book is HELLA MISUNDERSTOOD.

I dove into this wishing for the kilig and butterfly in my stomach kind of feels and Jonaxx delivered. How is it that she even with all the stories she has written (and them being formulaic), she always captures me with her words and world building? That, my friends, is rare talent.

For some reason, mas tumatak and napamahal sakin ang Costa Leona kesa sa Allegria (and to a point sa CDO), may something eh. It somehow reminded me of Martha's Alta Tierra and Paso de Blas. Super thankful that although Martha is not with us anymore eh nandyan si Jonaxx. I swear sobrang parehong vibes as a writer yung binibigay nila sa'kin and I'm sure as Jonaxx matures as a writer, we could definitely expect more gems from her.

Super love Sibal and Snow's story, first pa lang 'to ng series and I'm almost afraid na wala ng makatalo sa kanila. On to the next book

Finally decided to pick this book up again for nostalgia's sake (and an attempt to escape a reading slump). I have to admit that Jonaxx does have a formula in writing and things can be a bit cliche, but that's the reason why her stories work.

Snow and Sibal will always be special to me, and I really loved their story - accepting the character's flaws and all.

I'm off to read the entire Costa Leona series!

It’s a well expressed literary work that includes love that makes the readers crave. The characters are well fitting in the tremendous flow of the story. It expresses experiences in different views and perspectives.
The Scorching Love brought me to tears, made me shriek and shout, jump on my bed and left me wondering of the capabilities of a person in love.
There are few flaws I’ve detected but it doesn’t necessarily put out the fire.
I’m in absolute awe, hands-down to the author (Jonaxx). Her greatest achievement is how she drives her readers to scout and read more of her masterpieces, and I’m guilty for that.

1st in the CLS and I've read it years ago. It was okay, but not great. Rereading it today when I developed a better thinking, I feel that this isn't as good as I thought before.

First, there is a little inconsistency with Sibal's character. He was introduced as goofy and funny, then later on became mysterious. I never saw the Chapter 1 Sibal on the later chapters.

Second, Snow is too insecure.

Last, the way that other female characters are projected as bad just to lift up the female protagonist is so... weird (which is almost the same to other stories).

And now that I'm on that topic, I would just like to say that CLS feels so... repetitive. After I read the completed stories in the series, I can't distinguish who is who among the male protagonists. The characters feels similar in this series, except for Soleil. And you can't being the "ah, it's because of her writing" argument. I've read different stories from the same author and each characters stands out on their own. CLS' conflicts, issues, the-male-will-be-the-CEO-for-a-time— everything is almost identical. Nothing new to the table. Even the rising and falling actions are predictable. I'll know what chapters the conflict is going to rise. I know there'll be some jealously or trust issues. I know that the female protagonists will jump into conclusion. I know there'll be that "let's talk".
I know there'll be no redemption arcs for the antagonists. I know the other female characters in the story (except for those who are protagonists of their own stories in the CLS) will be written with a bad light. And it could've been okay if it these things aren't repeated for almost every story.

I feel disappointed because jonaxx writes so well. There is no problem at all with her writing at all. The way she describes things, the imagery and details, are the type of writing I like to read. But WHAT she writes needs to be more varied in my opinion. After all, what is being prolific if you're writing the same thing just with different fonts?

This is the first book I have ever read by Jonaxx, and it has stayed with me since 2017. I actually just finished rereading it today, and thank goodness I did. I'd been reading western novels for years and had almost forgotten this work existed. So to say, I am very satisfied with it. 10/10 would recommend it to those who haven't read any Jonaxx books. The characters' development is desirable, and the overall feel of the book is fantastic. Ever since I started the series, the beach, the waves, and the sand, never felt the same way as they did back then. It now has a sentimental value for me, from our home, Costa Leona.

P.S. Thank you, Jonaxx, for making me fall in love with reading. More work to come!

3.9! The story's flow was good but Sibal's 'character' somehow confused me. I thought he'd be this 'goofy' guy we saw in the beginning chapters but he suddenly turned into this 'mysterious' guy after a few chapters? Plus the family's 'feud' weren't really that much detailed and not that new? I sort of expected things already :( but overall, it's a good story :) *SPOILER* The story got me really hooked when Snow came back to Costa Leona! I love everything after that hahahaha.

female lead was kind of a pick me and an elitist. i got bothered by the age gap, also the fact that they had sex when he was 21 and she's 17 (very weird).

i was also informed that the male lead got jailed but also married the female lead at the end.

why would the female lead marry her rapist?

well si insecure pick me girlie at si creepy corny maraming mixed signals engineer boyfriend,,, matched made in hell talaga charet

hindi naman yung age gap ang main issue ko dito kasi pagod na ako magcomment atp pero ang main issue ko is ang creepy ni sibal sa first few chapters likeee,,, di ko alam i dont feel his character. di ako kinikilig sa patutsada niya kay snow— nababadtrip ako hahaha

and si snow naman yung typical pick me-sha girlie na “im not like other girls”. may lumapit lang na babae sa jonaxx boy e isslut shame bigla. yung mga comments ganon. e if we’re being technical, u lost your virginity at 17. kumerengkeng ka nang maaga for the lack of better term so why pick on other girls? buti na lang din at kahit paano ay nagimprove si jonaxx kasi common theme talaga tong pick me slut shaming sa older books niya. yung parang papalabasin sa book na all other girls are bitches para yung main girl lang ang mapansin as “good girl”. 2016 pa naman sinulat to so ig,,, idk

and sibal’s character is v inconsistent. feel ko di nakapagdecide si jonaxx kung ano ba dapat si sibal. funny, joker or brooding dreamy guy. so ewan. kahit ako di ko shur. basta pogi siya charet.

and the story is baduy sa unang parts. i hate snow and sibal together. hahahahah naging juicy lang kaganapan nung pumasok si maria emilia sa eksena. mali siya but damn go siz hahahaha maging petty tayo ng taon. di tayo naging riego so maninira tayo ng buhay ganon.

so far after chapter 40 mej naging ok naman siya.

magaling din talaga si jonaxx gumawa ng timelines. haha at angas lang na yung ibang characters ng rara avis ay nandito.

ayon ito lang ang aking thoughts. should you read it? depends sa reason. dont read it to expect life changing literature. pero if gusto mo basahin to para magwarm up sa machilles ship (like me), then go for it hahaha

I've reread it after 5-6 years-ish. I remember reading this for the first time from Wattpad years ago and now, it felt nostalgic reading it in a physical book and feeling it in my hands.

Warning: This may contain spoilers!!!

This book is an opener for a bigger series of Costa Leona and its secrets. From the ancient, old-money families and the mystery each family holds. I understand that in order to love this book, you have to read the whole Costa Leona series to understand the different POV of each character. As to how and why such characters were introduce and the prejudices underlying to them. From the tragic stories to successful ones.

What I love about this book is the character development of each characters. How the readers feelings were swayed from hating a character to loving them and vice versa. There are a lots of valuable lessons you'd be able to learn from this book as well. We were able to witness a kind of love story from a deep-rooted hatred from Snow's Aunt, Maria Emilia, towards Sibal's father, Achilles.

This wasn't my favorite book in the 3rd generation series (My personal favorite was Island of Fire which is the 3rd book of the series) but this book holds a special place in my heart, because a Galvez-Riego story served as the beginning of a new series. As JSL's said, from "Malapit na tayong dumaong" to "Dumaong na tayo..."

The Costa Leona Series will always be my greatest love among Ate J's work. <3

Since this is the very first book of this series I’m just gonna leave the problems I have with this series here (I genuinely have no one to talk to about this lol. Also, I’ve only read up to the 6th book).

As someone who’ve read these when I was a minor/ young adolescent etc. I’ve genuinely enjoyed it and if you were to ask me how would I rate this back then I would say it’s a 5 star read… that was like 3? 4? years ago now I have turned into an adult and well.

I have a big problem with the age gaps of the characters like why? Why is it like this? Can we not? Main characters meet when the female lead are very much younger and the guy is very much older and most of the times they form romantic relationships which is very icky can we not romanticise pedophilia…

If you’ve read enough CLS books you can definitely see a pattern on the stories. Albeit, I very much enjoy the latter parts of the story because both characters are FULL GROWN ADULTS, I hate hate hate the earlier parts because of its pedophilic nature. I just pretend that that part of that story never existed honestly.

I love the flow of this story. Alam ko maraming readers na ang nakabasa nito pero isa lang ang masasabi ko, among cls stories ito yung pinaka favorite ko sa lahat, although i like the others. The plot of the story is unpredictable. As in hindi ka magsasawa na basahin.

I appreciate the characters for being natural. Sibal's being professional to his work is lovely even that snow have feelings for him. He chose to be professional for his family. And snow is good for being the acting president of their resort. She values each of her employee kahit na meron pa siyang pagka immature that time. I know because of her age.

For the future chapters, i love their character development. The story became more mature not sexually but their character is. Kahit na ngayong 2021 super common na ng plot dahil marami na rin na stories na naglabasan. Hindi pa rin maaalis na ito yung story na hindi mo basta basta malilimutan. Given that this story was written years ago. I still love it.

Reading Jonaxx books indeed takes time, interest, and emotional stability. If you’re not into stories with main characters having such a big age gap, then mind as well not read. No one’s forcing you to. This story (or the series in general), talks about pure love despite family conflicts, status, and problems. I love how it teaches me not to love, knowing how i haven’t claim success with me yet to brag. This book introduced me to the painful battle of love between Marem and Achilles, it plays a big role in the whole series tho. Not only that, the writing style? The book’s setting? The way Kwin J(Authornim) describes? Ohhhh! This is heaven. I can never ask for anything better. How i love nature.

PS: I’ve heard a lot about readers hating on the series because of AG, like? This is a fiction bae, wut’s the problem? It’s not reality. Nothing’s impossible. Do not ever blame Jonaxx for writing stories like that, it’s her choice. This is fiction, and her story.

Bago ko basahin ang pangwalo, which is Sunburned Heart, i realized i should start reading Scorching Love first.

Pero eventually, I'm loving it. Kaya natuwa ako nang natapos ko. Worth the read!

I learned something from this book. No matter what circumstances you are in, you must choose what is the best not only for you but the people who surrounds and loves you. I'm amazed how Sibal didn't bother to resist when he's getting arrested because he knows that he is at fault, also the feud between his father and Snow's aunt is the opening of the series. I think its the opening of huge series that love, hatred and many things that happened in the past which affected this generation. From snow, I learned how much weigh she had as the elder and manages the whole resort. She didn't have a choice yet she made it bloom because Snow have to be independent and she did, she showed me how I can and must handle myself.

I have read a few other stories by Jonaxx before starting Scorching Love and I have read more after. I first read this six years ago and decided to read it again. The kilig is still there, the lines and life lessons are subtle that I barely noticed them the first time I read it as a teenager, but are more eminent now that I did not focus on the love alone. I really liked how she subtly added characters from succeeding stories while making them mysterious and anonymous. The build up from Scorching Love on Marem and Achilles’ story is something that entices me, even if I already read their story. Jonaxx was able to build up the drama and scenes without fully opening it, hence, the reason why readers like me are intrigued.

Some typos here and then but I really love it!

binasa ko tuloy yung sinasabi nilang lavender lace, para ma-compare kung totoo nga. In the end I found out naman na subrang layo ng writing style ng dalawa, like hindi ko ramdam yung sinasabi nila, not truly the same vibe, diko bet yung third point of view yung sa sweetheart series, mas gusto ko yung main characters ang may pov, because the experience feels more real and felt.Bukod doon, kung iko-compare naman ang personalities ng main characters between two books are also very different. Siguro dahil na rin sensitive na generation na’to, mas refined yung mga characters that are written. Anyways, both books has its own beauty naman rin, but I won’t have ya’ll looking down on this series, it is well written.

My first Jonaxx Book ❤❤❤

All I can say is that ang ganda niya sobra!!!

A typical Filipino Romance Story with lots of Drama in my opinion. It's not a bad thing but in fact I can say that it was really great!

Sanay kasi ako sa usual na teleserye na umaabot ng ilang linggo na punong puno ng kadramahan. But this book was a mind opener for me to start reading Filipino Books again. Not because of the ending where the guy gets the girl, yung usual na Filipino Ending. But there was something about the way the story was written that made me read the next book and the next.

This book is definitely worth reading along with it's series.

the only lovable character in this story is Maria Emilia and the best decision she ever made: have that Sibal guy behind bars. good for him. a grown ass man having se*x with a 17 year old? Yeah, Boi. That's statutory r*pe for you! good riddance!

but wait.

so, you think justice was served? nah. You can't expect that from an author like this one. Ofcourse the girl begged for the guy's release, since he didn't forced her, awhh 🙄 so in the end, they got back together and live happily ever after.

I don't really like how the story started. I dislike how Snow's character was built. I expected her to be intimidating, bitch ass girl but responsible. She grew without her mother and been one for his brother. I think she's independent and can handle herself well that's why I thought she will not be swayed easily by her emotions, but I was wrong.

The big gap in their age turned me off as well. I just hate that something happened between them already while Snow was still 17 years old - a minor. Even if Snow consented him to do so, it's still not a good move for Sibal to do such thing with her. He fucking deserves to be jailed.

Also, the jealousy is too much. I don't know if I will feel butterfly in my stomach or puke with their endless jealousy.

It's the first book of the series so I think I can consider it until I have the grasp of the whole series itself.
