Trigger Warning: This book contains scenes of abuse that may be difficult for some readers.
T. believes words are our greatest form of magic. And making magic is what she loves best. But when it's time to put the words aside, T. enjoys drinking whiskey with her tribe, eating pretzels with Nutella, watching and reading as many stories as she can, especially romances, and traveling wherever the wind takes her–sometimes all at once. She also loves a sturdy (but cute) pair of cowgirl boots, is hoping to one day build a log cabin with her Man Bear, and she writes Urban Fantasy as well as Paranormal, Contemporary, and MC Romance.

This book surprised me on so many levels, it was beautifully written, from page one I was gripped and could not put the book down, needing to know the fate of the characters. T. Birmingham captured this so well and had you laughing, crying and feeling the struggle of these people. This book is book one of what I feel will be an amazing series, this is the beginning of something that could go on forever and bring the magical world to many people. If you liked twilight and Mortal Instruments then this is your new series
The Devil’s Pride (Wild Beasts Series) T. Birmingham
Wow. This book was amazing for new paranormal/urban romance writer T. Birmingham. I’m a big fan of paranormal stories and this series has all the makings of being a new favorite. Supernatural books can sometimes get complicated with so many supernatural races being thrown into a story. But T. Birmingham has written a story that not only will suck you in from page one but leave you shaking your head just when you thought you knew what was going to happen. Alexia is different. Red hair and red eyes, her life in the foster care system has left her just wanting to belong. Now that she is older and has been accepted for her differences, her life seems to be settling down. Her best friend Mindy has always been her biggest supporter and the one person who has the ability to calm her when needed. But her life is about to be upended by a series of brutal murders in her town of Monteville, NY. What is draining these people of their blood and why is it happening? She is about to find out the truth to her unusual appearance courtesy of a tall, dark, and extremely handsome man-bear. Devon has come back to Monteville to help figure out why the murders are happening. Reunited with his twin brother Cam, aka Mindy’s boyfriend, he is about to shake up the truth of who and what they all are. A world that revolves around Light and Dark Clans. A world where a redhead with red eyes is not unheard of. Where Light and Dark Clans don’t mix. All of that is about to change when Devon meets Alexia. Though hardly love at first sight, their chemistry is off the charts which makes this story even that much better. This book had me guessing. Just when I thought I had things figured out, T. Birmingham would throw me off and make the story that much more intriguing. The story flowed so easily and it was hard to have to go to sleep while reading it. So yes, I blame T. Birmingham for the bags under my eyes. It’s a “just one more page/chapter” kind of book that has you reading all night. So thank you T. Birmingham for an amazing new paranormal series! I for one cannot wait to see where these characters and you will take us. Congrats on your first book!!
The Devil's Pride (Wild Beasts Series) By: T. Birmingham 5 out of 5 stars
The story The Devil's Pride (Wild Beasts Series) by T. Birmingham is a paranormal romance book. Alexia Maria Garda-Martinez has been called a demon since she was put in foster care and state homes. Now she is carving out a life for herself. Then a ritualistic murder hits the small college town of Montville, New York. Now Alexia is thrown into a world that has her questioning who she is. Is she really the monster that everyone though? The world of the Light Clans and the Skrom, who are Dark, collide. Although she is not alone in this fight will she and her new allies be able to stop those who want darkness to prevail?
This book is awesome. By the standards of a paranormal romance story I would like to give it a 10. The story grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. I also love how before the story starts you are given basic terms that are used in the book and also a brief history on each of the Clans. The Clans are also explained a little more in depth throughout the book as well as family lines. Finding out who you are and accepting it is what a lot of the story is about. There are also scenes that describe abuse that some of the characters have endured. The scenes help you to understand a little more about some of the characters and why they have ended up where they are. I felt the issue was done in a sensitive manner. There are more characters in this book an you can shake a stick at. That however doesn’t mean that they are unnecessary. Quite the opposite is true. Each one lays a part of the books foundation and I would have a hard time, if I even could, asked to pick ones that were not a great addition to the story.
If you love paranormal romance this is the book for you. If you’re looking at the book and wondering if it’s a good fit for you I would recommend reading it. It is a wonderful example of how the genre is written. There are sexy, romantic scenes, murder and scenes for abuse. I would recommend readers to be 18 years of age or older.
The Devil’s Pride (Wild Beasts Series) T. Birmingham – 4 stars
After I read this book, I looked up the author to see what part of the series I read. This is author T. Brimingham’s first book. Wow!!
The Devil’s Pride is a Shapeshifting, Paranormal Romance. . The roots of the clans featured in this book run deep. Thousands of years old. Like all good romances, there is a key in the front of the book explaining who each “family” (clan) is and where their allegiances lie. I read it first (because it’s always good to start a book on page 1..lol) and never had to refer back to it. As each character or clan was introduced, there was enough explanation to follow along and not break the rhythm of reading.
The town of Montville is a sleepy college community which gets shaken to its core when a beloved college professor and his family is murdered in what appears to be a ritualistic way.
Alexia is a college student working on her advanced degree. She has curves, red hair, and unique eyes and was adopted by 2 very loving families after growing up in the foster care system.
Devon is a big, brooding guy, the black sheep of his adopted family. He took off on his twin brother and their adoptive family at the age of 16. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
When Alexia and Devon meet there is an undeniable spark, but he’s mean to her and she’s “all set” with that type of behavior.
There are other characters purposefully and wonderfully introduced during the telling of the story. This is a well-crafted, efficient story that had me turning page after page to find out who is who and what is what.
This story involves a mystery, romance, paranormal shape shifting, and so much more. I do not want to give details because I loved watching how everything unfolded and I think it enhanced my reading experience.
Paranormal is not my go to read, but I will be sure and follow the author so I don’t miss her future publications.
Rate: 5 Stars Title & Author: The Devil Pride By T. Birmingham Writing: Great Violence: Some Sex: Some
This book completely surprises me, when I was thinking that it might just go one way it doesn’t. I love the fact that no matter how you think you figure things out, the book takes a different turn and surprises you even more.
I absolutely love Alexis best friend Mindy, she is hilarious, and very entertaining to read about. When I first started the book I was thinking I cannot wait to read Mindy book and find out about her lover Cam and her. But I was very taken back, and happy when I found out that this book splits into a four-part character book. You have Alexis and Devon story, as well as Mindy and Cam in the same book. How much better can this book get? And I’m more than happy to say way better.
These four belong to one another, the hardships that they experience is just too much. I was so angry, and sad for what happen to them. I do not know who I was even more sad for Alexis or the twin brothers. We all know that living in as an orphan isn’t easy, and neither living in an adoption home. But what these three has gone through is so heart breaking that I really felt emotional over it. My heart just cries for all of them, but despite the rough up bringing for them they come together to beat the shadows.
This is the first time that I’ve T. Birmingham books and I really enjoyed this book. The Devil Pride deserves more than five stars, but sadly that’s how far the limit goes. I love the fact that after the chapters, T. Birmingham has an information area where she explains more about the words she uses in the story. This will come in handy, if you’re like me while your reading the book you’ll often forget what clan is what and have to go back to that page to help you.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
"Thousands of years ago, the Skrom split off from the Light Clans and became Dark. Their greed for blood consumed them. Their once orange eyes bled to red, and they became one of the demons of legend. And when they die, they do not rest. They haunt. The take. They devour. Their souls become Shadows. Darkness. Death.
Alexia Maria Garda-Martinez was born a monster. Red hair. Red eyes. Pale skin. And nowhere to call home. But after years of foster care and state homes, she has finally found her niche. A family. A promising career. And a life that’s fulfilling.
When a brutal, ritualistic murder hits too close to home in her small, college town of Montville, New York, Alexia is pulled into a world of good versus evil that will have her questioning who she is and whether she really is the freak, the monster so many have thought.
But she is not alone in this fight.
The Skrom and the Shadows are closing in, and Alexia and the Light Clans must stop the darkness at all costs. Will she be able to fight her darker instincts, or will the devil inside of her draw her into its seductive web?"
Sounds awesome? Well it is. This book hooked me in from page one. A whole family murdered!? Well who killed them.
So Alexis is the main character. She's the girl with red eyes. She has a best friend Mindy, who is awesome. Mindy has Cam. And then you have Devon.
This book will surprise you with it's twists and turns. You will be guessing how it ends the whole way through. It's sexy, fun, action packed, and just all around good book.
*** WARNING SPOILERS*** The Devils Pride by T. Birmingham gets 5 out of 5 stars from me! Unfortunately I cannot rate it more than 5 stars otherwise I totally would! Set in Montville, a typical college town where best friends Alexia and Mindy are taking classes at Montville University. Everything was fine before their Professor Loren Anderson and his entire family is murdered in unexplained circumstances. Mindy is interning under Lead Coroner Caty Rios and tries to help her boyfriend Detective Cam Waters solve the murder using her intuitive gifts. However just before things can start to make sense more secrets, mysteries, and family deaths pop up. Alexia, Mindy, Cam and his twin Devon work together with the Clans to stop the persons responsible for the chain of events happening in their town. I definitely fell in love with this book after the first chapter! However use the glossary at the beginning of the book, I normally do not but I promise it will be helpful for the first few chapters as this book has a lot of terminology. Birmingham did an amazing job with the writing style, the characters, the supernatural aspects, and the magic in this book! Definitely pulled out ALL of the stops for this one! I cannot wait to see this turned into a series (please turn this into a series) and I can tell by the ending that the next book will be just as spectacular! If you have the 1 Click buying setting USE IT and buy this book, I promise you will not be disappointed!
This book was literally off the charts, there is nothing I could compare it too! 5 Stars!! This story was one where you had to pay attention, it was so complex and engaging. It follows the traditional good vs evil, if that is your kind of book, then this will definitely be your kind of book! I'm going to keep this completely spoiler free and just try to sum this up because in leaking some details, it will almost ruin the story.
It starts by following Alexia, a young woman who has a very traumatic circumstances, and she gets led into a new life full of mystery and darkness. This story allows us as readers to take this strange ride with her. She begins to unravel parts of both herself and the world. T. Birmingham does an amazing job crossing the conventional story line. There's romance, horror and tons of suspense tied into this story. The characters and their dialogue and development within each other, even down to the minor details, it only makes the big picture/story even greater. As each chapter ends, more things come out in the open and even more twists are made. You cannot at any point in this book guess what is going to happen next.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this book. T. Birmingham has a way of writing that kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put this book down, I had to know everything. Who was evil? Who did it? Who's going to turn evil? Amazing job!
This was the first book I have ever read from T. Birmingham. It is from the fantasy and paranormal realm. Light clans and dark. This magical mystery heightened my senses. What's in my own mind? What's in my own backyard? Are these things really fiction? I truly felt engage while reading. Alexia Maria Garda Martinez believes herself to be a monster, demon freak of a person. Shuffling from foster home to home always feeling pain and unwanted. She's always felt different with a head full of bright red hair and glowing red eyes certainly gave her that notion. Finding her best friend, Mindy in college she felt happy. All Alexia has ever wanted was to be apart of a family. She believes she has found her happiness. Now, we all know nothing is puppies and rainbows. Neither one of them knowing of abilities to another world everything seemed all good. However when a dangerous mystery comes to their town it takes them and other friends pulling together to figure out what's happening. This becomes good vs. bad. Letting her inner struggles come to fruition she has to discover which side she'll be on. Reading this tale of the good, the bad and the ugly I was mesmerized in a crazy, yet beautiful HOT and sexy magical wonderland. I wouldn't mind reading more of these books. Knowing “The Devil’s Pride is the first in it's series makes me really happy with anticipation of carrying on my new fascination that T. Birmingham brings to the table.
The Devils Pride (wild Beast Series) by T. Birmingham is book is about the supernatural that some people don't believe. The darkness that only the one with gifts can see or feel! Its also about a long so strong its destiny!!!! You will read about different characters and you will be thinking What If!! Alexia, Mindy, Devon, and Cam are caught up in things you wouldn't think are real but they seen "shadows" with their own eyes. Each one of them have a special gift that most don't have. Devon and Cam are mirror twins, who were separated as teenager because their adopted father thought Devon was an evil spirit, which he is not but Devon left as a teenager not knowing what he was leaving his twin to deal with. You will learn what happen to each twin while separated. Is it possible that each person is someone's soul mate?? If so will each of them find the one person that they are meant to be with that will make them whole. If you ever watched ghost whisperers you will love this book!!!! Yes its about the unknown of what people with gifts can do and become but also you will learn about ever lasting love.. The pain the had to each go through to become the "person" they are now. Can two people be together if they have different gifts??? Is it allowed?? What happens if they can't stop the feelings??? Fate? Tragic? Love? You will read it all!! I give this book five stars!
Alexia has been treated as “evil” most of her life due to the unusual colour of her eyes, combined with her flowing red hair. But with her best friend Mindy and her cop boyfriend Cam she was never on her own with “feelings” that just weren’t standard issue. Then with the arrival of Cam’s Twin they learn that they are not alone in this world and are introduced to Magic and the world of Clans. This is a paranormal book with a romantic element, however it is not all gooiness and sex on every page, which I really enjoyed as it let me get to know the characters as the story developed and also made the bond between characters believable.
Alexia and Mindy’s banter is brilliant and to have two alpha females in a book was a great change of the normal Man. The story revolves around all the characters, even though Alexia and Devon take up the main story-line, you learn all about the others during the course of events that bring them all together.
I really enjoy paranormal novels and was hooked with this one from the first chapter and it helped that a glossary of terms was at the very beginning so that you could refer to this if you got a bit lost with the terminology. I felt the story flowed and came to an ending that I did not see coming, I’m sure that this will be a great series and I for one will be picking up the others to see how the other character’s stories unfold.
The Devil’s Pride is a truly captivating book that will have you hooked from start to finish. T. Birmingham has created a world that is scary and so wonderful at the same time. In this book Alexia is living her life, a life that she is actually enjoying for once after a not so good childhood. Suddenly she is thrown into a world that she was not thinking was possible. For Alexia it all started with some very vivid dreams that she thought came from out of nowhere, but soon realizes that they are all connected. When a murder hits close to home she realizes that not everything is what she thinks it is. She is forced to start working with people that she thought never existed. She must work with the Light Clans to make sure that darkness does not take over everything, but darkness is closing in and there may not be a way to stop it all. This book had me hooked from the start, I was consistently wondering who was good and who was bad. Plus the smexy scenes that were promised were spot on and made the book so much better. I absolutely loved Alexia and her roommate, they made me laugh with the banter they had, I actually have had similar conversations with my best friend, so it made it all the more better. I highly recommend this to everyone that likes hot, action packed, mysteries. You will not be disappointed!
FIVE STARS T. Birmingham really captivated me with this book. Fantasy, shape-shifters, murders, sex, and mystery. Disclaimer: there are very graphic sex scenes in this book. The details and descriptions of murders are also very graphic. Not for weak or young readers. Alexia lives with her roommate and best friend Mindy. They attend the same college and work at the same bar. Mindy is in love with Cam a police dective. Cam is a twin, Devon is Cam's twin. At the age of 10 they were adopted and lived like kings until their adopted mother got sick and their adopted dad blamed them for being evil. At the age of 13 the boys started getting beatings for the littlest of things. They had a horrible upbringing Devon ran away his sophomore year of high school. Cam is trying to solve a murder case and after 15 years he is face to face with his twin. Who did the killings? Who is responsible. Alexia has all these weird things happening to her body and mind and she is unsure what it is all about. But she is not alone in finding out. She has the help of those like her. (sorry for the vagueness trying to not add any spoilers). A lot of things are explored and discovered and uncovered in this story. T. Birmingham does and awesome job of making fantasy into real life. I really look forward to reading more of the Wild Beasts Series.
For those who are seeking a complex and engaging story that transcends the conventional good vs. evil tropes, this one is for you. The book follows Alexia, a young woman whose past is marred by traumatic circumstances as she is led into a new world full of intrigue, mystery, and darkness. The story allows you, the reader, to ride along with her on a strange and fantastic journey as she begins to unravel parts of herself and a world that she thought she once knew. T. Birmingham does a great job cross-lining conventional story genres. There are strong elements of romance, suspense, and horror tied into this paranormal mystery that examines issues on identity and belonging. Additionally to that, there is a great command of dialogue and character development. Throughout the book, it is easy to see that each character, no matter how minor, is influential to the big picture of the story. It does a great job illustrating how relationships and events, no matter how small, can ultimately shape the most definitive aspects of one's identity and future. As each chapter ends, more worlds open and newer twists are turned, taking the reader to places where anything is truly possible in both miraculous and sinister ways.
The Devil’s Pride By T. Birmingham. I give this book 5/5 stars. Birmingham has really outdid herself. The theme of this book is 2 sifters fall for each other. This is the first book in a series. Alexia is different from other people with her red hair and eyes. She is considered evil because of it. Her life is flipped over when she meets her family she didn't know she had. The quote I chose for her describes her man-bear: “He was honest-to-a-fault, brave, more loyal than was probably good for him, and a truly kind-hearted soul.” Devon is a shifter who had a rough life and had to leave his only family behind. He sees his Red as an enemy at first. His life is turned around when his only family was destroyed. The quote I chose for him is him being cautious of his Red: “So, you’re good if I let James know to set someone on your ex?” This is the first and only book I've read by Birmingham. I really liked every single thing about the book. I felt so much sadness throughout the book. I was instantly in the book from the very beginning. I highly recommend this if you like shifter romance. Check out this amazing author, series and any books she has.
Alexia is in college and all she really knows is that there are a lot of mysterious murders taking place around the town in which she lives. She was in an accident years prior and doesn't really seem to recall much from her past. She does remember some but not everything. When she meets Devon, the twin brother of Cam who is her roommates boyfriend, she knows there is a connection between the two of them. I should say that this is a paranormal romance so things are not always as they seem. As she learns of what she is, she learns that she has powers beyond what she originally thought due to her origins being different than what she originally thought them to be. As we go through this book different mysteries take place that lead to the third part of the book and show us exactly what is going on in this sleepy little town and that not everyone is who you may think them to be. Alexia and Devon are fated mates and are definitely meant to be together, and it is obvious throughout the book with the way that they protect one another. All of the people that you meet in this book are quite amazing and I hope that if you take the time to read this book that you love it as much as I did.
Wonderful novel with romance and unexpected twist and turns.
This novel is filled with love, mystery, humor and magic. It was not a quick read for me. I found myself reading it slowly to not miss the details of this new reality. I wanted to understand all the pieces that fit together so perfectly. I love the book cover as representations of the main characters. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I am excited to be the 1st to review this amazing book. I love the suspense and supernatural components. Thought to be something evil and not worth while Alexia struggles with exactly that, Can she over come her darkness.. Sexy Shifters, Clans, evil and mayhem... I can't wait for book #2 !!!

Wow. Just wow. That’s all.
Ok, you want more I assume. I absolutely, completely loved this book. I have found yet another author I just love. This book has everything you could want in a book. There is the supernatural happening all over this book: shifters, humans with other abilities, creatures both good and bad. There is hot and heavy, steamy romance. There is lots of action. There are wonderful moments, plus there are bad moments. There are many twists and turns in this book and you will be surprised at least a few times. The characters are so well written, you will feel like these are all people you know. You will get drawn into this book and not want to put it down. I want to bed hours after my bedtime because I couldn’t put the book down. You will not be disappointed if you buy this book. Have I mentioned this book is awesome?
The Devils Pride is the first book in the Wild Beast Series by T. Birmingham. This is a sexy “shifter” murder mystery- that has action, supernatural themes and paranormal elements. The Skröm separated from the Light Clans thousands of years ago- and became very dark. They were obsessed by their hunger for blood. This bloodlust turned them into demons, and their once magnificent orange eyes transformed to crimson. Death didn’t stop them, they just became shadows that haunt and devour, bringing darkness and death. Alexia Maria Garda-Martinez has carried the weight of being different to everybody else, her whole life. Always the brunt of jokes or the victim of teasing, she was called ‘demon’ and made to feel like an outcast. All because she has vibrant red hair and eyes the colour of rubies. Alexia bounced around from foster home to foster home and in and out of state care for a very long time, until finally a family took her in and welcomed her as one of their own. She has found herself in a good position; she’s in her niche, has a family and a fantastic friend- with a promising career ahead of her. Devon Waters ran away from home fifteen years ago, leaving behind horrific memories, but hoping that his absence would make life easier for his twin brother, Cam. He has discovered a lot in those fifteen years and has now returned to his home town of Montville, New York. Reunited with his brother, who is now a Detective with the local Police Department, Devon plans on sticking around. A brutal murder has got everyone on edge, as the ritualistic way the victims were killed and displayed, has raised a lot of questions and concerns. The little college town hasn’t seen such brutality before and it’s not long before Devon and Alexia are drawn into a world they could never have imagined. Where good versus evil and darkness versus light. This experience will have them questioning everything they thought they knew, even questioning themselves and who they really are. With the darkness closing in on them, Alexia and Devon must choose to join forces to stop the Skröm and the Shadows at all cost- there is too much at stake. As the story unfolds, will Alexia be able to resist her darker nature, or will she succumb to the seductive power it holds? Will good prevail, or will evil overwhelm them all? I don’t want to ruin the story by saying any more, except that this is a real page turner that you won’t want to put down. This is definitely not the story I was expecting from the blurb, it’s actually way better than I had hoped for. Ms. Birmingham has produced a really brilliant, riveting and original story. It was a little slow to ‘get going in the beginning, but after a couple of chapters the story picked up pace and flowed beautifully right through to the end. It was easy to read and held my interest the whole way. I read it in one sitting. The characters were original and cleverly crafted. They were interesting and likeable. I was intrigued by the whole ‘twin’ element, as they were both so different. A very intriguing read and I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Thousands of years ago, the Skröm split off from the Light Clans and became Dark. Their greed for blood consumed them. Their once orange eyes bled to red, and they became one of the demons of legend. Whew. This author should add to the disclaimer that you will indeed lose sleep, because you will want to finish this asap. Wow. Just wow. I can't even compare this book to anything. It's so unique and unlike anything I have read. What a fresh concept. This is the first I have read, or even heard of, this author. I am not disappointed. It's like Harry Potter, meets black dagger brotherhood, meets twilight all rolled into this awesome world. The complexities of the world and characters makes a great entertaining read. I was never not wondering what was going to happen next. Oh and tears. Some characters story just did not work out like I was hoping. But that’s life right, never goes as one would think it should. You really felt for some of the characters and the struggles they faced with being catapulted into this fantasy. Some took it like a champ, knowing that there must be something else out there. To say one took it poorly would be a understatement. Poor Cam. You really felt for him, until his nature won out, then you wanted to throttle him. I still am reserving hope for him yet. And just don't even get me started on mindy. I am not ready. I do think the glossary should be in the front, so it would be easier in the beginning. Yes there is a glossary. I know books that need glossary are usually so complex in its world building, ah they make the best reads. But yeah, in the front for sure so we can get used to the terminology used, as it's new to readers. And the scorch factor, is off the charts. Not one for the kids for sure, nothing vulgar or erotic, but there is heat and lots of sexy going on. You will get a taste of that right from the start. Go one click this now.
5 stars! The Devil’s Pride is the first book in the Wild Beasts series by T. Birmingham. This is the author’s debut novel and is amazing! I was hooked from the very first word. This is the second amazing paranormal book that I have read this week and these authors are certainly changing my mind about it becoming one of my favourite genres. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire way through because I just couldn’t work out what was going to happen and that ending – omg I totally did not see that coming and I even shed a few tears! The book overall was excellently written, the pace was fantastic, it kept my attention the whole way through in fact I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished. Some scenes in the story were really intense and that kept a level of angst running through the book which I enjoyed. I was glad that the author included a glossary of all the different terms – for me that really helped as I could understand what everything paranormal and fantasy meant! I also loved the originality of the story – it was really refreshing to read. In this story we meet Alexia and Devon, amongst a backdrop of wonderful secondary characters. Alexia is immortal, she doesn’t know but she suspects! She had a traumatic childhood – bounced around from foster home to foster home but now she is finally at appoint in her life where she is happy. She has a family and a promising career. Devon ran from his home 15 years ago and is now back reunited with his twin who is a detective in the local police department. I loved Alexia! She was an amazing character. I loved how she embraced her life however difficult it had been or was becoming. I loved her relationship with Mindy – they were so close and such wonderful friends – they had a great camaraderie between them. I loved her dreams at the beginning about ‘midnight’. Devon was a really interesting character for me. I wasn’t too sure about him in the beginning but by the end I loved him! He actually had a really deep character to him. I loved Alexia and Devon’s relationship – it was certainly a love/hate on to start with. Devon was pretty grumpy and not very nice to her but as the story progresses it’s pretty clear to see why he was that way. They certainly had a lot of sexual chemistry bubbling under the surface! I am so excited for the next book in this series! I cannot wait to see what happens next! Although the epilogue doesn’t end on a massive cliff-hanger there are so many unanswered questions going on in my head so I can’t wait to see if they get resolved in the coming book! Congratulations to the author on an amazing debut novel – I know there are only great things to come!
The Devil’s Pride (Wild Beasts Series Book 1) by T. Birmingham
5 Stars only because that's max, this is an off the star chart read.
Sad I'm done with this book, but happy because I can go right back to page 1 and read it again :)
I normally start a review talking about the characters of the book and leave my feelings to the end, but I am putting my feelings first for this one so everyone that doesn't hit the see more will still see them. I do not normally read paranormal romances or paranormal stories of any kind but this one for some reason caught my attention. I was scared because they normally don't hold my interest and I then don't finish the book, which I hate which is why I don't read them. THIS BOOK!!!! I don't even have words to tell you how good this book was written, it had me from page 1 and refused to let go till I was finished, and I don't feel like I took a breath throughout the entire story. This author is AMAZING, and I can not wait to pull up her website and grab anything there that's part of this series...I want more, and I'm sure you will too. So if you are anything like me and don't read this book because it's a paranormal story trust me and give it a shot..you will LOVE it!!
Alexia Maria Garda-Martinez has always known she was different, and if she didn't know it most everyone let her know by calling her a demon and showing fear when they looked at her. With her red eyes, blood red colored hair, and pale skin. She's lived for years in foster care and state homes, usually ending badly and forcing her on to the next, she thought she had a home until tragedy struck and she was without a home yet again, until the Martinez’s. Where she now has a family that she loves and that loves her. She has a great career, a full life and a wonderful best friend/roommate Mindy. Along with some very vivid dreams that she can not explain or forget about involving a dark, mysterious man she has named Midnight.
Devon Waters was forced to leave Montville, New York, and his twin brother Cam fifteen years ago. Now he is back trying to reconnect with his brother, who is a detective working on a case, a brutal family murder with unexplainable clues.
There are forces at work in this small town, a war between good and evil. All of the characters in this story are drawn into this war in one way or the other. The story focuses a lot on Devon and Alexia, but there are other characters as well that are just as important.
I can't even explain anymore of this book, because I could go on for days telling this story, all I will say is that it was outstanding and I do highly recommend it and the epilogue….ugh!!
Alexia Maria Garda-Martinez has always felt different, has always been different. That difference being pale skin, red hair and red eyes because of this she has always been looked at differently, especially because of the eyes. Alexia spent years in the foster system never knowing who her parents were or where she came from. She was given a home with a nice loving family, she has a job and is studying something she loves and has the best friend she could ever hope to have, that is like her sister, Mindy. All she needed was someone to love.
Devon Waters and his twin brother, Cam did not have the best childhood which caused Devon to flee from his home in Montville, New York. He was found by people he now calls family who helped him find his true self. Devon decides that it’s time for him to make amends with his brother and heads back to Montville. After being discovered at a gruesome murder scene he is reunited with his brother, who is a detective in the local police department. Cam is having trouble reconciling his feelings for a brother who left him behind but Devon doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon.
Alexia, Mindy and Cam find themselves in the middle of strange occurrences, murder and mayhem. They all have secrets that will leave them questioning just who and what they are. With Devon’s help they begin to understand just what they are up against. They discover there are many things in the world that good and evil, light and dark, friend and foe. The worst they discover is the Skrom who live by drinking blood, they became dark souls, Shadows. They have no respect for life, they take what they want, they are Death. They discover the Shadows now in their town and this leads to a battle that needs them to join forces to stop the evil taking over and destroying what they have come to love.
But who can they trust? Who is friend and who is foe? Will they be able to deal with who they are in time to fight this battle? Will love be enough to hold them together or will the darkness inside be too much to bear?
I enjoyed this story of murder, mystery and mayhem. Fantasy and paranormal in abundance. If you like paranormal romance then this is the book for you.
The Devil’s Pride: Wild Beast Series #1 T. Birmingham 5 Stars
“He knew who Alexia was to him. Because he’d been told the stories. Stories that said Light Clan members didn’t have to form bonds with just anyone; that in fact’ every Clan member had a fated mate as a gift from the gods or goddesses for the good they did during their time on the earth. Most mated older, around one hindered, but finding a fated mate was rare, and many had given up on finding their one and only. Devon knew from the few couples he had meet during his time in this world Alexia was his fated mate- and he was riding the crest of those fated mate tales all the way back to her side”
Alexia has been in foster care until she was 14 years old when the Martinez family adopted her. Her time in foster care left her with many mental and some physical scares. People her whole life looked at her as if she was a monster, kids have called her a monster. When she stared Montville University in Montville, NY, she meet her roommate and best friend Mindy Chaudhury. Mindy and Alexia whole world changed when a professor from the University and his family were found killed. Mindy’s boyfriend is the detective on the case and his twin brother has many secrets that will change everyone’s world.
Matthew Waters adopted Devon and Detective Cam. When Matthew’s luck started changing, he was convinced it was Devon’s fault. One night Devon left Cam behind in the Water’s home. Cam had a really hard time forgiving Devon for leaving and never coming back. Devon was coming to visit Cam and meet his girlfriend when he ended up being arrested. When Devon was let go, that night he went to meet Cams girlfriend and her best friend. Devon did not make a good first impression, when he went to apologizes he found her in trouble and that he was having feeling for her. Devon needed to find answers for everthing that was going on in the town and how to help his brother and Alexia.
I gave this book five stars, the author grabbed my attention and kept it through the book. This book has three parts, it is a long book so worth the read. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series. This is paranormal mystery romance; this book has more than vampires and werewolves.
The Devil's Pride is book 1 in the Wild Beast Series by T. Birmingham. It is a paranormal romance story, that I loved. At first, I was so lost, as there is so much to the story, but once I caught on, I was hooked. I cant wait to read the next book to see what happens now! Slow start, but 5 star book in the end. There are 4 main characters to this story, but SO MANY supporting characters, each with their own background, and connection to each other. I had a hard time following it for the first half, then around the mid point of the book, it all started to come together. I loved the writing style, as it was very descriptive and the characters seem to come to life. I dont know if Birmingham created these clans and their histories, but she did an amazing job explaining them, their histories, and how they are connected. I liked how all the characters end up being intertwined, either in present or past. The story focuses on Alexia and Devon, and their powers, pasts, and heritages. Alexia has red hair and red eyes, and pale skin. She has been called a demon and freak her whole life, and bounced around the foster system until her teen years. She has finally found a family, and is comfortable in her being, and then she meets Devon, and he unleashes a whole new list of fears and insecurities. Devon also grew up in the foster care system, and ran away years ago, after being in a bad home. He left his twin brother, Cam, behind, thinking it was the best decision. After a decade they reunite, and he learns that maybe his choices were not the best, but he must live with them. He comes to visit Cam, who is dating Alexia's best friend, and thus the relationship starts. However, this is not your traditional love story. Alexia and Devon are not 100% human, and come from different heritages, but discover they have more in common than just their best friend and twin brother dating. Alexia is pulled into a fantasy world of good vs evil, but the lines are not crisp. Turns out all the stories are true, and witches, vampires, werewolves and dragons really do exist, and are a little too close for comfort for some. I recommend anyone who enjoys this genre to read this story. If you struggle in the beginning, tough it out. It is worth it, I promise!
It seems I have been waiting for ages for a really good paranormal romance to be released. The Devil’s Pride has put an end to that wait. This is book 1 in the WIld Beast Series by T. Birmingham. This is the first time I have read this author’s work. Alexia has always felt like an outsider. Different from everyone else. She just wants to feel like she belongs. Her best friend, Mindy is always at the ready to reassure her that she is beautiful and loved. When she meets Devon, she feels as if she knows him. The heavy scent of attraction and arousal is dominant. But although that attraction is there, she senses that Devon detests her, for some reason. She has so many questions that need answers, but none seem to be forthcoming. She is fast learning that all is not as it seems, and life as she knows it, is about to change dramatically. Devon feels that instant connection to Alexia, but tries with everything he has to convey to Alexia that he loathes her. He is not certain that getting involved with Alexia is a good idea, so he will stand back and observe, while trying to work out what makes her tick. There is more than meets the eye with this book at each turn of the pages. The excitement is high, the drama is high, the suspense is high, and the anticipation level climbs steadily, building with the sweetest intensity. The closer I got to the end, the more secrets were revealed. And they were epic. The author spins this story in such a way, that it keeps the reader avidly glued to the pages, trying to work out what drama will unfold next. The craving to solve this mystery is almost unbearable. The discoveries both Alexia and Devon reveal are sensational. While there are some really creative moments set by the author, there is also a little tragedy and heartache thrown into the mix. Overall, The Devil’s Pride has been the best paranormal story I have read in a long time. There have been great ones, but this one was the best. The way the story was unveiled had me hanging on every word, and a bit sad that it had to end. A lovely bit of intrigue and romance that will be enjoyed by many. I recommend this book as a great escape from reality.
