The Protector Bugs are an elite group of bugs that protect children from things that go bump in the night. Jared the mosquito and Sheldon the Ant want nothing more than to join the troops and help out. However, three big beetle brothers stand in their way. On the day of the tryouts Jared and Sheldon learn what it really means to be a Protector Bug.

A fun story that highlights the importance of making the right choices and that the right choices can be the hardest. First of all, I love the idea that the bugs we usually perceive as being annoying or hurtful are presented as protectors of children. This is a great way to introduce the importance of bugs to kids. In addition, Jared and Sheldon show qualities of kindness, friendship, determination and sacrifice. Bright, bold and fun pictures will be sure to keep children's attention. While my son was a little too young to grasp the message of the story, this book is perfect for children aged 2-7.

The Protector Bug: The Tryouts is the second installment in the Protector Bugs series. Without having read book one, it’s still very easy to follow, though. It’s a perfect book for kids with wonderful illustrations and a cute storyline.

Sheldon, an ant, and Jared, a mosquito are trying out to become “Protector Bugs”. During the tryouts, they have to overcome challenges, which bring their own specific troubles for each of them. The focus is on overcoming self-doubt, and it’s a beautiful message. There’s also a focus on friendship, helping others, and working together.

The illustrations were wonderful, and very colorful too. Kids will love this book.

Really cute story and has a awesome moral to it. It teaches kids they can do anything they set their minds to and they can be anything they want to be.

The story is about Jared the Mosquito and Sheldon the Ant. Jared and Sheldon want to be protector bugs. Everyone tells them they are to small, even Sheldon's Father tells him so. In the end without even trying their dream does come true.

The pictures in this book are very cute and interesting to children and the story is short so not to loose small children's attention. I read this to my 2 year old Grand Son and 4 year old Grand Daughter and they both enjoyed the story very much.

Delightful story, Beautiful Illustrations

This is the perfect story to share with a child who needs a bit of encouragement to dream big. The theme is "You can be anything you want, if you dream big and are willing to work hard," told in a charming fable which will also help alleviate any fear of insects. The illustrations are so beautiful I found myself wanting to frame them! My only quibble is that on my Kindle Fire, the text formatting was off enough to eliminate spaces and overlap words. Tough going on the reading, but clearly worth the effort.
