These scorching hot historical romances contain darker, angsty themes and frequent love scenes with frank sexual language, description, aspects of light BDSM and aspects of abuse in the characters’ backstories. Approx. 1500 pages. A Measured He is her most dangerous temptation. Now he’s demanding her submission. Dare she take the risk? Emotionally scarred in the horrific accident that took her husband's life, Lady Cranfield is imprisoned by her lingering terror of horses and carriages. She’s fascinated by the Earl of Ruel. Ruel instantly senses that shy Lady Cranfield could be the sweetest, most submissive experience of a lifetime-if only he can gain her total and complete trust. He offers his help in return for her submission and obedience. Neglected as a child by her ducal parents then later ignored by her handsome, charming husband, Lady Cranfield learnt to protect her heart at all costs. She trusts no one but herself. Necessity thrusts them back into Society. There are those who will stop at nothing to tear apart the fragile bond between the newlyweds. As external foes close ranks, how will Lady and Lord Ruel learn to overcome their personal demons and trust each whilst keeping their love, and her sanity, intact? ~ Perilous Blackmailed by a vicious, powerful aristocrat, common-born, gentle-natured Rebecca Howland is in desperate need of help. From the shadows steps forth a man offering her aid--a man she once rejected. A changed man with a dark, mysterious past. Stephen Drake lost Rebecca long ago. Now a spy for the Crown, with power, funds and a title, he's been assigned to follow Rebecca. His old passion for her flares and his darkly erotic side—one he's fought to keep hidden for many years--awakens with a vengeance. This time, he’s determined to possess her forever. The Delicate Matter of Lady Driven to the brink of madness by love for her late husband, a young man too ill to meet the demands of the marriage bed, Lady Blayne teeters on the brink of scandal. Now she faces the temptation of a man she once rejected—husband’s cousin and heir, James, the new Lord Blayne. His sensual appeal, iron will and stern self-mastery fascinates her. What if sensual indulgence is the only way out of her darkness? However, those she loves the most control the young widow through manipulation and coercion. Honor bound to protect Lady Blayne, James will not risk his heart. He must wed a socially appropriate heiress. Scandalously self-indulgent Lady Blayne won’t do. Yet the pretty girl he once knew has grown into a beautiful, curvaceous woman—every man’s dream. Especially his. ~ Miranda’s Poised to become Mayfair’s most expensive courtesan, Miss Miranda Jones finds her rise inexplicably blocked by a socially powerful nobleman. Scorned by her ducal father and determined to attain everything that life has denied her, she’s not about to let this arrogant earl stop her. Adrian Sutherland, the Earl of Danvers, saw his father destroyed by a heartless, predatory courtesan.
I appreciate the litany of characters and their development throughout the story. Each is well rounded and relatable on many levels. The more intimate moments are steamy and quite well written! If you’re looking for an escape, look no further! Highly recommended!
Anne, Countess of Cranfield, Fights to overcome the trauma of her husband’s death in a carriage accident. She lives with her late husband’s family but has withdrawn from society.
Jonathon, Lord Ruel, has planned his life to the smallest detail. When they meet, much happens to derail his best-laid plans.
Set in a time when there was little understanding of the workings of human minds, the plight and confusion, the erotic attraction, and the ensuing actions throw a glaring light on the period. A Measured Risk is written with insight, compassion, and a touch of romance.
Trust Me
In Trust Me, Ms Blackthorne develops the characters of A Measured Risk further. Her perception and vision make a strong case for humans’ right to live and love as they must.
Perilous Risk
Rebecca Howard was once Lord Ruel’s mistress. Earlier, she learned to be beholden to her father and husband. Can she break out of her servitude and find love with an old friend?
Stephen Drake, a Baron, has a speckled past. Can he overcome it?
These two have known one another since he was eighteen and she was married to a man who didn’t appreciate her.
Their dilemma has strong undertones of unrequited lust and forsaken love.
Ms Blackthorn presents believable characters and unusual predilections. A born storyteller, she pulls the reader into the interim between Regency and Victoria’s reign.
The Delicate Matter of Lady Blayne
Lady Blaine, called Sunny but named Catriona, is the widow of an invalid. Her life and erotic cravings have never been fulfilled.
The current Baron, James Lord Blayne, cousin of Sunny’s late husband, must entangle a messy situation to find out the background of Sunny’s apparent illness.
Dr Meeker has been called in to heal Sunny, but is he the right person to do so?
Again, the reader gets drawn into a murky erotic setting, with under or overtones of violence.
Miranda’s Dilemma
Miranda Jones has been educated in the intricate courtesan vocation. Is she haughty and lecherous, or is she naïve and mostly innocent?
Adrian Sutherland, Earl of Danvers, has much reason to believe she is callous. Will he find out what is behind her frosty demeanour?
Ms Blackthorn paints a stark picture of courtesans’ dependency, their perilous life, and their need for a powerful protector. A dark tale of blackmail, violence, and dependency, but perhaps some recompense.
‘Seduction and Surrender’ is absorbing and revealing. The dark erotic character of an era has found its voice in Ms Blackthorn.
Entertaining, keep me intrigued and I couldn’t stop reading. Refreshing all the main women was not virgins and they was able to stand tall and be proud of who they are. I like all 4 stories tied together somehow.
All of her books are a balance of the best characters, dialog, story, sex and romance xxxxxxxx hate amazon reviews with their minimum amount of words thingy. It just shows you that if you do write a review it's for a special author
I might go back and finish but I'm not sure... I tried soo damn hard to like Anne but over and over she seemed determined to prove Bill Engvall's joke right "You don't have be dumb,to be stupid." That's statement was Anne all over to me.... Intellectually brilliant (possibly) but soo stupidly stubborn at times she was damn near self destructive ( Jon saw this, but it wasn't really hiding itself either), at times I swear she was soo stubbornly rebellious you could tell her to run right and she'd go left just for spite even it ran her off a cliff and while she was falling she'd alternate between cursing herself and cursing you and promise she'd NEVER be soo foolish again and next time she got pissed or vexed to it all over again... Now between her emotional abuse and neglect as a child and her nature I kinda got/understood where she was coming from but she was very, very slow to learn anything or sometimes at all from her mistakes and I kept reading hoping we'd both have that "A Ha" moment where she grew up and I Finally grew to like her.... I liked Jon for the most part, even though he like her seemed very conflicted on what he wanted and though he realized parts of it 1st,he too fought his feelings a bit to hard at times.... What really got me was what brought on the (so called light f/f) Anne gets Jon to rescue a injured dog in the woods and they end up at a her neighbor and Jon's ("friend") ( freakin perve ) estate... And quite honestly their behavior there was what did me in... Jon's always going on and on about how Anne's soo special and part of "specialness" is that the debauched world he's soo happily apart ( sex club on roids) ( drugs + drinking + anything goes attitude) of in not something she's a part of, she's fresh and unspoiled like that,so what does he do ? He abuses his role in her life and ( ironically doesn't try to protect her from herself ,even though that's supposedly he's one of the reasons he's soo determined to stay w/her) leaves her alone w/toxic punch he's knows she'll be bad about drinking too much ( intelligent but TSTL) ( let's drunk w/a bunch of strangers sexing everything in sight for each other's viewing pleasure)( smart) because he's playing bi sexual pimp to his current fiancée .. I just somehow had guessed that's where the "brief f/f touching" was gonna come from, but I'd hoped it would be over more quickly than it was and a) was earlier in the story to get it over w/ and b) definitely not under Jon's orders and direction.. That soured me on him 100%... He was trying to force Anne into a position she was NEVER meant for, a mistress to sometimes share w/his future wife ? Eeeeewwww... ( I'm not for m/m and I'm sure as Hell not into f/f) but for the H try try and "share" his love interest h w/any one would turn me off... But w/another woman ? Aaaaaaa No!! It's all Mine! Mine! Mine! Til I command otherwise ? No! Of course stupid Anne w/the sense of a rebellious 5 yr.old drink too much toxic punch ( that could have killed her) and high as a kite was of course turned on and had me skimming to get away, Jon shouldn't have needed to watch one lover trying to seduce another one too "see" this was ALL wrong for Anne and not what he really wanted... He acted just as bad the next day when he made her go down on him in a jealous snit in front of another guy just to prove his control over her yet again .... Anne then finally refuses something when he demands she marry him but while I was glad she did ( he soo didn't deserve her at the time) her inability to pick the right times to have good/decent sense or what battles to pick was my last straw... Warned: this was "proper" D/s relationship or not the sick, shallow, selfish way Jon treated and mistreated and push and controlled her at that place was just wrong from not protecting her from herself from that damn punch and her alcoholic inclinations to the things he got her to do as her pseudo Dom..... After that I soo little respect for either of them I didn't give a damn what happened next to either of them... Personally I'd have been happy to see her jump that cliff and Jon follow after.. I only discovered Ms.Blackthorn's book last week and while I came to despise both Jon and Anne,I still love her deeply complex yet sensual, often erotic characters.... And while I liked How much Jon and Anne tried to talk to each other unlike Beth and Grey in another story of hers, like Anne said there was too much listening w/ out hearing even sadly to their own overblown, over much ( WAY TOO MUCH) inner angst ... Not giving on Ms.Blackthorn but I believe I am on the 1st 3 stories in this book... Shame it has that useless page flip but not a true table of contents....
