You want to be a better writer? You can be. With wit and intelligence, this book—used both in the classroom and at home—has what it takes to simplify writing, so students at any level can become skilled writers. Simplified Writing 101 chapters cover how to choose powerful words; words not to use in academic writing; the art and rhythm of the powerful sentence; how to write for strong essays; tips and tricks for correct punctuation and grammar usage; how to brainstorm and organize academic essays and papers; how to write and revise your work; and how to create the final writing product for any academic course. I read this book for my English class and it seriously has some of the best writing tips--all written in a very easy to read style. This has shaped the way I view my writing. Even though we're not assigned to read it anymore, I still return to it for tips... and give it to my younger siblings to read.
And, yes, Mrs. Conroy, you shouldn't use "it" that many times. I figure if you can get away with an informal style in the book, I can get away with an informal style in an unsponsored Goodreads review. :)
Simplified Writing 101 is the writing tutorial I wish I’d had as an undergraduate. As it was, I struggled through English classes, not really understanding, but Brown Conroy makes writing guidelines and rules crystal clear, and it all seems so simple. Use it as an introductory writing guide or keep it as a reference, but this tutorial is a must have for your personal library. It will see you through your academic career and beyond.
