A solid guide to tapping maple trees and making your own maple syrup. Some of the instructions are a little confusing and I feel like I have to distill it down by writing my own protocol. But, on the whole, it covers everything from how maple trees make the sugary sap to begin with, to tree identification, tapping the trees, collecting the sap, boiling the sap, and storage of the final product. There's even a section about tapping alternatives to the maple tree, like birch, black walnut, hickory, and sycamore. none of them seem appealing though. Maple syrup recipes included at the end.
