Jared Walker is a single dad who knows what it’s like to be burned by a woman. His ex-wife tormented him in a way that’s unforgivable. It makes sense that Jared doesn’t trust women. He’s not looking for love, but when his cousin Travis puts Jared in charge of the Walker family reunion, Jared just might find himself in over his head. In more ways than one.
Hope Lambert has one goal in life. To keep Dead Heat Ranch prospering. From sun up to sun down, she has a single-minded focus working alongside her four sisters, the job isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely worth it. Hope is convinced she needs nothing more than what’s right in front of her. Until he walks into the stable.
It’s easy to think you know what’s best for you. That is until your heart is put to the test. What happens when the cautious cowgirl and the sexy single dad come face to face? The chemistry threatens to scorch them both. Giving in is easy.
Not falling in love is the hard part.
This novel is a Coyote Ridge/Dead Heat Ranch crossover. It can be read as a standalone.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicole Edwards spends her days stringing words together to make complete sentences. Sometimes not. Her best friend is coffee, and she has a love/hate relationship with sarcasm. She’s been accused of having a filthy imagination, which she admits is true.
Nicole lives in the suburbs of Austin, Texas. She proudly claims one husband, three grown children, and two bosses (better known as the dogs). When she isn’t writing, watching football or hockey, or keeping her bosses happy, you can probably find her with a book in hand.
I am a huge Nicole Edwards fan and I was very happy that aother "Walker" cowboy was getting his own book.
Jared Walker was first introduced in the "Alluring Indulgence" serie as a cousin of the Walker brothers. I liked him then and I was very curious about his story.
Hope was introduced in "Dead Heat Ranch" series and is one of Grace's sisters. I never really cared for Hope in those books. She seemed a little stiff to me in "Betting on Grace". She still isn't one of my favorite characters. I like my heroines a bit more feisty and I found her a bit boring.
These two meet, when Jared is tasked with organising a family reunion for the Walker family, which has to take place at the "Dead Heat Ranch".
They are both immediately attracted to each other, but they don't act on it...at least ot right away. Jared isn't looking for a relationship. The last relationship he was in, was with his bat shit crazy ex-wife. She gave birth to their son, but she also slept with a shit-ton of other men. When Jared finally left her, she told him that their son wasn't really his. This ofcourse broke his heart, because he loves his son so freaking much. As far as he was concerned, Derrick was his, in every single way. In the end she sold him her son for 25.000 dollars and signed away her parental rights. Like I said....bat shit crazy
!!! Jared is understandably wary of woman and relationships and the ony thing that matters to him is Derrick, who always comes first.
Hope has been in a couple relationships with single fathers. She has a habit of falling in love with their children. When the relationship ends, she is the one left behind with a broken heart and a hole in her soul. She vowed never to be in a relationship with a man, when there are children involved.
Since the chemistry between these two is off the charts, they come to an agreement. Sex only, no feelings, not relationship. After the reunion they will walk away from each other. Ofcourse feelings always happen.... You can't just turn them off whenever you want to.
I found Hope's reasoning a bit over the top. She didn't even want to hear about little Derrick, because even hearing about him, would make her love the little boy. Her thoughts were starting to annoy me. All she was thinking was..."don't fall for him because he is a single father"...."remember he has a son and you can't get attached to his kid". Bit presumtuous if you ask me. In some ways I understood, in others, not so much. To me she was a bit OTT in the "mommy" department.
What I did enjoy though, was the steamy hot sex and Jared's dirty mouth. Damn but I love these "Walker" dudes ;)
All in all another great addition and I can't wait to read more. Hopefully there will be plenty. I would also love another m-m book like "Ethan". His book and "Travis" are still my favorite !
3,5 Stars from me rounded up, because I loved seeing all these "Walker" men again, especially Travis.
3.5 stars for this read - guess I may be in the minority ... I love Nicole and the Walkers boys are one of my all time favorites but the chemistry in this one lacked the usual feisty heat. Hope was a likable character who had mapped out her life of working in the ranch and living the single hermit life, until she met Jared, the hot Walker cousin who set his sights on her. Yes there were other issues happening in the background but it just didn't grab me. Hope others love this more, maybe it was just me !
Sigh… there is just something about those Walker men. And mix them up with those Lambert women… heat ensues!
From the little we have learned of Jared from earlier books, I just knew that he was going to steal my heart -right along with some other lucky lady.
I love how well he fits in with the Walkers. How they have welcomed him and his little boy into the family fold (well, he is a cousin but they treat him like a brother/son).
Hope has kind of lost that... hope. She is set against falling in love again, and puts her heart and and soul into running the ranch.
But you could feel the heat between Jared and Hope from their first conversation, through their first meeting, to their first kiss.
Sigh... I just adore the pair of them.
But the scene stealer in this book is definitely Jared's son Derrick. I just wanted hug him and squeeze him and call him George!
Ms Edwards has a way of drawing the reader right into her character's world. No matter how long it has been since you have read one of her stories, each one is like a big warm hug from your favourite person in the world.
Jared is full of passion, lust, sex and betrayal. I read this in one day, as I had to know what was coming next.
This was a fun cross over novel, and I hope Ms Edwards does more in the future.
This was book 2 in the "Coyote Ridge" series. Jared Walker is a Walker cousin he is Curtis's nephew his father Gerald moved to El Paso when he got out of the army and married and had 6 kids. Jared moved to Coyote Ridge after his divorce and after paying off his ex to get custody of his son Derrick who his ex told him wasn't his. When Travis puts him in charge of the Walker family reunion that is being held at the Dead Heat dude ranch he meets Hope Lambert. Hope is the oldest of the lambert girls she is also Cheyenne Montgomery's cousin. This was a really good read Ms. Edwards books are a comfort read to me. Hope and Jared have some off the charts chemistry they have both been hurt in the past and want to keep things casual and Jared knows that he has to put his son first. Hope doesn't want to get close to Derrick she has had a few relationships with men who have had kids only to be hurt and getting over nor only the break up with the man but with the kid also. Each of the Lambert girls have issues with there mother dying when they were young. When Jared's ex Sable showing up wanting money threating to take Derrick away leave it up to Travis to handle it with some help from his friends. I liked how the Walker family stepped up to protect Derrick from Sable and the kid said the cutest things. This book had some hot sex scenes in it like all of Ms. Edwards books this one was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
It's like coming home... Nicole Edwards is one of my TOP three favorite authors of all time. Her words are so brilliant... captivating storylines... intricate plots. Her stories make my heart race and my breathing increase. The steam... passion... intensity... Edwards is back at it again.
We all have that series that touches our souls and forever marks us. THIS is that series for me. The Walkers hold a special place in my heart. They were one of my very first reads of all time. It was what made me fall in love and find a true book boyfriend for the first time. So when a crossover between series was mentioned, I was so excited. JARED IS HERE!
Sometimes gives us exactly what we need when we least expect it. Sometimes life gives us forever when we were content with right now. Nicole Edwards gave us JARED. This book was the perfect romance with tons of love, twists, feels, and second chances. Jared is going to snag your heart with his perfect alpha ways and Hope is going to make you root for her hard.
As usual, I fell hard and fast with these two. The pacing was perfect and the story was captivating. These two sucked me in from page one and I did not want to put down their story until they devoured ME. I laughed, smiled, swooned, got angry, shed a tear, and fell madly, deeply, head over heels in love. Each moment... each decision... everything was worth it for their happy ending.
I have been waiting for Jared to have his own book for what seems like forever! It was well worth the wait! This love story is exactly that, a love story! After all the shit that Jared has gone through in his life he deserves nothing but a family that stands beside him and a good woman at his side. Hope has never had it easy in the love department. When she meets Jared Walker her life changes forever. This book is full of all the Walker family, their lives, their alpha ways and their need to protect what's theirs. It is an excellent read as usual and I can't wait to see who's next!!
I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and I could not put the book down. The story has everything you need in a book. You get laughs, suspense, naughty fun, pain, sorrow, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first Kaleb (Alluring Indulgence, #1) Zane (Alluring Indulgence, #2) Travis (Alluring Indulgence, #3) Holidays with the Walker Brothers (Alluring Indulgence, #4) Ethan (Alluring Indulgence, #5) Braydon (Alluring Indulgence, #6) Sawyer (Alluring Indulgence, #7) Brendon (Alluring Indulgence, #8) Curtis (Coyote Ridge #1)
This is Hope and Jared’s story. Jared does not trust woman and for good reason after what his ex-wife put him through. Hope is all work. She works all hours of the day. Both are convinced they only need what they have in their life right now. Until they meet. Then all bets are off. Can they handle the passion without falling for each other or are they fooling themselves? Sometimes it’s so easy to fall but harder to keep from letting the other know you fell. Will falling for each other ruin everything? With each new story Nicole pulls you into her world of alpha males and strong women.
I loved these characters and also the side characters. There are some tear filled moments and some anger filled moments in this story. But all in all I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and this author. Can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Every time I pick up a Nicole Edwards book I get lost. And throw in the Walker men and I devour the book in no time at all.
Jared and his son have moved to Coyote Ridge to start a new life. The most important thing is keeping Jared's son safe from his mother, who only wants something to do with him when its convenient for her. He enjoys being around family and working with them, but between work and family, he really doesn't have time for anything or anyone else in his life.
Somehow Jared was stuck with planning the Walker Family reunion. So he finds himself at Dead Heat Ranch to look at their facilities and finds Hope Lambert there. She catches his eye and he just knows that he has to have her. But Hope isn't the type of girl for a one night stand... but maybe a little fling wouldn't hurt. She's too busy taking care of the Ranch and still nursing a broken heart to think of anything serious. And Jared Walker is just the kind of guy who could end up breaking her heart.
You always get a great story full of passion and heat from Nicole.
Thank you Nicole, her Coyote Ridge & Alluring Indulgence series are my absolute favourites. The chemistry between Jared and Hope was so hot, it burned the pages as I was reading, seriously sexy reading.
One small issue I found was that the story just seemed rushed at the end of the book and I would like to have read a lot more about them, once they had decided to become a unit. Even with that feeling, I loved these two characters so much, I couldn't take away anything from the 5 stars I gave it.
I would love to see a lot more in future books about Jared and Hope, or maybe even another one of their own like Ethan and Beau got!!
2.5 stars - this book was okay. It didn’t live up to the Walker brothers’ books for me. Everything was too much like every other MF book out there. “I want him but I promised myself I wouldn’t make that mistake again” type mentalities drive me NUTS! And this book had that in spades. Same with the whole, “It’s just sex because I’m not looking for a relationship.” It’s been done so much and it’s annoying and boring. There was too much spent in each character’s head and not enough dialogue. I found myself skimming through the repetitive thoughts. I regret that I spent money on this book.
I would rate this at 4 1/2 ✨. The ending was a great wrap up of all the different parts of the story. There was more I wanted out of this book but overall it was great. 💜💜
Jared is a crossover novel incorporating the Alluring Indulgence series and the Dead Heat Ranch series and I loved it!. I really enjoyed catching up with previous characters from both these theses and it was fun to read about new characters as well. The storyline was fun! The idea of this family reunion because It certainly would need to be a big production to get all the Walkers together!
I enjoyed the characters. Derrick was so cute!!! He was such an important part to the story. Jared was so sweet but so alpha at the same time! Couldn't ask for a better book boyfriend! I admired Hope. She was a strong female character, who suffered a few broken hearts in the past but was able to take a chance with Jared, and it paid off!
The story had some drama and angst, along with several hot and heavy scenes. I could have used a little more drama surrounding Jared and his ex-wife. There was a lot there, but I wanted more. But overall, I really enjoyed the story! I thought it was well written and flowed nicely. The point of view switches characters several times, but I didn't have a hard time following. You don't need to read other two series, this can be read as a standalone. But I do recommend reading the other, just because they are fantastic!
Review Officially the second book in both the Coyote Ridge and Dead Heat Ranch series, Jared is a crossover novel bringing the sexy Walker brothers and the feisty Lambert sisters together. I am a massive fan of the Walker brothers (who isn’t?) but I had not read any of the Lambert sister’s stories so they were a new set of characters for me to get to know.
Jared is the cousin of the Walker brothers and is now firmly working for them after making a home for him and his young son, Derrick on their property. Jared has not had the best experience with women, in fact his ex-wife was of the crazy type, leaving him hesitant to get involved again with another woman. But then his cousin Travis sets him up with the challenge to arrange the next Walker family reunion which is to take place on the Dead Heat Ranch, bringing him in contact with Hope.
Hope has her own demons too where it comes to relationships and after a sad break up with a single Dad, she vows to not get involved with one again after the pain of not only separating from the Dad but also his young child. Hope is the stalwart of the family and puts everyone else before herself. Her determination to remain steadfast and resolute in her plans has a way of failing once she comes into contact with sexy Jared Walker.
I liked how at first these two were hesitant to take a leap with a relationship but then when they agreed not to put a label on what they had, they took each moment together as a chance to work out that sexual attraction they had going on. But then life has a way of throwing a spanner in the works and once feelings start coming into the mix, well a lot of soul searching and angst needs to be done. Throw into that a scheming ex, heartbreak from the past and a worry for the future and we had the makings of a sexy, turbulent but oh so wonderful read.
It was great to catch up with all the Walker brothers and their significant others. The banter and love between this family is just so warming to read. The location these books takes you to is also a winner and I always feel I am right there in the thick of it with this crazy but lovable lot!
This can easily be read as a standalone but if you have not had the pleasure of reading the Walker Brothers series (say what?!!) then I definitely recommend you do. I adore them! Five stars.

Jared by Nicole Edwards is the second book in the Coyote Ridge Series but also crosses over into the Dead Heat Ranch series. I haven't met a Nicole Edwards book or character that I didn't love. A story that I didn't get sucked into immediately. A hero who didn't make my heart swoon. A heroine I couldn't relate to. Her writing is getting better and better and the stories becoming more intriguing. Jared is a Walker. I almost don't need to say more, but I will :). He's a Walker cousin who we've known for a while. He's quite and broody, but he believes in family and loyalty like all the other Walkers. He's a single father who's battled with his ex-wife and is now reluctant to trust women. Travis puts Jared in charge of the Walker family reunion. Travis wants to have it at Dead Heat Ranch and as soon as Jared speaks to Hope, there's something about her voice that calls to him. He wants to see the woman behind the voice. Hope, the eldest of the Lambert siblings, has been helping run the ranch since she was a teenager. She has two failed relationships both single fathers, who broke her heart and she's not willing to put herself through that again. Until she meets Jared. He stirs something in her she thought was untouchable. With his sexy voice, his expressive eyes and his tight jeans. Hope can't seem to say no to Jared so she agrees to a no strings attached affair until the reunion. They have to work together to plan it so that should be enough time to get him out of her system. Right? Jared can't get enough of Hope. He wants more than he ever though he would again. He trusts her, craves her, thinks about her all the time. He knows he has to tread carefully with her because she's scared. Will Jared prove to hope he's worth the risk? Can Hope move beyond her past to see that things with Jared are different? I loved this story! Jared is everything I knew he would be! Hope is strong, independent and funny. The Walkers are one of my favorite literary families and I was cheering when we met more of the family. I can't wait to see who's next!
"You know we can't have sex, right?" "Oh, I beg to differ. It's quite possible." "I don't even know you." "But you will." "But I won't have sex with you until I do.""No one asked you to."
God had been in a damn good mood the day He made Jared. Damn good mood.
The elder Walkers and Lamberts sure know how to raise strong-willed, passionate, and hot as hell children, so when Nicole Edwards fuses these two families together in a crossover of epic proportions, readers should be prepared to revel in a whole lot of snark, steam, and shenanigans like only the Walkers/Lamberts can bring.
Jared Walker is all cowboy, which might not put him at the top of Hope Lambert’s to-do list, but she quickly adds him when she’s drawn to him as soon as they meet, and he offers her a chance at no strings sex - an idea that has her “undersexed body” all hot and bothered in the most delicious ways.
Jared and Hope might have differing priorities - his being his son and hers being her family’s ranch, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t find some time for themselves in order to see where their “overwhelming magnetism” takes them, and if it leads to more, which Jared is definitely not opposed to, perhaps they’ll find some balance in their lives and realize that one selfish woman and one or two insensitive men do not equate to all women or all men leaving them destroyed and heartbroken.
Nicole Edwards consistently creates stories that are well written and full of heart. and Jared is no exception. Jared and Hope’s story has all of the components that I’ve come to expect and adore from Nicole Edwards:
A member of the Walker family who knows what it means to protect his own.
A Walker hero who is the perfect mix of dirty and sweet, both in and out of the bedroom.
An electric connection between the hero and the heroine who can’t help but give into what their bodies want because the temptation and need is too great.
A feisty heroine who works her ass off for her family and carries the weight of that burden in order to prevent herself from getting attached to anyone besides her sisters and father.
Meddling relatives who can’t help but force the hero and heroine to see what’s missing in their lives and why it’s important to want more out of life than their family and their work.
And…one fantastic supporting cast of characters who are a testament to everything their families are and how having love in their lives have changed them in the best possible ways.

4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
Just when I thought those Walker Boys couldn't get any better Nicole Edwards gives us Jared ! Jared has been asked or should I say told by Travis to organise a Walker Family Reunion lucky for him Travis suggests giving Hope Lambert a call at the Dead Heat Ranch where the event is going to be. Hope is not interested in relationships especially with a single dad and Jared has been sworn of women ever since his ex wife cheated on him. What happens when a strong sassy independent woman falls for a smooth talking alpha male, well in true Nicole Edwards style you get sparks, chemistry and lots of hot sex but this is more than just sex this is two people learning to trust again and putting the betrayal from the past behind them. This is Jared and Hope's chance at a new beginning, a chance at happiness helped along by Travis and the rest of the Walker clan. This book has it all passion, romance, betrayal but most of all love and I have to say I think I have fallen for yet another Walker man. It was great catching up with the rest of the family finding out where they had gone with their relationships, no one writes a crossover book quite like Nicole Edwards does. Loved it and can't wait for more from Dead Heat Ranch
I loved this book. There was no putting it down once I picked it up. The characters are amazing and you cannot help but fall in love with them, the story will grab you and not let you go. This book must be read, you will not be sorry that you did. Once you read this, you will want to read all the others by this amazing author.
4.5 Stars! Jared and Hope's tender story is about a single dad finding love. Really just incredibly sweet. And of course we have the Walkers in there so I got all of my favorite men. I hadn't met the Dead Heat Ranch people yet so I'm excited to read about them soon! Full review coming on The Smut-Brarians.
I was thrilled to see the continuation of both Coyote Ridge and Dead Heat Ranch. What a great idea to merge these two worlds. I have enjoy both series and was drawn in from the word go. Jared will not leave you disappointed. You can't go wrong with sexy cowboys. Especially sexy cowboys written by Nicole Edwards.
4.5 stars!!! Two souls finding each other.... Jared has a biatch of an ex and soul custody of his son.... Hope is an sweet girl that's been screwed by life!!! Walker boys all round mmmmmm... great story!!!
This was okay. Got better as the book went along, but it's a bit repetitive of previous books that are also tied to this series. You always know what to expect, and what you're going to get.
Jared by Nicole Edwards. 4 out of 5 stars. The second book in the Coyote Ridge Series centers around Jared Walker and Hope Lambert, and acts as a crossover book for Nicole's new series The Dead Heat Ranch which details the other Lambert sisters on their journey to romance. What I particularly liked about this book was the way it showed both the Walkers and the Lamberts off as a family. Sisters are well-known for arguing and bitching at each other- it's what they do - but they're always there when you need them. Brothers, on the other hand, have always got your back no matter what. This displayed all the talents and traits of both families as a whole unit and showed them at their fighting best when one of their own is threatened. I recommend this book to others interested in the Walker family saga, Nicole Edwards writing in general, and the Alluring Indulgence and Coyote Ridge series. I won't recommend the Dead Heat Ranch series here as I haven't read it myself yet, but will say to keep it in mind, though, I'll be checking it out soon.
No cliffhanger Standalone though part of a larger family series Told from both POVs No major editing issues
At this point after reading 20+ books from this author these books should really become predictable and boring...but they don't. This author has a way of telling a new story every single time she writes a book. I often find myself not being able to put her books down either. They are all full of passion, laughter, love and just the perfect amount of drama.
Jared was a character we have seen glimpses of a lot in the previous books but he was always the mysterious single dad. I have been waiting for his book for a very long time, and man oh man was it worth the wait. I loved that the author crossed over 2 of her series to bring these two together.
Hope is the oldest daughter of a widow. When her mom died she had to grow up quickly. She felt it was her job to help keep her family ranch alive and take care of her sisters...the problem with that is that you forget to take care of yourself.
When these two meet the sparks fly immediately. The passion between them is undeniable and holy hotness batman. The sheets are on fire when these two finally get together.
But like with all books drama starts to unfold around them and the question becomes, with their relationship so new, will they be able to get passed all the luggage Jared is carrying around when it comes to his son and ex-wife.
I won't be spoiling anything in this review but I will tell you this is a book that is worth every penny. Can't wait for the next one in the series.
Everyone loves to read about the Walker men, here too, you will not be disappointed. As always, no spoiling. Love the Walkers, you will love this. Jared, is a crossover to Coyotte Ridge, where introductions are made to Cheyenne’s cousins who own a dude ranch. Meet the Lambert girls, but here we concentrate on Hope. As always, stimulating read and yes, hot hot hot interactions.
A note to self and others. Do read Dead Heat Ranch beforehand to understand the Lambert girls. I’m personally reading them now to familiarise with the characters and their background. A shame I Jumped ahead and saw the future to some.
A final note, Love, it has many meanings - trust, friendship, endearments etc. what it isn’t is a ‘dollar sign’ on life. Once read ‘Jared’, this will become clearer.
As always, Nicole never leaves you not wanting more. Yes, more of AI, Dead Heat, Club Destiny, the series go on. Love the crossovers as you are always in the know with the characters.
*5 stars* Another amazing read!! You can definitely say I am a fan from this author 'cuz she's really one of my favourites and you can't go wrong with any book you read from her!
In this cross-over story, we meet Jared Walker. He recently divorced his crazy ex and after a turmoilt relationship, he moves to Coyote Ridge with his son. Being a single parent isn't easy but he tries to make it work. The eldest Walker, Travis, gets Jared to be in charge of the Walker reunion and he meets Hope. Hope hasn't really had an easy life and works very hard at the Dead Heat Ranch, alongside her sisters. When Jared and Hope meet, they feel an instant connection. An attraction that neither expected to feel. Although it starts as something very casual, they can't help but feel more... Will they put their hearts at risk or will their stubbornness keep them apart... Sometimes you just can't help who you fall for, even when you aren't looking, love can catch you by surprise...
